On February 8th, 1985, the Dukes of Hazzard went off the air. If
you're afraid of being home on the 20th anniversary of such an
emotionally trying moment, please come out to Ryles on Tuesday the
8th where we've set up some entertainment with some good old boys of
our own: Similar Jones! You can get your hands on some barbeque,
drown your sorrows in a beer, and listen to the great musical
stylings of this talented male band.

In addition, we will also have East Side Story singing in their BACS
series debut and just might have more surprises in store for you.
Come out to Ryles and support your local music scene!

THE NEWS
We have a big solo show this weekend just 8 miles from Boston. We'll
be able to pull out all the stuff we don't often get to do,
including some instrumental tunes. Note that this show was
rescheduled from October.

We have sold the very last of our "Supercar" CDs, so there are none
left. If, at some point, there seems to be demand for it, we might
re-press it or burn some, but for now, we got none! Therefore, all
sales info has been removed from our website.

We still have DVDs, though, and we start recording our new CD soon!
It will be engineered by Dan Cantor of Jim's Big Ego, and produced
by Michael Bilotta. Michael also directed our video, and is
available for video production for all projects big and small, from
weddings tomusic videos like ours. Contact him at
m.bilotta@... for more info. He gets the big AAB Stamp of
Approval! And that's enough pimpin' for today!

The website has been updated with new photos, sound clips (live from
the VT A Cappella Summit + a really cool ME Public Radio spot), and
an updated press kit.

Join the Bubs Foundation and a cappella fans from all over New
England this Saturday at the 2005 Boston Regional of the Harmony
Sweepstakes National A Cappella Competition! On March 12, 2005 at
7:30PM, in Cohen Auditorium on the Tufts University campus, 7 a
cappella groups will sing and dance their hearts out to be named the
Boston Regional Champion. This is the 15th annual Boston Regional
competition for a trip to the National Finals in San Francisco.
Tickets are available at 617-627-3493.

The winner will succeed last year's Boston Regional Champion, Road
Show, who will be back to display their talents at the Boston
Regional on March 12th along with the award-winning Tufts University
Beelzebubs.

Not only is the competition a must-see for the a cappella world, but
it also supports Greater Boston's under-funded public school music
programs. Produced by the Bubs Foundation, a non-profit
organization, the Boston Regional Harmony Sweepstakes Competition
has been donating time, funds, and resources to Boston area public
school music programs for over 10 years. By raising money for
schools in need, the Bubs Foundation is ensuring that that the arts,
specifically music, continue to be a vital part of the curriculum in
Boston area schools.

For tickets to the show, please contact the Tufts University Box
Office at 617-627-3493. For directions and more information about
The Bubs Foundation, visit www.bubsfoundation.org.

Hey A Cappella Fans !!

Attention All High School Singers & Quartets:

On May 21st the Nashua Granite Statesmen Chorus is holding the First Annual New England High School Quartet Jamboree at the Keefe Auditorium at the Elm St. Junior High School in Nashua, NH. From 9 to 5. Check out our website www.granitestatesmen.org/Jamboree.htm

It is a special clinic, adjudication, and performance event for boys, girls, and mixed quartets and VLQs.  (Very Large Quartet of 5 or more singers) You will get coaching from our faculty of experienced singers and music educators, the 2004 Harmony Incorporated International Gold Medal Ladies Quartet "Synchronicity"; the Barbershop Harmony Society International Finalist quartet, "3 Men & A Melody" (the bass and tenor are both high school music  educators); and "Men In Black" the 2002-2004 Northeastern District Collegiate Champions.

An adjudication is the perfect way to perform and learn, have fun, and meet other singers like you. Free coaching is available prior to the event. We will run some quartet workshops in the morning and then all gather for the adjudication segment. This will be 2 song adjudication. A song selection list will be provided to select 1 or 2 barbershop arrangements taken from the songs in the Barbershop Harmony Society and Sweet Adeline's International's music educator packets. Select your songs soon so sheet music and learning tracks can be sent to you in time.  If your director or music educator would like copies of the music educator packets and the CDs inside please contact the Jamboree Chairman. You may optionally use one of your own close harmony a cappella arrangements. In an adjudication everyone is a winner! Each quartet/VLQ will receive a rating of Good, Excellent or Superior. At the Jamboree each quartet starts with one on one coaching, then you will perform for judges in the adjudication segment, after the adjudication each quartet/VLQ gets individual coaching by the attending judges. After the second coaching session all the student and faculty quartets will then perform in a quartet parade in front of a live audience.

Form a quartet or a "VLQ" and join in the fun. A "VLQ" is a Very Large Quartet of 5 or more singers. VLQs are great for those who want to sing their voice part with the support of a friend. If you are home schooled or can't gather 4 voice parts or a whole quartet from within your school sign up and we will match you up with the other voice parts! We will coordinate between other singers who are local to you and arrange rehearsal time prior to the event if possible. Quartets and VLQs can be made up of boys, girls, or mixed. Quartets/VLQs of all levels are invited to participate.

