It's a pity it didn't get the airplay it deserved. In NYC they played
Trucker's Cafe for about a week on one of the local stations, I
forget which one.

Hi Stan,

I'm going to see whether Megaupload works for me. I may wait till tommorrow to upload that album. It ws one of the first I digitalized many years ago and I hear some things I don't like. I may be able to clean it better. The original album, unfortunately is with my ex-spouse.

Yep, highway 40 is right.
I love it here in the Fall, and Spring. All the colors. It is really beautiful.
Going to the in-laws house for a cookout later. Should be nice, 64 is the high for today, then the snow kicks back in for tomorrow.

quickly. "M" records was, if I recall correctly, a very small Nashville
label. I had an uncle who used to get me cut-outs by the bhox, and this was
in one of them. <

M Records was from Fort Wayne, IN; discography and related links can be
found here: http://www.45rpmrecords.com/IN/M%20Records.php. Webb Foley may
have been the owner. This website is an outstanding resource for Midwest
labels and related references. "Marlene" is M 668, from 1966, and was backed
by The Jordanaires.

I have heard a lot about, but have never heard, Webb Foley; the appearance
of one or more selections of his in the music files (NOT on SendSpace or one
of those) would be gratefully appreciated.

Curtis Lee's "Pledge of Love" in the music files is very interesting, as
I've always loved the original by Ken Copeland on Imperial from c. 1958. Was
this an A-side for Lee? Two interesting asides (no pun intended): (1)
Copeland became a very conservative broadcast minister who enjoyed a fairly
high profile in subsequent decades. (2) His was one of the few 45s I know of
with a (very) different artist and style on the flip side: "Night Air" by
The Mints was, as I remember, an uptempo R&B number, and Copeland was
definitely a White Guy with a choral backing (hints of Jimmie Rodgers'
"Wonderful You" - in fact, Rodgers could have done a bang-up job with this
song, too).

A request, please: I have a scratchy dub of a 45 by Daniel Stone, "Stay in
My Heart" (Smash 1757, 1962, produced by Lee Hazlewood), which is in
sonically rough condition. Either the grooves are so worn that the vocal is
distorted from that, or Hazlewood wasn't doing a great job at the controls.
I'll assume the former, since the intro was also cut, possibly to avoid cue
burn. Using Audacity (my vinyl-to-digital free software), I
"re-manufactured" a version of the record, creating a new intro and
extending the fade to where I think it once ran, which I've played to the
music files at
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/billybearmoldieoldies/files. If anyone
has an mp3 copy from a better dub, I'd love to hear it; the record has
become a new favorite since I discovered it a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks, all!

Hi Paul,

The clarification is appreciated. I had the record 40 years ago, and its label looked very early sixties. As did Foley's style.

Curtis Lee recorded "Pledge of Love" as the A side of his second single for Dunes. "Pretty Little Angel Eyes" was the third.

If you send me an mp3 of your copy of Stay In My Heart I could see whether the music can be extracted from the scratches. Unless someone has a listenable copy.

this an A-side for Lee?

Country Paul

I have the record, but the only file I got was my 45 via cassette. Is
that what you used as a base for your remix? I need to go listen to
this now.

I dug up my '45 via cassette' copy and uploaded it with the WREX
jingles. When I uploaded this a few months back, I cut them out. I
may have cut too much out, as I had over 20 files to do, and did them
very quickly. Maybe you can do something with this file.

Sadly, my turntable has decided to play dead and I haven't replaced
it yet. That was and why, I switched to my old tapes which have
provided the aircheck snipits and commercials that I've been
uploading.

That is a clearer copy than what I downloaded, but I wondered why all

Once again, most likely my copy with the jingles removed. I know that
some of my records are unique to the internet a/k/a "Duck Walk" (LOL)

I found a stock copy (mine is promo) on eBay but it has some label
wear, so most likely not much better than my promo.

BTW, the seller on eBay listed "Catch Me" as the A side. My copy is
promo and has little **'s next to the title, so there's no doubt what
was meant to be the A side.

I heard the "Blue Moon" quote the first time I heard the record, and
wondered "What that doing there?"

The thing that sticks with me is a somewhat unique circumstance (a few
dozen folks in upstate New York will share this "condition" with me):
the famous riff was used as a fight cheer for a suburban Utica high
school. Sing along, now: "Stronger than you / New York Mills
Marauders!" I'll never hear this record in the same way again!

"Sunshine Of Your Love" was ruined for me when it was out, as somebody
(not me) was singing along with it and was singing 'ah poopyholes' on
the beat.

Its getting near dawn,
(ah poopyholes)
When lights close their tired eyes.
(ah poopyholes)
Ill soon be with you my love,
(ah poopyholes)
To give you my dose of prize.
(ah poopyholes)
etc, etc, etc.

Since I've been hearing this in my head all these years, I never had a
chance to hear "Blue Moon" until recently (LOL)

Billy,

Great Dan Ingram aircheck - especially for how great he isn't in
light of the incredible talent he became. (Of course, I wouldn't want
anyone listening to my earliest radio airchedcks either - I wouldn't
have hired me!) WNHC certainly was densely produced; it sounds today
like a parody, but that was state-of-the-art at the time. In fact,
from the late '50s through the early '70s, New Haven and Hartford
radio was almost the equivalent of thebest of NYC top 40 - and often
shared the same jocks. (Ingram and Ed Baer come to mind). WAVZ, New
Haven, even had the WABC PAMSW jingle package, and with the closeness
in sound of their call latters it certainly made for a parallel
listening experience.

Re: Daniel Stone, thank you for the post. I think the version that
crept into mny mp3 files was from this file, as the jingles from the
radio station end and begin at just the points the music starts and
cuts off on my original file. Since you have the 45 (thank you for
the label scan), is there any chance, please, of getting a clean rip
from your copy minus the radio station's production and the lo-fi AM
sound? Many thanks in advance if it's possible!

Dan's timing wasn't perfect yet. It's also fascinating that he sounds
so much more mature (for lack of a better term) on WABC.

My turntable is dead. Maybe you missed the post where I explained
this. If and when I ever get another, I will redo this record. I'm
also curious about the B side now (Catch Me), as an eBay seller
listed this as the A side.
