and Now...a copy of the LUCK-E-LETTER for FEBRUARY 05

Hey everybody,

January brought the 4th annual Boogie Woogie Piano Summit to Jazz at Pearls.
If you haven't been to Pearls lately - go check it out - they've got a new
menu which is getting rave reviews. Be sure to sign up for their emailing
list so you won't miss out on some of the incredible talent they're bringing
to the Bay Area. The Festival was sold out again this year, with piano fans
receiving a healthy dose of boogie from the incredible Carl "Sonny" Leyland,
and a rare appearance from Ann Arbor Michigan's Mark "Mr. B" Braun - look
for a new CD this Spring on Chesky records featuring Mr. B and other hot
jazz pianists including Monty Alexander and Eric Reed. Steve Lucky, Elvin
Bishop sideman S.E. Willis, Caroline Dahl, Wendy DeWitt and Dave Mathews all
wowed the crowd, playing solo and together. A highlight for many was the
"Star Spangled Boogie" by Eric Shifrin.

In January, Steve and Carmen performed in Zihuatanejo Mexico at a new venue
called the Blue Mamou. I can't recommend it enough. Zihuatanejo is a
quaint fishing village with very friendly, tranquilo people, a moderate
amount of tourism, but no giant hotels towering the beachfronts. It would
make an excellent vacation for the blues lover: swim, snorkel or visit the
bustling (with locals) centralle mercado by day, dig the blues (no cover
charge) at night, and consume delicious cheap food with the locals. We had
a ball performing with Berkeley resident Kenny Green on drums, Mexico City
native Alphonso Robledas on bass, and San Leandro native Jason Medeiros on
guitar. And you never knew when
guitarist/vocalist/entertainer-extraordinaire Jimi Mamou would take the
stage and bring the house down. The venue is owned by musicians and the
vibe is awesome, making the musicians feel totally comfortable and
translating to a good time for all. We jammed with brilliant guitarist Mike
Schermer and bassman Steve Erhman, who were performing the week after us.
The only downside is a highly contagious disease we weren't told about until
it was too late. We came down with, "extenditis", and had to change our
flights and hang out a bit longer. We might return in March or April - come
meet us down there!

Looking forward - we've got a few Valentine's shows coming up including the
Caspar Inn. Last year we played to a packed house and it was wild: crazy
decorations, sexy door prizes, and the locals getting DOWN! We've got a
rare Tuesday night show this month in San Francisco with a dance floor for
the Rhumba Bums on the 22nd. And in March we head down to Southern
California, and are still looking for a Saturday March 12 show - so hire the
band for your own private party! We've also recently confirmed a 4 day
Festival in the Netherlands May 5 - 8, and are looking for other dates in
Europe and the UK before and after.
