Ya, ..twig if you post on here you will confound
the kiddies. Let's keep it sane. The new drum buddy
is a little too 'outer space' for some of our more
recent members. HA!!
JOHN OSWALD:'Bell Speeds' You
know John O. by Plunderphonics right, ok. So he takes
a bell and does different ting ting gongs with the
sample in 8 octives. Yup.
VARESE: 'Poeme
Electronique' Back in 58 when tape players were available
Varese made this hand grenade to go off at the Philips
Pavilion thru 450 loudspeakers. There were 20 at this show
doing the super stereo head f-uck and making the dizzy
pulse to the heart. If you are not familiar with this
piece...go to electronics 101 at Tower records and get this
thing cooking in you brain. It set the world on fire
and everthing else is aspiring from his springboard.
Great and hot toddie!
HILDERGARD
WESTERKAMP:'Cricket Voice' Hoot by the sea with some dippy diggi doos
with a sea shell up to the ear. A few bounces on a
taut cable and ambient saddles quietly adjusted for a
sea horse ride. Sound like fun? Got birkenstock?
MATH INGALLS:'Fingerling'. It starts off young math is
talking us through his music he will play soon on the
clarinet, some sounds then a crowd, come on Math play!!
then the sounds of 6 yr old Math hitting a few notes.
Cut up brainball gets kicked around. LOUD! It goes
all over and ends up under the bridge in Austin
waiting for the bats to come out to eat bugs. We are in
the dark waiting with a crowd. They come out. More
cut up start up nuts. The crowd goes wild when the
lights come up!! This piece had other parts of his old
stuff thrown in here but the sound system made it worth
the 3rd listen. Could do this every year. Great great
great. As Bran..Pos put it "great use of the room".
DENIS SMALLEY:'Neve'' Walking around on a glacier with
tibetian bowl pinball. Breathing straws gets slow f-ucked
into a top of a cup cover. Ceramic milk water goes
through a lead water pipe into a 'super palm' from a
'super man' with hard luck trying to start up styrofoam
x ray eyes. Cellophane tinkles, more water cerro
tube, tone foam. AAAAah ok that's my night last night.
I would usually look over my shoulder where the
Bran..Pos was sitting to see what he thought of the pieces
since his ear and mine are pretty similar in pointy
star shape, and if he scratched his funnel chin it
meant...hmmm.... good! If he was there shaking his goggles and
crying it meant...hmmm....kill me! He was killed on a
few pieces and those parts didn't get the long
descriptions. It sure was nice indeed to get the Poeme
Electronique licking the ear wax in surround stereo steroids.
Can't wait til next year. I will wait, I have to..
