Hi Gang,

Boy are we excited.  Blue Jupiter, one of the premier a cappella groups in the New York Area, will be in the studio for a live performance on The "APPLAUSE" Show, tomorrow night, March 9th.  The show is one of the five live shows on THN...The Harmony Network, the first and only commercially licensed radio station to turn it's live format over to barbershop and a cappella music.

Blue Jupiter has been a favorite on the APPLAUSE Show since we first heard "Ear Candy", their first CD.  They recently released their newest CD called "Live in New York City", a recording of their "Off Broadway" show that they did at Don't Tell Mama's cafe in the city for three months earlier this year.  They have just finished the New York Regional Harmony Sweepstakes competition where the audience just loved their set.

You can access the show at www.villageradio.com  or www.harmonize.com/thn

You can join the chat room by accessing the "harmonize.com" site and following the simple steps to "Join the chat room while the live broadcast is in progress".    You can call the studio on the toll free number 1-877-THN-SONG

We will also be featuring the new CD from O.C.Times on the show tomorrow night.  This 8 song CD is an exact performance from the 2006 International Competition in Salt Lake City.

Gary Rush and I hope you will join us tomorrow night for a great evening of a cappella music.

For all the hard working people at THN...The Harmony Network, I remain
In Harmony,

Rich Taylor, proud Host of The "APPLAUSE" Show

Subject: Copley Cats: A Cappella group holding open auditions for all female voice parts
iwebeck
Send Email Send Email

The Copley Cats are currently scheduling auditions for all voice
parts! Auditions will be held on Saturday, April 8th, from 12:00 –
4:00 at the Arlington Center for the Arts (www.acarts.org). To
schedule an audition, please send an e-mail to
copleycats@....

There will be an open rehearsal before the auditions so that you can
get a better sense of who the Copley Cats are and what we do!

More helpful information about auditioning for the Cats…

We sing because we love it and we enjoy each other's company. This
is not a business venture, and any money we make goes into a kitty
(no pun intended) for general use by the group for expenses.
However, we are serious about the music we make and are committed to
the group and each other.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to
9:30 pm at a Cat's home. We try to keep the rehearsals in a central
location, such as Coolidge Corner (Brookline) or Wellesley, but on
occasion we meet in Framingham. You should note that these places
are not necessarily T accessible, so if you don't have a car, you'll
need to carpool with another Cat. Rehearsals are important, so if
you currently have a Tuesday night engagement, then perhaps this is
not the best time for you to audition. We do understand that we all
have real lives, though, and we try to work things out when we can.

Audition Schedule: We will schedule up to three people each half
hour. We ask that you prepare a short piece to sing for us (a
cappella, of course). We will also do some exercises to check your
range and musicality – e.g. singing back a sequence of notes, picking
out a note in a chord. We will also teach you a part of one of our
arrangements where we will be looking for blend, how quickly you
learn the part, if you can hold your part while others around you are
singing other parts, etc. PLEASE NOTE THAT READING MUSIC IS NOT A
REQUIREMENT! We are just as interested in people who can learn by
ear.

We look forward to hearing from you! If you have any other
questions, please let us know.

Thanks!

On The East Coast A Capella Review you will have an opportunity to hear some of the great Doo-wop/Streetcorner a Capella tunes as they were done in the 50's, 60's and you will also hear newer contemporary A Capella groups singing their interpretations of many of the songs of today, A Capella of course! I truly enjoy sharing musical knowledge with the audience and enjoy providing some of the history behind the music and artists.

Feel free to join us in the chat room, or call in on our Toll-Free number (1-877-846-7664) during the show. Linda and I will do our best to honor every and all requests during the broadcast and would love to hear from our listeners. So tune in Wednesday evenings 7 to 11 PM (EST) on THN (The Harmony Network) to sit back and enjoy some great Doo-wop/Contemporary A Capella tunes and hear some of the music that made the east coast sounds so memorable.

Hi there all of you close harmony fans.

