" I'd love to go to Holland, wooden shoe?"
~steve lucky
here's a copy of May's Luck-E-Letter:
Hello everyone,
If you were looking for the Rhumba Bums at some of our regular spots lately or you noticed there were only a few public shows in the last month, we have a good excuse. We've been putting the final touches on the audio portion of our soon-to-be-released CD, "Some Like It Hot". Now comes the fun part, putting together a striking (but no boxing blows to poor Steve) cover concept for "Some Like It Hot". We have some ideas, but maybe there's something we haven't thought of in the depths of your clever minds. (We realize we DO have a smarter and more creative than average group of fans). If your concept is chosen, we'll give you credit on the CD and some other perks. So drop us a line with your ideas!
But now back to our main endeavor, playing music for live audiences - and we've got some exciting shows coming up. This weekend the Rhumba Bums are thrilled to play a triple bill with original Doo-Woppers from the '50s, The Calvanes! While they recorded only a handful of singles, The Calvanes are part of Doo-Wop history. The band was formed while the fellas were still attending Manual Arts High School in South-Central Los Angeles, and they've been together on and off ever since.
We've got lots of outdoor concerts and festivals coming up this summer starting in May with the Lake Tahoe Jazz Festival, and then the world's largest traditional jazz festival, the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. Lots of bands from around the world perform, with Maria Muldaur headlining the SJJ, and Royal Crown Revue headlining the Lake Tahoe Festival. We're solidifying tour dates for the Mid-West in July, so tell your friends!
"I'd love to go to Holland, wooden shoe?" Yes, I would. Steve Lucky's been giving that old joke a work-out for years, and now we're finally making our debut there next week. We'll report as to whether or not Lucky appears in two-toned spectator wooden clogs. We return there again in August and September with a likely stop in Paris.
Hope to see you at a show!
