Air guitar for sale on eBay
13/04/2004
Toby Earle
Spend a shade over $3 on eBay and you can purchase an air guitar, described
by the seller as a “majestic instrument”.
Purportedly an heirloom that has been bequeathed to family and friends for
decades, the guitar is alleged to have played an instrumental role during a
Led Zeppelin concert in Ohio.
The non-existent guitar, which is incapable of creating any noise no matter
how hard you strum the imaginary strings, has been deemed as solely suitable
for “hard-core fans who know the ways of an air guitar.”
The seller is aiming to cash in on prior eBay auctions where intangible
goods have been sold, which have included a jar of London air, someone’s
soul and someone’s dignity.
Winning bidders have either found the whole gag so amusing they’re prepared
to stump up to be part of it, or they’re determined to prove that old saying
about “fool”, “money” and “soon parted.”
This isn’t the first time an air guitar has been sold on eBay, as a previous
imaginary guitar failed to rise above the starting bid of $0.01.
Air instrument aficionados can bid if they fear being without an axe “when a
radically hellacious guitar solo breaks out”, but caveat emptor: The seller
neither mentions if the guitar is electric or acoustic, but most
importantly, if the guitar is right or left handed.
