Uncle Gus, I came into your life when you started the Secaucus
Meadowlarks. You kept me out of trouble then and your friendship and
wisdom have helped me through many diffcult times in my adult life.
I am proud to say you are my friend. I will always love you and keep
you and your family in my prayers. Say Hi to "Skippy" for me and
help him watch over me.

I am saddened that a man of Gus's calibre is gone, I will sorely
miss him. I came into meeting Gus in 1967 while playing in the
Bridgemen Kidet Corps. Even though I was a Drummer, Gussie would
always have a hello or a kind word to me. Our relationship grew as I
grew. My best memory of Gus was when the Bridgemen were at the World
Open in 1971. As we all remember, Gus was the "Man in Black". Well,
I being a jr. member of the corps was made to hug Gus with my body
full of shaving cream. I'll tell you, I was Gillette Foamy from head
to toe. So as I perched in hiding, Gus came into the sleeping area
of the guy's and BAM! I rushed out at our version of Johnny Cash and
smeared myself and shaving cream all over Gussie! Boy did He laugh!
We all laughed, That was the type of man He was. A very approachable
fellow. God how we had fun that evening. We still talked about it
until recently. One thing about Gus, He always made you feel welcome
and a part of the group. Condolenses to his daughters and other
family. Drum Corps community as a whole will miss this Man. Good bye
Gussie. Sweet Dreams in Heaven

Gus; may you rest in peace and always remember that you made a
difference. Not just in my horn playing, but in my life, and the
lives of all of us.
My condolences to your family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Wilke Family.
I first met Gus in 1965 in Bayonne. While I was a St. Andrew's
Bridgemen drummer,and staff-member,( not a horn-player ) the
profound influence your Dad & Grandad had on me as a youth will
never be forgotten. He was a true
gentleman & taught a lot of us about life's lessons which I carry to
this day. He was a true Friend.
I will always respect, admire and love him. I'm glad I got to tell
him this in person this summer at Meadowlands Hospital.
Rest in Peace Gussie.

My sincere condolences to the Wilke family on their loss.
I remember Gus from when I first joined the St. Andrew's Kidets. He
taught me how to play the soprano.
Even after the Kidets, and on through the New York Skyliners, Gus
was always there, as I was. Always willing to lend a hand. Helping
you in whatever way he could to make you a better horn player.
I will miss Gus. May he rest in peace. God Bless you Gus!!
You were and always will be a "Legend".
