I think you're right Bill. I very much doubt that the publishers
have any agreement with the owner of the blog in question; looks like
a blatant act of piracy to me.

There seems to be something not quite right with some of the "free"
ebooks on this blog. For example the Ramon Ricker book (quite old now,
but useful as I recall) is still for sale from the publishers for $16.95.
http://www.alfred.com/alfredweb/front/ProductDetail.aspx?itemnum=%20%20%20%20%20\

So have Alfred publishing or Ramon Ricker made some special agreement
to give away the book free on the blog or is it simply piracy of
Ricker's work?

I thought 'Grouply' might be a scam. Any site that asks you to input
your yahoo id and password might well be just trying to steal your
details and hijack your account. After reading the review on
TechCrunch: http://www.techcrunch.com/tag/grouply I'm reassured; it
seems to be a legitimate site.

There are so many social networking sites springing up someone would
have to offer a very good argument as to its benefits before I
considered joining.

In reality, and verified  by numerous sources, Pakistan  is a composition of two words "PAK" and "ISTAN". PAK  is a word of Persian and Urdu and it means "Holy/Pure/Clean" and "ISTAN" stands for "HOMELAND". Then the true meanings come to "Homeland of Holy People ".

If you'd like to put audio on a web page, myspace, blog etc. this is a
very
easy, stylish and free solution.

http://next.yahoo.net/archives/32/easylistener

This page has a code generating wizard which allows you to modify
colours etc. To make it work you only need to enter the url where you
have links to your audio files. Copy/paste the code and it works right
away. It also accepts rss feeds, podcasts etc.

I'm using it here:

Hi Geoff,

We've been using 'Audacity' to overdub the different parts; it's an
excellent free program. Allows multi track recording, effects, EQ,
reads and outputs MP3, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, AIFF files. Quite an amazing
package for the price ($0!).

There's a download link here:

http://www.liamalexander.com/downloads/entertainment.html

Backing tracks were done with Band in a
Box, which is equally impressive and useful, but is not free. If you
don't have BiaB, myself or another member can always generate a
backing based on a chord arrangement.

Blue Cosmosis is a collaborative jazz recording project. The idea is
to record a backing track, add some melody/improvisation then send the
file so others can add additional parts. The completed tracks will
then be uploaded to this location:

http://www.liamalexander.com/music/cosmosis.html

(There are a few completed tracks there already).

I've uploaded a few unfinished tracks to the files section of this
group here:

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/bluesette/files/Cosmosis/

If you're interested in joining this experiment, please let me know;
post to the group or reply to me directly. Singers are also welcome.
Pretty much anything goes, but it needs to be at least in the ball park
as far as jazz goes.

If you have a website, blog, myspace profile etc. you might want to
try including this free feature: Live News Feeder; includes hundreds
of news stories, music and jazz news, image, video and audio feeds.
Content updates frequently; provides very interesting content and
will attract a lot of traffic to your site.

To include it, just paste this html code between the <body> </body>

marginwidth="1" marginheight="1" height="800" width="100%" border="0"

Thanks, I joined the 'Global Jazz Network'.  Looks very interesting;
a new competitor to myspace? In fact, I think it looks a lot better

brilliant. The music player on the profiles is very nice, as is the

Speaking of George, I've been messing around with my website a bit
lately. This section:

http://www.liamalexander.com/news/video.php?zfcategory=video_music

takes video feeds and plays them via javascript and flash. That
page has instructional and performance videos by George Benson, Joe
Pass, Tal Farlow and many others.

There are other videos in different categories. You can download
them from the rss link (orange XML button).

Regards, Liam

I've uploaded a few backing tracks at this location:

http://www.liamalexander.com/music/jam_tracks

I've only added a few so far but I plan to add more. I've included a
transcription of Pat Martino's 'Three Base Hit' which I think is a very
interesting tune and quite challenging to improvise over.

All tracks can be played via streaming directly from the site or
downloaded as standard MP3s. There is also a chord chart for each
track in PDF format.

Hi Petri,

I guess I can call myself a pro as I have made a few $$$ designing
sites recently, although I'm primarily a teacher. Feel free to email
me direct if you have a question. If you're interested I can suggest
a way you can post unlimited songs/videos to myspace; you just need
to host the files on your webserver.  I'm using it on my myspace;
works well.

I had a listen to your guitar/organ track; sounds fantastic!
Beautiful melodic soloing and also a very nice organ player. How was
Greece? I can't really play while my 2 year old is awake; she wants
to particpate and strum as I do. I bought her her own little guitar,
but she seems to prefer mine. I live in hope that music is something
we'll really share. Lately I've been singing with her; she gets
really enthusiastic with that tune 'Fever'. With 2 guitarists for
parents I'm sure your boy will go far.

Here are some pics of my satin doll, Meg:

My wife's a classical guitar teacher so we have almost all the
guitars represented in our household. Just yesterday evening Elis
wanted to try out my Tele - he could actually press down the A string
and hold a C while I picked the string! (proud parent indeed!)

HI Liam,

I didn't realize the web page comment was from a pro - I'm really glad to hear that!
I actually do have a question for you but I'll get back to you on that when I have the time to spell it out for you.

Hi Petri,

You're right, it is a compilation of of Wes' earlier recordings with
Mel Rhyne before he turned commercial to survive. It's become hard
to get, but it's a favourite of mine, 2nd only to 'The Incredible
Jazz Guitar'. For a guitar/organ combo; it's hard to go past it.

Track list available here: (Amazon.com)

http://www.amazon.com/Wes-Montgomery-Melvin-Rhyne/dp/B00002Z7BK/ref=sr_1_2/105-2\
085900-6398837?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1194039141&sr=1-2

As a teacher of computing and web design, I can tell you your design
is great; simple and elegant. It's also great that you designed it
yourself. I really need to update my own and make it completely CSS
based; it works great in IE but looks horrible in Firefox, Safari
etc. Is that your kid on your front page? Very cute. I have a
daughter about the same age; tends to slow down my creative output
but no regrets, she's a total joy. If you need any web tips let me
know.

I'll look forward to hearing your guitar/organ stuff on myspace. There aren't
many organ players around here either; the best I've managed is getting keyboard
players to use an organ sound on their sythns.

If you do have time to do some transcribing, a friend asked for the
chord melody of Kenny Burrell's 'Gee Baby Aint I Good to You'.
(Midnight Blue Cd) I learned it years ago but never wrote it down and
as a busy high school teacher and proud parent, I'll doubt I'll get a
chance any time soon.

Regards, Liam

writing the code myself, with the help of a tutorial I found on the
internet, so it's very light in construction and consequently fast to
load on just about any computer. I haven't had the time to keep
updating it as much as I wanted to.. I'm thinking about adding some
new transcriptions soon. I welcome any transcription requests, btw,
so let me know if you have any wishes.
