nothing seems to have come of it... Anyone know what's up?

Does anyone else think that Colour By Numbers benifited the most from
the remastering? The album just sounds so much cleaner and has greater
clarity than I've ever heard it before.
Kissing To Be Clever also sounds better than ever- I think they moved
the bass a bit further up in the mix which makes it more prevalent.
For some reason, Waking Up With The House On Fire's remastering doesn't
sound as impressive to me for whatever reason- maybe because it was
recorded the latest of the three?

When do you think George's voice was at it's peak and best sounding? I'm
going to say 1983's Colour By Numbers. It's leaps and bounds above
Kissing To Be Clever from a vocal perspective, and it's pretty sad how
bad his voice got by 1987 from the smoking and drug abuse. I kind of
like that it's a little raspy on Sold ("Next Time") but it doesn't
really help his singing any.
He sounds pretty good on Waking Up With The House On Fire but there
wasn't much for him to really test himself with on that one.
-Paul.
Does anyone know which CC/George albums were released on CD in the
short-lived cardboard longboxes?
I remember Kissing To Be Clever and Sold specificly were released in
longboxes but those are the only two I remember ever seeing in stores.
-Paul.
For you George solo discography experts out there, here's a question
The 7" remix of Don't Take My Mind On A Trip was released on Boyfriend
before it was released as a B-Side in the U.S, right (and before High
Hat was released in the U.S, I think). Maybe it's the 12" mix. Anyway
it's a remix- that much I know for sure. :)
Why didn't Virgin just use the "standard" version of the song (which
later appeared on High Hat) on Boyfriend? And the song is missing
alltogether from Tense, Nervous Headache (?).
I think the 7" mix is inferior to the "standard" mix, personaly. Maybe
they thought it would go over better in Europe if they could release the
7" mix as the A-Side of a single and get it some action on the chart?
Was the 7" mix released as an A-Side anywhere outside the U.S? Anyone
know for sure? Since it's not called the 7" mix outside the U.S (judging
by the fact that it's not listed as such on Boyfriend) I assume it was
released without identifying it as a remix if it was on the A-Side of
any singles?
-Paul.
Just for fun, I came up with this little idea.
Take any of the tracks from Tense Nervous Headache / High Hat /
Boyfriend and try to make one comprehensive, listenable album from all
the tracks.
For the record the albums' current configurations are:
HIGH HAT (the idea here was to salvage the best tracks from Boyfriend
and Tense for the U.S I think):
Don't Take My Mind On A Trip
Whisper
Wheither They Like It Or Not
You Found Another Guy
You Are My Herion
I'm Not Sleeping Anymore
Kipsy
Don't Cry
Girl With Combination Skin
Something Strange Called Love
BOYFRIEND:
Don't Take My Mind On A Trip (They use the 7" remix here for god knows
what resaon but don't identify it as such)
You Found Another Guy
Wheither They Like It Or Not
I'm Not Sleeping Anymore
Lies
Big Dark Man
Boyfriend
No Clause 28 (Hi-Energy mix)
TENSE, NERVOUS HEADACHE:
Don't Cry
You Are My Herion
I Go Where I Go
Girl With Combination Skin
Whisper
Something Strange Called Love
I Love You
Kipsy
Mama Never Knew
What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted
American Boyz
Happy Family
Okay that said, here's the compliation I'd have released in every
country and I'd junk the rest of the tracks or religate them to B-sides:
Don't Take My Mind On A Trip
Whisper
You Found Another Guy
You Are My Herion
Kipsy
Don't Cry
Girl With Combination Skin
Something Strange Called Love
No Clause 28 (Hi-Energy mix- and in my world the song wouldn't have
ended up on Martyr Mantras).
What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted
BONUS TRACK- Don't Take My Mind On A Trip (7" remix)
BONUS TRACK- A Boy Called Alice (this really should have gone on one of
the albums instead of being tossed away as a B-side).
Not in that particular order maybe, but I think those are the most
listenable songs of the bunch. I didn't calculate if all those songs
would actualy fit on a 77 minute CD but I think they would. What do you
all think?
Of course I wish they'd just have released all the tracks in a double CD
set in every country so we wouldn't have to go searching for all three
albums to hear everything... Oh well.
-Paul.

Listen to God Thank You Woman (the standard album version) starting at
around 2 minutes in ("Thank you, thank you for the..."). Right about at
2 minutes, 6 seconds into the song there's this really bad edit ("..Joy
that you give to me" when the backup singers join in).
It sounds like the master take was cobbled together from at least two
different takes or something. You can just hear George say the "J" in
the word "Joy" before they edited in the backround singers (and the rest
of George's singing along "..oy that yo give to me") doesn't sound liket
it's from the same take.
Strange.. been listening to the song for almost two decades now, and
only noticed that today! :)

I was just thinking- Gusto Blusto was the third, and last single from
>From Luxury To Heartache, right? And apparently it died a quick and
painless death on the charts since nobody (including Virtin who didn't
give it a proper video) gave a crap about it.
But why? It's one of the better tracks on the album, and efinatley a
better song than "Sexuality" (which wsa apparently going to be the third
single at one point). It's very dance-able. Did this song ever get a
remix or anything as a B-side?
Maybe they really should've gone with Heaven's Children as the third
single instead? Well by the time they figgured that out, it was too late
anyway.. Oh well.

I just got The River Sessions live CD today and gave it a listen. I
agree with the person who said the mixing on the CD is bad. George is
too loud and everything else (insturments and Helen) are muddy and hard
to hear. I don't know if it was recorded that way or what, but it's just
awful.
The performance is pretty lackluster too, and George sounds kind of
ragged (and his random yelling into the microphone for no apparent
reason gets old fast).
For the most part the songs are played note-for-note as they are on the
album(s). Tracklisting is:
I'll Tumble 4 Ya
Take Control
Love Twist
I'm Afraid Of Me
Time
Boy Boy (I'm The Boy)
You know (I'm Not Crazy)
Do You Really Want To Hurt Me
White Boy
Church Of The Posion Mind
The only interesting thing about the album is that they did Church Of
The Posion Mind before it was recorded for the (at the time unreleased)
Colour By Numbers album...
So, I'm trying to figgure out why this was released now in 2005; instead
of back in 1998 or 1999 for the Culture Club reunion/new album. Not
quite striking whille the iron is hot, are they?
I guess I'm glad to have it just for the sake of having it in my
collection but I don't think I'll be listening to it very often and I
recomend it for diehards only or for those who havn't heard a Culture
Club live show from the early years before.
Why couldn't we have gotten the "Kiss Across The Ocean" concert on CD
instead, which at least has more variety and a better performance? Oh
well.
