Luck-E-Letter June 05: Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums, Hammond Cheese Combo
Hey all,
We've got a whole lot of outdoor, all ages, free to the public festivals and concerts coming up - so come out, come out everywhere you are! We'll be in the Bay Area, the Mid-West and Southern Cal in the next month. Plus we've got shows again in Europe at the end of the summer - we're still got dates available in Europe if you know of any venues - let us know. And tell your friends in the Mid-West we're returning after a 5 year absence!
This past month we played our first folk festival, the Wild Iris Festival in Boonville CA, where Lucky joked to the audience that although many of the musicians in our band studied at prestigious jazz schools, Carmen & he met at Folk University, better known by it's nickname...Right...okay...it went over like a ton of bricks with THAT audience too. We also debuted at the prestigious 35th Annual Breda Jazz Festival in Holland, met and played with musicians from all over the world, and continued the jamming at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. Steve Lucky & Carl Leyland took the spot light at the Piano-rama, ending in a show-stopping 4-handed boogie-woogie at the beautifully renovated historic Crest Theatre. The Rhumba Bums performed 10 shows over the course of the weekend to some very enthusiastic audiences. This festival, reputed to be the largest traditional jazz festival in the world, really is a ball - there's something for everyone: kids stages, blues, dixieland, swing, samba, zydeco, ragtime, and new this year: modern jazz! Modern jazz, you know, music from the late '40s to present day...
Coming Up...our new CD "Some Like It Hot" is in the final artwork phase. By request from our fans, we'll be updating our website - adding new features like lots more photos, especially from the road. What else do you want to see? Any ideas for merchandise? Okay, we'll consider the "Come Out Swingin'!" brave-combo boxer shorts/undershirt.

blues and swing and lots of original tunes featuring Steve Lucky on piano &
vocals, Miss Carmen Getit on guitar & vocals, Scott Edog Petersen and Doug Rowan
on baritone, tenor & alto saxophones, Lukas Vesely on upright bass and a drummer.(sextet)
"CARMEN GETIT!", the band, is a quartet featuring Miss Getit on lead vocals and lead
guitar, Steve Lucky on piano and vocals, Lukas Vesely on upright bass and a drummer.
Original songs and covers in the ‘50s – ‘60s roots R & B and blues traditions .
The "STEVE & CARMEN SHOW" is a duet (unless due-ly noted) featuring Miss
Getit on vocals and guitar, and Steve Lucky on piano and vocals, performing
original songs and covers from the ‘20s – ‘60s in the roots R & B, blues and jazz
traditions. The quartet version features Lukas Vesely on the bass, and drums.
Steve Lucky’s "HAMMOND CHEESE COMBO" is a quartet featuring Lucky on the
Hammond B3 organ,Miss Carmen Getit on guitar, Scott Edog Petersen on
tenor saxophone, and drums cookin’ up original songs in the groovy soul-jazz tradition
& kooky ‘60s sounds.