It is with deep sorrow that I have to announce that THN, The Harmony Network, has been notified by Verizon (Our DSL Carrier), that the account and their service has been suspended until the account is current.  As we have been telling you for almost two months, the Network ran out of money in January.  After an appeal through this forum, the kindness of a couple of folks, and a tremendous gift from the Rahway Valley Chapter, we were able to stay on the air for February.   This decision by Verizon is irreversible without the influx of the money to pay the overdue balance of $530.00.

This decision affects the operation of the Network and all of their weekly shows. "Monday Night With Joaner", hosted by Jeanne Garrett, "Tuesday Night Swipes", hosted by Marty Israel and Vinnie Haynes, "The East Coast A cappella Review", hosted by Linda and Garry Cascio, "The APPLAUSE" Show, hosted by Gary Rush and I, and "The Best of Both Worlds", hosted by Ari Brafman,  will be "QUIET" until this problem is solved.

THN...The Harmony Network began their third year of operation at the beginning of this month, and is the only commercially licensed radio station in the country to turn their live format over to barbershop harmony and a cappella music.

The Staff and local team of the Network will be meeting tomorrow night and we will keep this forum advised as to the plans and hopes of the people who have given their time and talent for two years to make the Network a 5-night per week place where you can listen to the music you love the most.

If you are in the position to help us with the current problem, $530.00, or if you want to help us in whatever way you can, please email me at RMTMUSIC@..., or if you want to call me the cell number is 973-592-7351  This project has been a labor of love and I am devastated that the Network has been forced off the air because of a money issue.

With all hopes of resolving this dilemma, I remain

Hi folks,

I suspect I need to start this off with, “You old-timers might remember us…” but anyway…  My group, Faith in Action, is planning to do a couple concerts this summer in order to produce a Live CD.  (It’s only taken us 10 years ;-)  We’re looking for recommendations for venues in the Boston area that are acoustically good for such a project.

We’ll have some alums with us, so we’ll be up to 10 women, gospel/jazz, individually mic’ed.  Preferred towns would be in the Boston/Beverly/Acton triangle (i.e., more North/Northwest than South of the city).  We hope to pack the hall with enthusiastic audience members, but I don’t have a preferred seating capacity.

Please send suggestions off-list, or if you’d like to share any experience recording live gigs or any recommended resources...  (We’ve been reading related stuff at bacs.org and casa.org, plus different members have relevant experience and contacts, but feel free to chime in.)

Thanks much!
Sharon

To all our friends, fans, and loyal listeners of The East Coast A capella Review,

It is with deep sorrow that we have to announce that THN, The Harmony Network, can not broadcast any shows, until sufficient funding is acquired. As everyone is most likely aware, we are a Listener Supported Station and contributions are the only means of keeping us broadcasting.

This situation has had a negative effect on the operation of the Network and all of our weekly shows. "Monday Night With Joaner", hosted by Jeanne Garrett, "Tuesday Night Swipes", hosted by Marty Israel and Vinnie Haynes, "The East Coast A capella Review", hosted by Linda and Garry Cascio, "The APPLAUSE" Show, hosted by  Rich Taylor and Gary Rush, and "The Best of Both Worlds", hosted by Ari Brafman,  will be "SILENCED" until this problem is solved.

THN...The Harmony Network began their third year of operation at the beginning of this month, and is the only commercially licensed radio station in the country to turn their live format over to barbershop harmony and a cappella music.

The Staff and local team of the Network will be meeting to discuss the current situation, and we will keep all of our listeners advised as to the plans and hopes of the people who have given their time and talent for two years to make the Network a 5-night per week place where you can listen to the music you love the most.

If you are in the position to help us, in whatever way you can, please send your contributuion to The Harmony Network at 41 Watchung Plaza ,#222, Montclair, New Jersey, 07042

I'm looking for a list or starting point for rehearsal
spaces for my vocal group. We'd like to keep it as cheap
as possible but everyone's home, the cheapest, isn't as
feasible as it used to be. Any reccomendations? We just
need a room with a piano or keyboard, we could even
supply a keyboard.

Thanks!

