Hi everyone :)

I love this list group!

I know there are final competitions in April in New York ...
but are there any gigs for Collegiate groups in the fall?
(In Boston or New England area)

I want to bring some friends out and get them hooked, too :)

Hi,

I've been away from acappella for almost two years and have recently
arrived in the Boston area. I'm hoping for an opportunity to become a
member of an acappella group. I'm a former member of the Denver
Acappella Project. If you visit www.dap-online.com, you'll be able to
hear me and a couple of my arrangements. ("That's All" & "Baby, It's
Cold Outside")

If there's a group that's interested, I'd love to audition!

Faith in Action is now ten years old, and we're regrouping with some former members to produce a long talked-about CD. We’re recording two live concerts this month!

Saturday, September 30
5:00 pm and 7:30 pm
Salem State University Recital Hall, Central Campus Academic Building (building 28 on this map --  http://www.salemstate.edu/maps/)

Tickets available at the door:

$12 admission (no CD included)
$20 includes admission and a pre-ordered CD
$7 preteens, teens, seniors (no CD included)

(Please, no children under 9, so we can minimize background noise.)

Faith in Action is a women's a cappella band, combining gospel and jazz with a variety of musical backgrounds and intricate original arrangements. Founded in March of 1996, the ad hoc group sang the same song (Sweet Honey in the Rock's "We Are") over several months for church-related events, culminating in a performance at Madison Square Garden in August 1996 for church members from DC to Maine. Since then, FIA has performed with the Boston a cappella community (at a cappella showcases, clubs, and East Coast A Cappella Summits), in gospel concerts, for a variety of benefit events, and on WGBH-TV with Bobby McFerrin. FIA placed third at the Boston Regional Harmony Sweepstakes in 1999.

$12 admission (no CD included)
$20 includes admission and a pre-ordered CD

Faith in Action is a higher-powered women’s a cappella group, combining a taste of jazz with a big gospel sound. Founded in March of 1996, the ad hoc group sang the same song (Sweet Honey in the Rock's "We Are") over several months for church-related events, culminating in a performance at Madison Square Garden in August 1996 for church members from DC to Maine. 2 Male Vocalists Wanted: Paid Positions ASAP
Contact:  booking@...  1-888-GO-2-JUPE

Blue Jupiter, a professional, internationally touring a cappella group based in New York City announces immediate openings for (1) Tenor and (1) Bass vocalist.

Male Tenor Vocalist:  Age 22-32
This position is not about high notes; it’s about skills and personality. You are charismatic, funny, and personable onstage and off.  You have kung-fu master level musical skills as both a pop soloist and a back-up. You learn challenging, dissonant musical parts with deadly accuracy and without breaking a sweat. You bring passion, creativity, flexibility and constantly positive energy not only to shows, but also to rehearsals, travel, mundane tasks like equipment set-up and data entry and shared down-time. Arranging, composing, theory, vocal percussion, sight-reading, invisibility and heat vision all pluses, but not required.

Male Bass Vocalist:  Age 22-32
Range ideally extends below a low D, but smaller ranges will be considered.  You have outstanding rhythm and groove, some vocal percussion skills, and command of basic theory.  You are the bass in a pop/rock band. Must have the same positive energy and musical skills required of the Tenor Position, however though invisibility is optional, heat vision is required. Please be prepared to demonstrate at auditions.

Applicants can email Blue Jupiter at booking@... or call 1-888-GO-2-JUPE
Please send a bio or resume, photo, audio samples, and any video clips you may have, ASAP.

Blue Jupiter Bio:
Blue Jupiter continues to redefine popular music, combining their a cappella influences of beatbox and harmony with edgy pop arrangements and high energy performances. This year Blue Jupiter has appeared on VH1’s Save the Music, Oprah, and several charity events- including the American Cancer Society, The Red Cross, Braking the Cycle, and others. The group expanded their international notoriety after winning the “Oreo and Milk Jingle Contest” hosted by American Idol Judge Randy Jackson. After winning “Audience Favorite” and “Best Arrangement” at the Harmony Sweepstakes two years in a row and returning from an international tour to Hong Kong, Blue Jupiter is excited to continue building their reputation as “one of the most exciting, entertaining vocal bands in the country.”

