Hey Gang,

An origional pewter grouping of a Barbershop Quartet, "The Un-named Four" by Michael Ricker, is now on EBAY.  The Item number: 260227269507.  The link to the item is the following:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260227269507

This is an original one of a kind commissioned piece done in 1991 by the sculptor from his "PARK CITY - AMERICANA REMEMBERED" series.  After the artist did the original for me in 1991, two years later, the Society offered a similar grouping for saly through the Harmonizer.  The "copies" were not the full size figures in this piece, and the base of Walnut was designed for this piece by the sculptor.

This piece would be an exciting table piece for any living room, den or office.

Yours in Harmony,

Rich Taylor, former Host of The APPLAUSE Show
President of THN...The Harmony Network

Hi Everyone:

Free* group voice classes will be offered for men who sing and who wish to
become better singers. If you know a guy who enjoys singing, this is a great
program!

The program is sponsored by Sounds of Concord, an award winning men's a
cappella chorus, and will consist of 5 classes on Thursday nights beginning
April 3rd, and continuing on April 10, 17, 24, and May 1.

A short session for registration, class overview, and determination of voice
range will be held April 3rd, 7:00pm at Temple Emunah, 9 Piper Road in
Lexington Mass. - off Waltham Street. The first lesson will follow after
that session.

Classes will be taught by Ray Johnson, Associate Director of the Sounds of
Concord, and Baritone of Men In Black, 2005 NE District Champion Quartet and
MBNA International College Quartet Champions. Topics will include breath
support, vowel matching, and other methods to improve vocal production. Ray
attended Hart School of Music, majoring in Theater and Voice. Music will be
taught using learning tapes, so you don't have to read music!

For further details or to pre-register contact:

Hi --

I'm actually pretty new to a cappella and went to the Harmony Sweeps
concert and had such a great time!

Karen -- if you read this, I really liked your group's performance and
was doing a search for Boston Accent on the internet to see if you had a
web site or if there was an a cappella music site that had a cd or mp3
clips so that I could get more of a sample of your music. I couldn't
find anything. If you have such a thing and I just couldn't find it,
could you please point me in the right direction? Thanks. I'm sure you
made lots of new fans from that concert. Lots of fun, with or without
the bling!

About Boston Accent

Boston Accent is an award-winning quartet that just can't get enough of a cappella singing. They belong to two barbershop societies, Harmony Incorporated and Sweet Adelines International, and were awarded the International quartet gold medal for Harmony, Incorporated in November, 2006. Since then they have been busy performing all over New England. Known for having tons of fun on and off stage, the ladies of Boston Accent are available to perform at your upcoming wedding, bar mitzvah, parole hearing, or emergency liposuction. They are especially proud of their recently-released CD, "Boston Accent: Crowned and Dangerous" and are delighted to participate in this year's Spring Fevah.

About Overboard

Overboard is a Boston-based male a cappella group whose repertoire spans a variety of musical genres. In addition to street performing throughout Boston and New England, Overboard has performed at a variety of venues, including charity events, community festivals and corporate parties, as well as at Idol Camp, the performing arts summer camp created by the producers of American Idol. In December, the group was honored to be named among the Top 5 finalists in the CBS Early Show "A Cappella Quest" hosted by Boyz II Men. In April, Overboard placed 3rd in the Boston Regional Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival.

About None of the Above

Take 8 gifted voices from a myriad of musical backgrounds...
Add equal parts of early polyphony, cutting-edge modern harmony, familiar folk songs, uplifting spirituals, catchy pop tunes, and lush jazz standards...
You'll get the eclectic, thought-provoking, and entertaining performance that only None of the Above can deliver to your next event.
NOTA was founded in 2003 and has appeared at venues large and small in the greater Boston area. We have produced several a cappella showcase concerts including Acappellabowl (benefit concert) and our annual vocal music event, Spring Fev-ah.

Two Renowned Vocal Groups Under One Roof
Ball in the House and Syncopation

Tuesday, June 17th
7:30 - 10:00 p.m.
Cambridge YMCA Theater
$15 ($12 students)
820 Massachusetts Avenue
Central Square
Cambridge, MA

Following in the path of classic harmony groups like Boyz II Men, the Temptation
and Take
6 but with a modern, urban, post-millenial twist, the five member vocal band
Ball in the
House brilliantly blends a wide range of influences, from classic R&B to pop,
hip-hop and
gospel. With their extensive tour schedule (averaging 250 dates a year), Ball
in the House
reaches millions and is arguably one of the most successful indie bands working
today.
They have opened for and performed with such artists as Gladys Knight, 98
degrees,
Jessica Simpson, Fantasia, Blondie, The Temptations, Smokie Robinson, Kool & the
Gang,
and numerous others. They can be heard on national TV and radio as the voices
behid the
Cool Whip commercials.
www.ballinthehouse.com

Ball in the House is:
John J Ryan, Dave Guisti, Aaron Loveland, Dan Szymczak, Ryan Chappelle

The Boston Globe calls Syncopation the "Manhattan Transfer of the 21st Century,"
and it is
easy to see why. Like that legendary vocal group, Syncopation performs jazz and
pop
music that is both timeless and up-to-the-minute. These four young
singer/musicians
have performed across the U.S. and Japan at jazz clubs and festivals. The style
of
Syncopation includes bebop, latin, and pop influences. The group usually
performs with a
band, but their a cappella performance earned them first place at the 2008
Boston
Harmony Sweepstakes. Each of the four singers is also an instrumentalist and is
occasionally featured playing trumpet, trombone, piano, ukulele (really!) and
percussion.
www.jazzsyncopation.com

Syncopation is:
Aubrey Logan, Christine Fawson, David Thorne Scott, Tsunenori "Lee" Abe

This year, The Barbershop Harmony Society celebrates it's 70th year
and it's International convention will be held in the new home of
Nashville, TN

Among the highlights of the covention (besides an appearance and
master classes from Real Group) are the contests. The Choruses and
quartets work all year to produce surprising sounds, great artistry,
and fun performances. This is the best of the best, and you can
watch it on your laptop, or put the webcast on your new plasma tv for
the full effect!

