I will go on Buglers Across America as you suggested. I have already been aked to play at 3 services in the coming weeks It took a liitle work from a local taylor to get me back in my Dress Blues so they look correct and have a good fit. I have not worn them for over 15 years. The one good thing is the Army is doing away with the Green Class A uniform and going back to the Blues for both daily and formal wear.

That's right. I just recently joined Bugles Across America. Today I was at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona to observe how the military memorial services are conducted. I was with a Disabled American Veteran Honor Guard Group who takes care of the funerals at this cemetery all month every third month. It has one regular bugler and one man who serves as a substitute. I was asked to audition playing Taps and was accepted as a second substitute bugler. I am not a Veteran but it certainly will be an honor to serve in this capacity. An observation that I made today at one of the memorial services; the only visible emotion displayed by the widow of the veteran was when Taps was being played.

I know that a while back many members of this group was wanting to help with playing at funerals but were haveing trouble getting the calls. I was invited by a family for their USMC son and had the chance to visit with the Marine Furneral director for the Kansas City area. This was my first time and I felt a great satisfaction in doing so. The comments from the Family, Marines, and American Legion personell was very positive. " No, it was not played perfect" After our visit I also contacted the US Army's Casualty Assistance Team, In my case Ft. Leavenworth, KS. They have put me on an email that will allow me to say yes or no to upcoming funerals where taps is to be played. I went out and visited with them in person a played the bugle to demonstrate knowledge. They are very pleased that they now have a contact with someone directly.
I encourage all who still wish to be a part of rendering honors at, as one of my former Commanding Officers says, "thier final mission". I encourage you to contact either funeral homes to find the numbers you need or I am sure that your local military recruiters. Good luck in your choosen missions. If I can be of assistace let me know. Also if you live in IA, KS, OK, Kansas City, MO area I may be able to help you.