Nationally-known pop vocal band All About Buford seeks one more
powerful female singer to complete our sound. We need a pro-level
singer with stage presence and power. Preferably alto range, but
anyone who can comfortably sing in an alto range is fine. Someone with
a strong solo voice who can groove. All performances are paid. Great
ear required. Songwriting and arranging skills a plus; ability to play
other instruments also welcomed. Also are incorporating pedals and
effects. Songs are often arranged collectively - you will not be
reading from written arrangements for the most part (think band
structure), though that is changing slightly. All members get a chance
to sing lead, but also will be required to sing blended but creative
backup parts. The music is pop-oriented, with a little of whatever
else moves us, so you must have a pop voice and sensibility, and a hip
look - we want a good visual onstage as well as good music! Must be
able to make a commitment to some touring, and consistent gigging.
Competent mic technique and comfortable performance skills (movement,
ability to banter and joke) required.

We perform solely at listening rooms, festivals and concert halls of
prestige. We have strong relationships with many high-end venues, with
new performances being booked all the time. Booking is done both
internally and externally, but all management and business is
currently done internally by the members of the band. New recording in
process.

Though this is not currently a full-time commitment, it may become so
at some point (or it may not). We are an award-winning vocal band
based in the Boston area, but we are a commuting band, so disparate
locations are ok. Rehearsals approximately once a week (when
geographically together), perhaps more during the initial phase.

Please contact amy@..., or 617.290.6749 with sound
clips, photo and bio/resume. We do need to hear and see you online (or
via mail) before we meet in person. If you'd like to mail recordings
and materials, please send to: Amy Malkoff, 182 Pleasant Street,
Marblehead, MA 01945. Any questions or concerns can also be sent to
the same address. We look forward to hearing from you and to a
creative, fun, and innovative project!

The Jamboree Invitation is below as well as attached. (some ISPs cut attachments off)  I hope to see you there CHEERING on the students.!!

Sing-cerely,

New England Youth A Cappella Jamboree

Souhegan High School Amherst, NH

October 21, 2006

Concert 7:30 PM

The New England Youth A Cappella Jamboree is a special a cappella workshop/clinic and performance event for male, female, and mixed quartets and small ensembles. Students come together for a day of instruction by top local and International level quartets, area music educators, and educators representing the Barbershop Harmony Society and Harmony Incorporated.  Among others, the faculty will include New England’s own “Men In Black” the 2005 International Gold Medalist Collegiate Quartet Champions! That evening at 7:30 PM there will be a concert featuring all the participants and faculty.

A Jamboree is the perfect way to learn, have fun, and meet other a cappella singers like you.  After a day of workshops working with the faculty there will be an evening concert for the public that will feature the student and faculty quartets & ensembles.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT FUND RAISER! A fundraising opportunity is also available to each participating school music department which gives them 100% of the gross receipts for selling a limited block of tickets. Sell tickets to your friends and family and your school’s music dept. benefits!

Thanks to the generosity of the organizers and sponsors, free sheet music and learning tracks in the 4 part barbershop harmony style of a cappella will be provided, although there are opportunities for other a cappella styles. Each student quartet/ensemble will prepare and perform 2 songs for performance.  A song selection list is provided to select 1 or 2 barbershop arrangements.  For your second selection, you may optionally use one of your own close harmony a cappella arrangement of any style. (no rap).  All the students will also learn “The Star Spangled Banner” and “Teach The Children To Sing” as a choral finale. Students will then be able to perform the National Anthem at various school and community events.  Sheet music and learning tracks will be sent when you register, so register NOW!

Singing in the barbershop style is more than proper vocal pedagogy with well tuned close harmonies.  It is an opportunity to perform and express the emotional message of the lyrics in each song.  If you have a little actor/singer in you, this style will suit you very well!  Of course, partnered with realistic portrayal of lyrical message, there is a great opportunity for choreography, parody, and comedy.  Ballads, love songs, up-tunes and just plain goofiness always show up.

Form a quartet or a small ensemble and join in the fun.  Small ensembles are great for those who want to sing their voice part with the support of a friend.

If you are home schooled or can't gather the 4 voice parts or a whole quartet from within your school, sign up and we will assign all the students without quartets the same 2 songs. We will help coordinate between other singers who are local to you and arrange rehearsal time prior to the event if possible. When you get to the Jamboree, we will match you up with the other voice parts to form quartets or small ensembles.  At last year’s Jamboree, this group staunchly argued “they” had more fun than the other groups!  We offer additional coaching prior to the event to all groups.

Quartets and small ensembles can be all male, all female, or mixed.  All levels are invited to participate.  Ages range from talented 7th and 8th graders through college seniors.  Register ASAP to get your sheet music and learning track CDs early and start the fun and learning.

Although teachers and parents are not required to attend, they are most welcome to attend as chaperone/chauffer, observers, or participants. We just might get you singing! We will provide lunch and dinner for you. We will have chaperones assigned to each group.