This special community service event to promote and help fund vocal music and harmony in our schools is hosted by the Nashua Granite Statesmen and sponsored by the all 3 barbershop societies; The men's Barbershop Harmony Society, and the women's Harmony Inc., and Sweet Adeline's International, and your local area businesses. For those students who have chosen to participate in the separate and wildly fun New Hampshire Barbershop Choral Festival on March 5, 2005 and the MetroWest Barbershop Choral Festival on March 12th, 2005, or the Harmony Explosion Camp this past August, you can use those choral songs if you wish in the Quartet Jamboree. There is a $10 per participant registration fee. Financial aid is available. Financial concerns should not stop anyone from attending. Contact the Jamboree Chairman for information.

What are you waiting for! Join in the fun!

Read all about it at our website: =

If you would like to take part in this event, contact the Jamboree Chairman!!

Can anyone out there explain to me the reference to "Mister Moto" in "Java
Jive"? ("Look, Mister Moto, I'm a coffee pot...") And what does it have to do
with coffee? It sounds vaguely anti-Japanese, but I don't want to be PC if
there's no reason to.

And for that matter, what's the deal with the raw onion? Did people use to eat
onions with their coffee?

My a cappella group is learning the song right now and I've always been curious
about these imponderables.

Hope you can help!

"The important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice
what we are for what we could become." -Charles Dubois

After 5 great years together, All About Buford is now caught up in
the winds of change. As musicians, the hope is that we will
constantly evolve and grow and continue to create great music.
Sometimes that leads us down different paths, and that's what's
happening in All About Buford. We'd like to tell you about the new
exciting things happening, and invite you to join us if you're
interested! All About Buford will be branching out into two
different groups: both seeking new, professional members that will
bring new life and energy to each project.

Amy Malkoff will now be the anchor of All About Buford and the band's
evolution will incorporate a hip mix of pop a cappella AND music with
acoustic instrumentation. Wes Carroll will continue with All About
Buford as adjunct member. Taunia Soderquist, Shah Salmi, and Ben
Jackson will continue on with funky, jazz-infused vocal music...and a
new name (we're open to suggestions)! We will all look back fondly
on our past 5 years and support each other in our new projects moving
forward. We hope you will too!

We have some shows upcoming, and they will either be performed by the
original group, or by one of the two new incarnations check the
website for info on that, as we work out those details. If you are on
the AAB mailing list, you will remain on it, and it will also be
transferred over to the new group, unless you request otherwise
(amy@...). We promise not to bombard you with junk!

Interested in being part of change? Are you a musician with
professional experience? Here are our audition notices with contact
information. We'd love to hear from you if you think one of these is
the project for you!

*****AUDITION FOR AMY & ALL ABOUT BUFORD*****

All About Buford: All About Buford (Amy Malkoff with Wes Carroll
periodically), a nationally known pop vocal band, seeks professional,
experienced, innovative vocalists/musicians for its new incarnation.
Seeking singers with a strong solo voice (men and alto women), and a
skilled vocal percussionist. Looking for a maximum of 4 new members
who can groove. All performances are paid. Songwriting and arranging
skills a plus; ability to play other instruments also welcomed. Also
interested in incorporating pedals and effects. Songs are arranged
collectively you will not be reading from written arrangements for
the most part (think band structure). All members get a chance to
sing lead, but also will be required to sing blended but creative
backup parts. The music is pop-oriented, with a little of whatever
else moves us, so you must have a pop voice and sensibility, and a
hip look we want a good visual onstage as well as good music! Must
be able to make a commitment to some touring, and consistent gigging.
Competent mic technique and comfortable performance skills (movement,
ability to banter and joke) required.

All About Buford performs solely at listening rooms, festivals and
concert halls of prestige. We have strong relationships with many
high-end venues, with new performances being booked all the time.
Booking is done both internally and externally, but all management
and business is currently done internally by the members of the band.
New recording in the works.

Though this is not currently a full-time commitment, it may become so
at some point. All About Buford is an award-winning vocal band based
in the Boston area, but a commuting band is an option if the
strongest candidates are in disparate locations. In fact, Wes lives
in CA! Rehearsals approximately once a week, perhaps more during the
initial phase. Please contact amy@..., or
617.290.6749 with sound clips, photo and bio/resume. If you'd like to
mail recordings and materials, please send to: Amy Malkoff, 182
Pleasant Street, Marblehead, MA 01945. Any questions or concerns can
also be sent to the same address. We look forward to hearing from you
and to a creative, fun, and innovative project!

****AUDITION FOR THE NEW TAUNIA, BEN, AND SHAH PROJECT*****
Contact: tenorauditions@...

We're currently auditioning TENORS (male) for our one remaining spot.
Below is a list of professional requirements. Don't let the stuffy
list fool you: although we take our music seriously, we're a lot of
fun! We're seeking an outgoing, energetic and positive personality
to add to our mix:

*Tenor with a strong solo voice, ability to blend. You will be
sharing the spotlight on lead, but must also be comfortable being in
a support role. The band is all vocal....therefore you must be able
to sing solos like a vocalist, but create vocal lines like an
instrumentalist.

