Re: [Bringing It All Back Home Club] Re: new to the group

Hello,

I'm an Irish lurker who has just outed himself to say that I will be attending a
Bob concert in Dublin at the end of this month. I've seen His Bobness quite a
few times now, and he is nothing if not unpredictable in concert, though very
entertainingly so. Last time I saw him he had such bad laryngitis that his
concert for the following day in London had to be cancelled, but his performance
was rivettingly intense and his reading of his lyrics seemed more focused than
ever before, as if he was trying to compensate for his basic inability to reach
notes by his concentration on dramatic inflection. His voice that night was a
cavernous growl which would have made Tom Waits sound like Joni Mitchell by
comparison.
Anyway, I didn't mind: I like individualistic voices like that: Tom Waits,
Leonard Cohen and Neil Young are among my other favourites. I loved Leonard
Cohen's tribute to Dylan, by the way, when he described him as 'The Picasso of
Song' - a perfect description of such a musical pioneer.

I can't remember which song I got to hear first but it was probably
an old classic... The first album I got was one of his first best-of
type. I was about 14 I guess. But the first real album I got was the
Bootleg series 1-3. Not bad at 15!

speaks good english (I have lived in Ireland for 6 years), I can say
he really is the first American Poet who turned me into American
poetry.
