Buckwheat Zydeco
Buck was a guest on Buffalo Bayou June 16 the day of his House of Blues Hollywood show. A real gentleman, and world class performer, Buck turns many country, rock and roll, and blues numbers into his own, as well as belting out some scorching originals. He's a musician and showman of the highest order, and still plays a mean keyboard in addition to the accordion.

Houston area zydeco calendar (zydecoevents.com)
Zydeco events calendar sponsored by the Blue and Gold Creole Zydeco Dance Society covers events for Houston, Texas and the surrounding areas to Beaumont, Orange, and Port Arthur... This link is the calendar of events, but you can navigate back to other pages such as "venues", the home page, and more. John Mooney
Mooney's interview was broadcast on Feb 4. He is an unforgettable performer who started out in Mendon, NY, was a friend of Son House's, and later moved to New Orleans, soon becoming a staple of the Crescent City's blues scene, and regular at Tipitina's.

Karmen Whitsett
This amazing vocalist (and lyricist) was hosted on the Buffalo Bayou not only because of her association with Bonne Musique Zydeco via Steve Guillory Sr, but also because of her impressive talents. Her recent performance at the VFW hall in Gardena, Ca. won Jake over. Some may already know Karmen from her pressence before in the Atlanta area or around the South Carolina 'triangle'. She can now frequently be seen performing with the Blues Stompers at "Steve's Barbeque" in Whittier, Ca.

Plains Bison
Originating in Eurasia but migrating to North America across the Bering land bridge during prehistoric times, the American bison thrived on the Great Plains, until the arrival of white settlers drove them to the brink of extinction. Although they once ranged across the Great Plains from Mexico to Canada, with numbers estimated at 60 million, today they exist primarily on game reserves and ranches, with estimated numbers of 200,000.

Queen Ida
The reigning Queen of Zydeco. This is one great lady, great zydeco artist, and inspiration. It was a real honor to have Queen Ida as a guest on the Buffalo Bayou program. Ida has played her great music all around the world, and is a grammy winning artist for best folk recording. Born in Lake Charles LA, raised in Beaumont, Texas, and as a resident of San Francisco's bay area, launched her career in zydeco in her forties, she has performed with the late "king of zydeco" Clifton Chenier, and Doug Kershaw among others. She is absolutely the Queen.

Terrance Simien
One of the great innovators in zydeco, Terrance was a guest on Buffalo Bayou for a live phone interview on May12 just prior to his performances at the 12th annual Redondo Beach Bayou Bash. When asked by Jake what three cd's he would pick to have were he stranded on an uncharted island, Simien chose "a Bob Dylan cd, a Taj Mahal cd, and a Tom Waits cd". His website is worth checking out, and the photo page features lots of notable friends. Simien's easy manner gives one indication of why he has so many.Terrance's most recent release is "Creole for Kids".
