Best Lossless Format?
For what we're doing, flac is the answer. But if you want lots of details, look at this hydrogenaudio thread. BTW, that's the place to go for info on audio compression, both lossless and lossy. http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=29655 |

SHN (and mkw) for Windows
It's best to encode new seeds using flac. But most Windows users will still want to get mkwACT for decoding older shows that are seeded in shn. Please save the installer file to your computer (right click, Save Target As) and run it from there; and follow the install instructions carefully - most of the problems people have with this are because they didn't take a little care in installing. One additional install note - don't bother installing the mp3 feature, it uses ancient technology. mkwACT can also handle shows accidentally seeded as mkw files, or let you convert a show you want to seed to wav, which can then be converted to flac or shn. Please don't seed mkw format files! http://www.etree.org/mkw.html |

SHN plugin for WinAmp
You can listen to the audio in shn files without decompressing them or burning them - great for sampling shows, or just listening from your computer. (By the way, the flac installer automatically installs the flac plugin for WinAmp, if WinAmp is on your computer). http://www.etree.org/shnamp.html |