We were so lucky to have had over 20 Choral and Acapella groups join
us for the holidays to perform at the Opera House for The Nutcracker
last season!

We have already set our schedule for The Nutcracker 2006 and we
would like to invite you to join us in providing music for our
patrons, pre-performance. Please note the dates for The Nutcracker
on our website: http://bostonballet.org/nutcracker/nutcracker_sched-

your choral group for one or more of these performances.

Again, we will be offering your group of 20 or fewer 50% off of
ticket prices in Section B and coverage on our Boston Ballet web
site, besides the opportunity to expose your choral group to
thousands of patrons.

I hope you will be able to join us again and I look forward to
talking to you soon.

Tuckermans at 9 has an immediate opening for a second

septet (four men, three women, SAATTBB) that rehearses
Tuesday nights, year 'round, in the Seacoast, NH,
area. We perform, on average, once a month, primarily
in NH and ME; at this time, we have gigs scheduled

Applicants must be able to read music, work on notes

In conjunction with their appearance at the ICCA Finals in New York, Vocal Point is taking a mini-tour around the East Coast, and they’ve just announced they’ll be making their first ever appearance in the Boston area!  Hailing from Brigham Young University, Vocal Point is a nine-man a cappella storm that not only sells more albums than almost any other collegiate a cappella group in the world, but they also have a killer live show: they repeatedly win the west region of the ICCA (including awards for best choreography, best soloist, best arrangement, and best vocal percussion), and they recently took runner-up in the national ACA award category of “best male collegiate ensemble” right behind the Tufts Beelzebubs.  Here’s what people are saying about Vocal Point:

“Fresh, fun, energetic… these guys are amazing live, and it shows bigtime.”

--Primarily A Cappella

“…an electrifying concert program.”

--The Hawk Eye (Iowa)

“One of the hottest – and coolest entertainment commodities at BYU.”

--Utah County Journal

“They rock.  Seriously.”

--Acappella.com

This appearance is their only public concert on the east coast.  Don’t miss your chance to see this incredible, award-winning group live!

SHOW DETAILS:
Tuesday, May 2

7:00pm

Watertown HS Auditorium
(50 Columbia St, Watertown, MA)

The Sounds of Concord annual show is coming up soon - May 6th and 7th !!! a show not to miss!!
Top billing goes to

Minimum Wage – an a cappella musical comedy group that teaches their audiences the joys of working at a fast food restaurant. Described as inventive, insane and delightful, Minimum Wage is a combination of the Marx Brothers, Forever Plaid and the Flying Karamazov Brothers rolled into one. During a performance, the audience might witness a lecture on Spatula techniques that goes hilariously awry. Or a capricious, musical history lesson about the "'Histoire du le Burger." Silly, playful, funny and brilliantly inventive, Minimum Wage wows their audiences with heavenly harmonies that are balanced by a delightfully irreverent sense of humor. The Wall Street Transcript says, “Zany, nonstop entertainment with feel-good humor and terrific singing." http://www.miniwage.com/

Also singing are:

The Buzz – An absolutely fab quartet that has sung from Dortmund, Germany to Clinton Township, MI with stops in Florida and Pennsylvania. The Buzz took top honors at the Sweet Adeline’s international quartet champion competition for 2005. You have to hear them! http://www.thebuzzquartet.com/

Boston Accent – a local fantastic quartet made up of four women who sing because they sing well – in November 2005, Boston Accent won a 3rd place medal at Harmony, Inc.'s International competition – rhythm, harmony, good looks – they have it all! http://www.bostonaccentquartet.com/

Concord eXpress Top quartet from the Sounds of Concord chorus – these guys will make you realize you never want to eat sushi again – at least the way they do.
Acton – Boxborough High School, 36 Charter Rd, Acton MA 01720.
7:30 pm Saturday May 6th and 1:30 pm Sunday May 7th. Handicap accessible.
For tickets - call me or go to www.SoundsofConcord.org or call 866.206.9067 x7622
Tickets - $18 advance, $20 at door, students up to 22 $5, 5 and under - free.
