for those of you who don't know:
compomicro-dexall existed from 1997-2002
started as a trio....
m.guarino on drums (currently: oaxacan)
j.stone on bass (currently: planetsize)
j.rodriguez on vox-fx (currently: bran(...)pos)
actually started in LA as a drum/bass duo called
Livestock around '94 or '95
j.rodriguez joined the band when the duo moved to the
bay area around '95
a sax player named Liam moved up from LA and joined
the group and the name changed to Topple
the sound was a crosseyed mix of
noise/freejazz/skronk/other
Topple played shows for a little over a year at venues
such as Hotel Utah's Dark Circle Lounge and the Impala
Cafe in LA, but then quickly broke up and reformed in
'97 sans the sax player as Compomicro-Dexall
the new trio played shows around the Bay Area in
'97-'98 at venues such as the Kommotion and
Beanbenders with bands such as Rubber O Cement,
Citizen Band, and Thomas Dimuzio's Ha-Ha Hydra
j.stone left the band mid-'98
m.guarino and j.rodriguez continued the band as a duo
in search of a 3rd.
j.rodriguez picked up the bass to fill in where
j.stone's absence had left a hole
for a small stint c.broderick played clarinet as a 3rd
sometimes m!staiano would play guitar as a 3rd
but mostly it ended up as a duo
the two continued to add instruments and sounds to
fill in the space that the always elusive 3rd left
the band of the original trio was always the
strongest, most effortless, most consistent period,
but some of the best recordings come from the duo
period
the duo played shows in the bay area from '98-'02 at
venues such as the Clit Stop, Kimos, the Stork Club,
and the Luggage Store
the duo did a 4-week U.S. tour in 2002, had some
amazing shows, and promptly disbanded upon returning
home
a few 'official' cdr and tape releases were
distributed in small doses over the years
the best of these will be available on the website
in addition, a ton of other unreleased stuff was
recorded and will be available as well over the coming
months, including old Topple and Livestock recordings
i hope you enjoy the current batch of packages which
includes the best 'official' duo release The
Encephelaphone (2000), the only 'official' trio
release Live at Beanbenders (1998), and a never
released session tape of the original trio from 97 or
98. all packages are high-quality rendered mp3s with
jpeg artwork.
cheers,
j.rodriguez
