Here's the latest information about the possibility of a Nelsonica US.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To keep you all up to date with what's happening regarding the
possibility of an American Nelsonica, here's the latest from the
American planning team...
Dear Worldwide Nelsonians:
As many of you will know, several months ago a group of us in the U.S.
started talking about putting together a Nelsonica convention in the
States. (Not the first time, of course!) There was much discussion,
and we eventually launched an online survey in an attempt to determine
how much of Bill's New World fan base would attend if we managed to
put such an event together.
The results of the survey were very encouraging, with a strong
percentage of the more than 300 people who responded saying they would
be very interested in attending. We even had a good response from our
Nelsonian brethren in the UK, many of whom expressed interest in
coming across the pond to celebrate with us.
Since the survey was launched, however, Busy Bill has determined that
his schedule for this year will not allow him to make a trip to the
U.S., thereby removing 2006 from consideration.
After reviewing the data gathered through the survey, and after much
discussion amongst ourselves and with Bill, we are now planning to
make a go at holding a Nelsonica fan convention in Boston in the Fall
of 2007.
We believe that this will give us enough time to generate more
support, hopefully enough to underwrite Bill making the trip over and
cover the event costs. No promises and no commitments, of course.
Simply put, if we cannot sell enough tickets in advance the event will
not be possible. But we're up for the challenge and living for the
spangled moment!
Right now we simply ask for your patience. More information will be
forthcoming down the road. We have lots of time and intend to get our
act together before we announce further details. Keep your eyes on
this forum for more!
(If you took the survey and provided your email address you will
likely also get direct messages from time to time, with any news.)
In the meantime, we understand that Bill and his UK team have great
plans for this year's UK Nelsonica '06, to be held October 14 in the
lovely city of York. We strongly encourage New World Nelsonians to do
their best to attend, as it promises to be something special.
Stay young, and stay tuned!
Peter, Martin and Phil
Greetings to one and all from Tranquility Base! Did you think i'd
forgotten you?
Bird here, back at the old typewriter banging away on the keys. So,
how've you been? Heard any good jokes lately?
Now that i've broken the ice i guess i could give you the reason for
this re-intrusion into your life! There IS a purpose to all this you
know.
Bill made mention on the Dreamsville Chat Site
(http://www.billnelsonmusic.com/html/park/inn.php) that he would be
interested in attending a US version of Nelsonica. i won't go into
more details than that, that is what this Electrical Language is all
about. i've been working with a few folk who are passionate in their
desire to get Bill over here for such a purpose and i support them
wholeheartedly. i'm taking a few minutes from your busy day to ask
you to give them a listen to.
The following words are from Peter Coloumbe, who is heading up this
effort. Take it away Pete:
********************************************************************
"If you build a convention...I will come!"
********************************************************************
With these words, Bill Nelson has offered a good-natured challenge to
Nelsonians in the New World to put together their own Nelsonica fan
convention. It would be a rare opportunity to gather with other fans,
meet Bill personally, hear him play, get a special limited-edition
convention CD and much more.
To make it happen will require a lot of hard work. The first step is
to determine how much genuine interest there is in having such an
event somewhere in the U.S. If there is not enough interest, it simply
will not happen.
How can you let us know if you would be interested in attending? By
completing our quick, confidential online Nelsonica North American
Planning Questionnaire! Please complete the survey even if you voted
in the poll posted on the Dreamsville forums in November.
Here's the link:
http://www.vmrsite.com/nelson_survey/
If we can get enough interest to encourage us to move ahead, you may
one day be able to sit down with other Nelsonians and listen to the
latest creations of Bill Nelson, live and in person.
What could be better than that?
Please complete the questionnaire today!*
Thanks – and stay young!
Peter, Phil, Scott and Martin
*Just one per Nelsonian, please; no ballot box stuffing allowed!
**************************************************************************
So there you have it. Pete's words, a link to the survey site, and a
description of what is going on. This will be a BIG thing so please
give it the proper attitude in your life.