*Vocally: A real sense of groove and a background steeped in
soul/R&B/jazz/funk music. We want to be blown away!

*Professional performing experience: Comfort onstage with a great
presence and sense of humor. Must be comfortable interacting with the
audience and other members of the band. Must be able to MOVE (i.e.
have some general dance skills). OUTGOING & POSITIVE!

*Improvisational skills: Our repertoire is mixed, but we have a heavy
jazz/funk background. Vocal improvisation is part of what we do.

*Aural arranging: We arrange on the fly. You must be quick, have
great ears and assist in vocal arranging.

*Humor: We incorporate comedy into our songs and also our banter
onstage.

*Funky: Image is important. We want someone who is hip and funky in
style and attitude.

*Travel: Must be willing to travel occassionally. (Usually anywhere
between Thurs-Sun when traveling.)

*Business: We are a self-managed band, and you must be willing to
occassionally help with managerial tasks. We work as a team.

Not Requirements, but STRONG selling points:

*Writing: We all write/compose. Looking for someone with strong
writing skills in the jazz/pop/funk genres.

*Instrumentalist: All other members play 2nd and 3rd instruments
which we occasionally use in performance. If you play an instrument
too, even better.

More about us:

The band consists of 2 other males and one female. Members are award-
winning professional vocalists. We play acoustic listening rooms,
festivals, and corporate gigs. We also all teach and run workshops
and masterclasses on a variety of vocal and performance topics. All
outgoing and fun! Group rehearsals are generally once a week on
Saturday or Sunday afternoons. Although we're not full-time, we gig
consistently and need a solid committment.

If interested, please send the following to tenorauditions@...:

1. MP3 of your singing
2. Photo
3. Resume and/or explanation of your experience and background

We will be doing a "pre-screening" online, and will select people for
live auditions from online submissions. We know our guy is out there!
Thanks to all for reading, and best wishes to all musically!

Cheers,
Amy & Wes

Can you believe it...completing 8 Years of broadcasting of The "APPLAUSE" Show!!  And tonight we have a great show for you.

We will have a rebroadcast of The Great Quartets..The SUNTONES by Strawhat Productions produced by Grady Kerr.  And we will have special guests in the Studio... Mr Rich Pearson and T.J. Barranger, former co-hosts of the show and part of the fabric of the development of this incredible project called The "APPLAUSE" Show.  And we will probably see Dave Stadtmauer , the original Co-Host of the show when we broadcast from the studios of WDVR in Sergeantsville NJ.  Dave was the board operator/engineer who made me sound so wonderful  for many of the early years.  Dave usually checks in from his home in Doylestown, PA.  We are thankful to each of these three men for assisting as we have grown over the years.

In addition, if all goes well, we will re-broadcast the special "Tribute" show that was originally broadcast on September 4, 2003, the day we lost our beloved brother in harmony, Rob Henry.  This tribute features the music of The Gas House Gang and many comments about Rob and the gang.

So tune in at www.harmonize.com/thn or www.villageradio.com for a memorable evening of reminiscing with Vinnie Haynes and I, with our special guests.  You can call us on our toll free number at 1-877-846-7664 to wish us a "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY"!!!

The new 5-man all-vocal rock band following in the footsteps of FIVE
O'CLOCK SHADOW is still holding auditions. Unlike a traditional a
cappella group, we are applying various guitar pedals and processors
to effect our voices onstage, thus creating the sound of a true rock
band.

We are looking for a TENOR to complete our lineup. A great lead
voice is key, as is the ability to sustain high backgrounds. Nice,
floaty falsetto a huge plus.

Auditions will be held on a rolling basis until a decision has been
made. While none of us are quitting our day jobs (yet), we are taking
this project very seriously, and aim to succeed in bridging the gap
between contemporary a cappella and mainstream rock/pop.

If interested, please email Ian at (iankoff at gmail dot com)and
include some information about yourself, resume/bio, sound clips,
etc., and a phone number you can be reached at in the evenings. We
look forward to hearing from you.

Best,
Ian, Oren, Caleb, and Dennis

Saturday, April 30th at 2:30 pm, the Barbershop Sweethearts of
Boston University will be holding their Spring Concert at the George
Sherman Union Auditorium (775 Commonwealth Ave).

If you didn't think that Barbershop can be sexy, sassy, and fun then
you need to see these girls sing!

Their special guests for the show will be Men In Black, 2nd place
finishers in the ICCA New England Regional. These guys have brought
an exciting youthful intensity to the Barbershop style. They are
down to earth but their sound is out of this world. If you think
you "know barbershop", you need to see these guys.

Tickets are just $5.

The 60 minute show allows you to come into Boston, hear some great
music, and still have time to enjoy the city.

For more show details, email barbrshp@...
