this has always been one of my mom's favorite songs so i've heard it
for years. i've actually been using this song in my English class
to teac theme because it's never explicitly spelled out what the
song's about and it makes the students have to analyze.
but, on to the point, my mom said that she saw bobbie gentry on a
talk show once several years ago and she said that she preferred the
lyrics of the song to be a mystery and had no plans to ever really
tell what the song's meaning really is or if it was an actual event.
