The award was announced at the Live8 DVD launch.
Bob Geldof has been named the 2005 Nobel Man Of Peace.
The title is voted for by a committee of all the living Nobel Peace
Prize winners, in honour of "his unflagging work and powerful voice
on behalf of the poor of Africa over the last 20 years and in
particular the last 12 months."
"He has harnessed world opinion to make political leaders act
immediately, improving the lives of millions."
He was presented with the honour in Rome on November 24 at the World
Summit of Nobel Laureates by former Soviet leader Mikael Gorbachev,
according to the BBC.
Geldof said: "I am overwhelmed and proud. It's more than an honour,
it's almost ridiculous. It's almost too big. That's f'ing big. I feel
weird."
The award was announced at the premier launch of the Live8 DVD, which
is released on November 7.