The Contests consist of:

Chorus Contest
28 Choruses ranging in size from 25 to 180 get to sing 2 songs each
and a winner will be named. Last years event was a tie, and the
decision was made by a one point tie breaker in the music category.
By the way, the champions, The Westminster Chorus (California) are a
group of about 50 guys all under the age of 30.

See the Westminster Chorus in Action:
http://www.westminsterchorus.org/w/

Our local favorites will be the Granite Statesmen of Nashua, NH
http://www.granitestatemen.org

Chorus Contest Session # 1 FRIDAY, JULY 4 11 am - 3 pm CST
Chorus Contest Session # 2 FRIDAY, JULY 4 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm CST

Quartet Contest
51 quartets will start with all day session on Wednesday. After
singing 2 songs, the top 20 will sing 2 more on Thursday evening,
with the goal of making the top 10 to compete on Saturday evening.
This years crop is at an all time high for talent, and the title is
very much up for grabs. 2007 Boston Harmony Sweepstakes winners, Men
In Black enter the contest ranked 11th (and you saw how good they
are!). They hope to be the first quartet from the Northeast to break
the top 10 in last 20 years.

Here is a link to last year's champs, MaxQ
http://www.maxquartet.com/
(by the way, I HIGHLY recommend their children's cd)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEzTb7HClt0

Here are our local favorites, Men In Black:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JZkY4_CIEw&feature=related

Bank Of America Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest
24 Collegiate Quartets will compete in this one, and again, the
talent level is HIGH. Last year's second place quartet in this
competition was ranked 20th in the men's competition. An amazing
feat. The current champion is Roadtrip and they represent four states
and 3 different colleges, you can learn more about them at this link:

http://www.myspace.com/roadtripquartet

Our local favorite is Storrs Four, from the University of
Connecticut.

This event will be Saturday morning, July 5th at 9:00 am cst

A side note....there has NEVER been representation from a
Massachusetts based college in this competition. I hope you will join
me and me change that for next year. There is too much a cappella in
Boston for this to happen!

Anyway, I hope you get to watch or hear some of this great event.
Listening is free, watching has a variety of purchase packages,
including one that allows you to watch after the event, in case your
holiday plans keep you from being able to partake.

Do they fit YOUR feet?

Tuckermans at 9 is NOT a casual, phone-it-in, fall/winter/spring, kicks ‘n giggles singing group; we ARE a semi-professional, contemporary a cappella septet (SAATTBB) that performs up to an average of once a month. (That means some months no gigs, but other months two or possibly more.) T9 rehearses once a week year ‘round in the Dover/Durham, New Hampshire, area, about 50 miles north of Boston. Most gigs are in New Hampshire and southern Maine, with occasional forays into Massachusetts. Bottom-line: we work hard, and have a blast doing it!

You should be able to “sell” solos, as we all take turns at them, but we’re much more interested in how you blend in tight, contemporary harmony. At the same time, T9 doesn’t just sing – we entertain – so a fun and outgoing attitude is essential (and previous stage or theater experience doesn’t hurt, either!). Vocal percussion and arranging skills are helpful, but not required. To get an idea of what we sound like, visit the T9 Music page on our website.

We can’t offer you gas money; you must do this mostly for the fun of a cappella. But because we’re semi-pro, after expenses we do pay something whenever possible. And there are never any dues to pay or music to buy. Your only expense is a one-time purchase of a new Shure SM-58 microphone, which is yours to keep forever and ever, amen, should you leave us someday. Speakin’ o’ which, we’re not asking for a lifetime commitment, but we do ask that you make a reasonable investment in us. Also, your age is irrelevant as long as you’re at least 21 and mature enough to hang out, laugh and work hard with a similar-minded bunch of 30- to 50-somethings.

• Are you able to read and memorize music?
• Are you willing to learn music between rehearsals?
• Can you find your starting note from a single pitch pipe note?
• Do your family, work and/or other performing commitments allow enough time for you to rehearse and perform?
• Are you willing to help with P.A. equipment load-in/load-out?

If so – and ya wanna know more – we’d love to meet you! (Notice we didn’t say, “audition”, even though that’s what we mean, cuz we hate ‘em, too.) Contact:

Participating guests and prospective members will have the
opportunity to experience and learn new songs and tags in close, four-
part, a cappella harmony with the chorus. Although the ability to
read music is a plus, it's not required.

The Granite Statesmen Barbershop Chorus is directed by Steve Tramack,
a renown coaching director who has led our chorus for a number of
years, including on the International stage for many of those.
Guests, who are sure to enjoy their first experience with us this
week, will be provided with a guest kit and a music gift. They will
be encouraged to join up and continue to receive expert coaching on
vocal production, breath support, breathing techniques, vowel
matching, and unit sound.

The Granite Statesmen travel from various parts of Southern New
Hampshire and northern Massachusetts to enjoy and contribute to our music. The
chorus is always eager to expand its membership.

"Where have all the sopranos gone?" (apologies to Pete Seeger)

We know you're out there somewhere, ready to make harmony tight and audiences smile. Tuckermans at 9, a fun, semi-pro contemporary a cappella group in Seacoast NH, needs a soprano pronto. Get all the info at tuckermansat9.com, then call or email... like, NOW would be good...
