This Sunday October 26th from 3pm to 12pm at Bollyhood/Bissap/Baobab on 19th st (at Mission)
Bissap Baobab - The 10th Anniversary Celebration A Decade of Cuisine, Cordiality and Culture from Senegal and Elsewhere Here's the preliminary schedule. Everything is free except your beverages at the bar. 3pm - 3 live acts at Bollyhood: - Chris and Benji with Durgass - Vicky Virk - Yakuba and the Dogons Lights. 3pm - DJ and Dancing at Little Baobab with Steve, and Boima 5pm - Cocktail Hour at Bissap 7:00pm - Free Buffet dinner is served at Beobab A message from Marco: San Francisco is freezing, there is no place to sleep, there is nowhere to hide. All my hopes are gone. I think about all my friends, family and ancestors in West Africa, and especially my grandmother Mama Helene. She was always covering me and spoiling me since I was born. Now, it's time to leave, it's time to go back home with all my sadness. The little Mignane ('the one we expect to come') as she used to call me just failed on his journey in America. I sit down with tears and start praying very hard to our spiritual protector. Suddenly, in the middle of nowhere, one very little tiny Baobab seed whispers in my ears, I take a big breath, close my eyes, and shout: 'Let's try one more time !' Bissap Baobab was born 10 years ago in the midst of no more hopes, by a strange miracle that is still spreading its wonderful spiritual charm all around the Bay Area. Thanks to all of you friends and supporters of the Baobab. See you at the 10th Anniversary Celebration!

  • Wedneday May 28th - Bollywood Sound & Image

3rd I's upcoming 3-part seminar on music in Indian Cinema, presented by Robin Sukhadia.
Save the dates: May 28, June 11 and July 9.
3rd i proudly presents a series of Bollywood lectures focused on the sound and music of Bollywood through the decades. Music videos and clips from Bollywood films will be projected on the big screen, and then supplemented with analysis, historical/political insights, and performance demonstrations by Robin Sukhadia. Learn about Bollywood's famed film composers, playback singers, arrangers, and steeped musical history. We promise gregarious song and dance, whimsical musical arrangements, gaudy colors, and extremely melodramatic love scenes…all of this, of course, without any kissing on screen.