Always here to be thought of, even when i don't think.
i could apologize for the delay in getting this entry up on the site
because i was on vacation, but who really cares? ;-)
Bill has sent along a new diary entry, and it looks like Rosewood is
just about here! He provides us with the track listing for Volume
Two, along with more information about Dreamsville and how it will be
laid out. i can silence some of you who've asked by saying, "Yes,
Bill is looking to have a discussion/chat group section where you, the
loyal fan, can contribute to."
Also, i know i shouldn't have bothered with this because Dreamsville
is coming, but i've made some changes to the diary pages (current and
history) and would appreciate any emails that report broken or bugged
Dreamsville, and Rosewood, are coming! Bill has a new diary entry in
which he discusses these upcoming events. He has seen mockups of
Dreamsville and is very happy with it. In addition, he has pared down
the track listing for Rosewood from 29 entries. And there are plans
to possibly use the other songs for another project. Finally, i hope
you're enjoying the images for Rosewood that have been included with
the latest diary entries. Bill has sent along another one for this
entry, and its just downright beautiful! Am looking forward to this
album.
News, news, and more news today! First up is a good diary entry from
Bill in which he spills the beans on some of the general layout and
functions of Dreamsville. And he stresses that Dreamsville is just around
the corner.
Bill also relates to us that Alan Myers has shuttered the Rooms Witth
Brittle Views web site.
Bill Nelson is featured in issue #131 of Total Guitar Magazine.
There's a music note transcription of him playing Tuxedo Junction,
and this appears on the magazine's cover CD along with a
recording of Bill demonstrating a typical Blues Scale, plus an E-
Bow demonstration track.
And a quick check of issue #132 reveals that Sister Seagull
(remember, from Be Bop Deluxe?) is featured in the "Learn to
updates on the goings on out at Nelson Acres. One item to note
is that Bill has been asked to donate some artwork to an auction
Ocean disaster. We don't have all the information yet, but there
There is no diary entry for this edition, but we have some interesting
other news:
Sound-On-Sound Magazine, who recently took over the sale/distribution
of Bill's CD's reports that demand has overcome supply, and shipments
of ordered CD's might be running a bit late AS THEY PRINT MORE COPIES!
Yes, that's right. They are making at least a second run on many of
Bill's recent albums. Ian Gilby asks for a little patience while they
catch up. You can read his note on the News page.
Phil Graham asks that i annouce that 'Professional Secrets' is back on
course after a bit of a hiatus. There aren't many details to add, but
there is an image of the artwork in the News page:
The recentl Be Bop Deluxe compendium album recently released by EMI is
set for a February 8th release for the North American market! And
finally, the original 6 Be Bop Deluxe CD's will also be released in
the US via AstralWerks early next year! There are more details to add
Greetings and all that hazz.
It appears that there is some confusion about the links at the Flame
to the new Bill Nelson Store at Sound-On-Sound. To help clear things
i'm including additional instructions on getting to order the albums.
When you click on the link on the News page you should be directed to
a NEW WINDOW that opens to the Sound-On-Sound music store. (The link to the
Sound-on-Sound music store is: http://www.soundonsound.com/shop)
First thing you should do is click on the link to SELECT YOUR COUNTRY.
Then click on the link to BILL NELSON MUSIC.
This will open a page with a list of the albums and other merchandise
currently available for sale, twelve items in all. The list includes posters,
t-shirts, tour programmes, and a bunch of albums.
If that doesn't work, quit your browser and play some Klondike
Solitaire, 'cause i don't know what's going on with your PC.
Hoping that helps.
diary entries! They've all been uploaded and are now ready for your
Wait, there's more!!
Bill will be at the Populus Festival at Leeds University later this
month, the 27th and 28th, and will be speaking on the 27th. And a
special word from Bill himself is that he will be performing a 30
minute solo guitar set! Sweet, i wonder if he'll play the
incomparable 'For Stuart'? You'll just have to go and hear for
yourself. There are links to the Populus Festival in the Live!
section.
Wait, there's even more than that!!!
'Wah Wah Galaxy', this year's Nelsonica-only CD will be offered for
sale at the show! As will 'Romance of Sustain', and possibly more
than that. In addition, copies of his book, 'Diary of a Hyperdreamer'
will be available for sale as well. (It's a good book, because i'm
listed in the Index in the back! "The new phone book is here, the new
