Greetings to all my rain-soaked drumming and dancing compadres!
Could it be that we're finally shaking off the endless weeks of gray
sogginess so that we can actually get summer under way???
Here's what DFOA has in store for you this July to help propel us into
the heart of the season.....
WHAT: FreeDrum -- Drum & Dance Circle
WHEN: Thursday, July 2nd, 7pm to 9pm+
WHERE: Unitarian Church, 23 Pine Street, Milford MA
HOW MUCH: $5 per adult, kids under 13 are free
WHO & WHY: The "who" is you, your kids, your significant other, your
friend down the street and your closest relatives (please, not your
parakeet). The "why" is because as a human being who can't keep your
feet still when you hear a cool rhythm, you are drawn like a moth to the
flame by the mere mention of a public drum circle. And the flames will
be burning in Milford this Thursday! Bring your drum and/or percussion
gizmos, as well melodic stuff like flutes or didgeriedoos. I'll have
the usual collection of drums to share if you need to borrow. Once the
groove gets cooking, everyone takes a part in making it all happen as we
co-create (not to be confused with pro-create) a night of eurythmic bliss.
WHAT: Drum-enChant
WHEN: Thursday, July 16th, 7pm to 9pm+
WHERE: The Enchanted Fox, 174 Main Street, Medway, MA
HOW MUCH: $10 per adult
WHO & WHY: This monthly gathering is open to anyone who loves the
spiritual intersection of drumming and chanting and how they can combine
to elevate our consciousness while bringing calm and a sense of
wholeness. This month will be a special opportunity to delve deeper
into the chanting half of Drum-enChant, since Dave C. will be away and
Eva Friedner will facilitate the group with her own distinctive style
and knowledge of sacred song. Without Dave, extra drums will not be
available this month, so please bring your own. If you are new to
either drumming or chanting, this is a wonderful way to learn the
basics, regardless of whatever musical background you may or may not have.
WHAT: Dave C's Annual Drum Roast
WHEN: Saturday, July 18th, 5pm to 11pm
WHERE: Dave C's place, 15 West River Street, Upton MA
HOW MUCH: Potluck contribution
WHO & WHY: If you are a friend, relative, acquaintance or have ever
drummed with me in the past, then you are welcome to join in this casual
gathering to celebrate the simple fact that we all just enjoy having a
good time. Bring some kind of food to share for the potluck, a drum if
you have one, and a folding chair. This event will happen Rain or Not
Rain. Drinks, utensils and grill will be provided. We'll eat and
socialize from 5pm to 8pm, then get the bonfire going and drum loudly
from 8pm to 10pm, then drum softly from 10pm to 11pm, at about which
time the neighbors will have had enough (all times are approximate and
are subject to change on the slightest whim).
