Before plonking on this eBay: is anyone on the list interested in this?
Still working perfectly, still six months warranty - I upgraded to a 500
GB drive recently, so I have no use for this one anymore. Hoping to get
100 euros (includes shipping) or best offer - offer only applies to
Europeans, shipping anywhere else would be too much.
And of course I'd be happy to fill it to the brim with BTS live shows.;-)

Article this morning in the NYC Metro free paper...
If you recognize the title of John Sellers' book "Perfect From Now On: How
Indie Rock Saved My Life" as an homage to the third full-length record by
the Boise, Idaho-based indie rock band Built to Spill, you are allready his
target audience and you will love this book.
And if you know that the record, released in 1997, was the band's major
label debut on Warner Bros. records, and can name the lineup of the band
during that period and the song that gives the record its title, well, you
will hate this book, and curse Sellers' name, right before you turn the
page, and fall in love with him all over again.
John Sellers will read from "PFNO" today (Monday March 5) at 7:00PM at the
Barnes & Noble Chelsea, 675 Sixth Ave.

I thought the new album was pretty good. Hard to argue with the general sentiment that PFNO/KILAS/NWWL > all the albums except for AMOTF > AMOTF.
My Doug drug of choice lately has been Just Kidding from Treepeople. He only wrote about three or four of the songs on there, but the ones he wrote are choice (and the ones he didn't write... well... they're mostly iTunes unchecked by now... but seriously, how did Doug let them release "Outside In" or "Nod and Blink"? There must have been better pot in the 90's. But I digress). In particular, his solo at 1:06 in Clouds and Faces melts my brain (in a good way) every time I hear it. Kind of like the solo at the end of "Stop the Show", have you guys ever really listened to that thing? It sounds almost like an Irish jig.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to them coming to town again. Got to watch the NBA Finals with Doug last time he was here, I was impressed that he knows practically as much about the Dallas Mavericks as he does about rocking.
I think this list is dead....
I remember when I joined when I was stil in college...10 years ago and
there
were so many messages a day.
I think you and me and maybe Phil Huckelberry (name?!) may be the last
few
survivors. (:
To tell you the truth, I was really unahppy with the last album. I had
tix
to see all 5 in NYC and only ended up going to 3 of them (still crazy i
know) and that was enough of the new album for me.
I never even loaded it onto my ipod. sad.
thoughts?

This a nonsequitor but I'm really enjoying "Teeth like God's Shoe

This is the 15th post of 2007. There were only 6 posts in all of 2006, all
last February. You have to back to 2002 to find a year with more than 100
posts.
The list was still pretty strong throughout Keep It Like A Secret and was
fairly active with Live came out, but activity trailed off toward the end
of 2001, a couple of months after Ancient Melodies of the Future came
out. I think Perfect From Now On set the bar so high, and Keep It Like A
Secret and Live came at least close enough to that bar to maintain
interest, and then there was an inevitable tumbledown. Doug's solo album
got little discussion here, the tours didn't get a lot of attention here...
and in some ways this is ironic, because the band's vitality as a live band
has never really gone down in my mind. They are probably my favorite
actively touring not-broken-up band still going. As much as anything it
seems symptomatic to me of having gotten to a point where I just spend less
time discussing things like this, and Built To Spill being a convergence
point for a lot of people who are really a lot like me in that
respect. Like Martin says: I feel a little old.
I've seen them six times. The only other bands I've seen as often are
Spoon (6) and Wilco (6), and Silkworm (9). I used to think that was a lot,
but really, it's not so much anymore. I've missed as many shows as I've
made. Just happens that way.
I was kind of underwhelmed by You In Reverse. I don't think I liked the
production so much, and not much grabbed me beyond "Goin' Against Your
Mind". I'm not sure what I wanted it to be; maybe most things underwhelm
me at this point, I don't know. Maybe too I didn't realize that it came
out last April. It seems like it's been three years. That's what this
kind of crazy hectic existence will do to your mind.
I recall that files were available of three nights they did in Minneapolis
or Seattle, something like that, and I used to have all that, but I don't
anymore. Anyone know where that's available?

Even though I'm not a fan of Johnston's music, I cannot recommend this
highly enough - a very moving and intimate portrait of dealing with a
mental illness.

Seeing Phil Huckleberry mentioned makes me feel old - I remember signing
up for a lot of music mailing lists when I first had email (1995, at
college), and he was one of the more prominent members of the BTS and
Pavement lists then.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I think the new album is great,
although (obviously) no PFNO (but how could it be?). I find AMOTF their
weakest effort - not very cohesive, every other song sounds like filler.
Acronymically speaking ;-) to MS in PDX/DUB: JW is going to send me a
boatland of uncirculated 1997 shows soon - and we all know that sharing is
caring. ;-)
Looking forward to the first Amsterdam date in seven(!) years,
Martin

This thread is now officially a roll call... Present!
I'm not dead... I got a new job and moved to Ireland in July with my whole
family and have landed in a crazy busy life here... I'm still hosting http://bts.23.com/ but I haven't updated it
with the fall tour, and I think there are a couple of dates that aren't listed.
Embarassing, but I'm saving all the mail I've got, and hope to find a day to do
updates soon. Not easy when you're living abroad... every free day I get I feel
more like wandering down random roads here to see what I'll find.

I thought the record was better than the previous one, and the shows in June were great... loved the new-new songs, and Re-Arrange. Calvin's video cameo was sweet. I hear a rumor that they're coming to Europe in the Spring, and Doug said last June that Ireland wasn't out of the question... fingers are crossed.
I haven't posted in years but it's good too see that there are still some unyielding devotees out there. The two shows in DC last year were great. I think some people in the crowd were confused by the slide show. More... http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6204355
The new album is between good and really good. Great would be UAW or PFNO.
This list used to be great, then it just up and died one summer. I really like the new album. I could listen to the last 4 songs on repeat for a day or two easily.

I thought "Goin' Against Your Mind" was a great first step on
the
album, lots of swagger and ballsiness to put a long song first up on
the album.
And then "Conventional Wisdom" was a great pop song.
But the rest of the album sounded like rejects from Ancient Melodies
of the Future.
I've been on the list since maybe 2000. It was pretty quiet even when
I first joined...
Didn't realize you were from there, Chris.
But yeah, I guess there's a pretty good hunk of us over on the MM
list. People who might be reading this *right now*.

I just have to say that I am so jealous! I wanted to go to that festival so
bad! Wilco and BTS are two of my favourite bands, but I had just started
this new lob and had to stay in town. I did get to see Pearl Jam that
