and now, here's a copy of our Luck-E-Letter for June 04:
Hey Everybody!
We made our debut at the 4-day Sacramento Jazz Jubilee held over the
Memorial Day Weekend, with 38 stages of live music and over 120 bands from
around the world. It was a ball running into our friends Stompy Jones, Sue
Palmer's Motel Swing Orchestra and Carl Sonny Leyland. At one point
pianists Sue Palmer, Steve Lucky & Carl Leyland delighted the crowd with a
piano orgy (the 3 of them playing piano at once). Big thanks to the many
radio DJs like Mick Martin from KXJZ in Sacramento and LesTarr of KMFB in
Mendocino, who support jazz and blues and give the Rhumba Bums some
air-time, and to music journalist Chris Macias for the nice feature in the
Sacramento Bee. We made lots of new fans (including a few 8 - 10 year old
girls who are convinced they want to be guitarists: shout-out to Sidney &
Amanda(?)), heard a lot of great music including the Mid-West All-Stars
featuring our sax-man Scott Petersen's good buddy bassist Paul Keller,
formerly of the Diana Krall trio. And the Bums managed to sneak on to
KXTV's 11 o'clock news (thanks to Adam Gottlieb for sending us a videotape).
This month we're excited to make our debut at Memories in Whittier down in
Southern Cal, and in our own backyard we return to the popular North Beach
Street Fair, but this year we're told we're on the "big stage"...we think
that means big fun. Stay Tuned for several special one-night-only shows in
July featuring Women In Blues, including Louisiana resident the legendary
Carol Fran.
Thanks for supporting Live Music!