What are you waiting for!  Join in the fun!

This special community service event to promote and help fund vocal music and harmony in our schools is hosted by the Nashua Granite Statesmen and sponsored by the Barbershop Harmony Society, Harmony Inc, & Sweet Adelines International.  This event is supported in part by a grant from the NH State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Association of International Champions Endowment Fund.

Seeking Tenor and Bass Singer- Paid Position

To our family, friends, and fans:

The East Coast A capella Review Show:

Linda and I have truly enjoyed the past 2 and 1/2 years broadcasting our show to a worldwide audience. Broadcasting our show every Wednesday evening on The Harmony Network, has been a very rewarding and personally gratifying experience. Due to personal family obligations, effective this Wednesday, 10/25/06, we will be broadcasting our very last show on THN.

Over the past 2 and 1/2 years, we have featured the music of some of the most fantastic Doo-wop and Contemporary artists from the United States, and literally, across the globe.

In addition, we have featured live a cappella groups in the studio, and we would like to send our thanks and appreciation to the following groups and guests, for appearing on our show, and sharing their wonderful music with our listening audience.:
The PERSUASIONS from New York City, The GOLDTONES from New Jersey, REUNION from New Jersey, STREETHEART from New Jersey, and  BLUE JUPITER from New York City.
We also had the honor of sharing an evening with  TOMMY BIALOGLOW ( the 1st tenor who sang with the original DUPREES, back in 1962)  and ANTHONY CAGGIANO, who also sang with the current DUPREES.

Last, but not least, both Linda and I want to personally thank the president of THN, Rich Taylor, for affording us the opportunity to present a great show, such as The East Coast A capella Review on The THN Network.

On a positive note, Linda and I are in the process of preparing a new East Coast A capella Review Show format, that we will be pre-recording at home, and will be presented on another Oldies/Doowop site in the near future. We are very excited about doing another show.

Linda and I will keep in touch via e-maill to let everyone know when our new  Doo-wop/Oldies show will be starting, and how to access the broadcast.

Always in Harmony,
Linda and Garry Cascio

Attention all singers who enjoy acting/improvising!

Announcing auditions for Harem Scarem: A Modern Romance in Four-Part
Harmony

Saturday, December 2, 11 AM to 2 PM
50 Vassar Street (at MIT)
Cambridge, MA
(Location of the room will be posted in the lobby.)

Looking to cast up to 5 women and 5 men in a partly improvised/partly
scripted show that features close-harmony singing (think Barbershop
and Doo-wop). Callbacks, if needed, will be at the same time and
location on December 9.

About Harem Scarem
It's not unusual for Gordon to be loved by anyone. His babies love him
just the way that he is. They can't see him loving nobody but them.
The only problem is, Gordon has to make a choice. Or the voices
singing in his head will make the decision for him. For your listening
pleasure, join Gordon and his quartet of admirers in their quest for
love in four-part harmony.

Harem Scarem will run Wednesday evenings in May 2007 as part of
ImprovBoston's The Hump(see
<http://improvboston.com/webcalendar/view_entry.php?id=9>).
ImprovBoston is located at 1253 Cambridge Street in Cambridge, MA.

Audition Information
To sign up for the audition (or ask questions), please e-mail Terry,
the producer, at talloyd(at)comcast.net with your name by Thursday,
November 30. You will receive an audition confirmation. If a large
number of folks respond, you will be assigned a slot from either 11:00
AM to 12:30 PM or 12:30 to 2:00 PM. Please arrive 15 minutes in
advance of your start time.

Bring a resume with any improv and singing experience highlighted, a
recent photo of yourself, and your availability to rehearse from
January through April of 2007. Please be prepared to do some a
cappella singing and experience ringing chords that you'll never hear
on a piano!

Fretless Needs a Baritone in the Boston area

“Fretless”, a Boston-based prize-winning a cappella quintet, is looking for an experienced baritone with a superb ear for tuning and a good solo voice. Sadly, our wonderful baritone, Bill, is moving away from the Boston area.

Our vocal mix is SATBB. Our repertoire spans many styles, including jazz, pop, show tunes, and a few classical pieces. We are known for our very tight harmony and our eclectic repertoire.  The group is comprised of highly-experienced singers.  Prior to forming Fretless, all three men in the group were members of the Shawsheen River Rats, a male a cappella quintet that won the Boston Regional Harmony Sweepstakes competition in 1993 and went on to take 3rd place in the National competition.

You can listen to clips of songs from the new Fretless CD, “All the Things We Are”and learn more about the groupat our website:
