Luck-E-Letter July 05 : Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums, Carmen Getit!, Hammond Cheese Combo
Hey there,

Come join us for an intimate show at Biscuits & Blues in San Francisco (seems the Rhumba Bums perform there about twice a year - so don't miss it!), or at dance concerts at Rancho Nicasio's supper club this Saturday and the Ashkenaz in Berkeley.  We make debuts at the 27th Annual Twain Harte Summer Festival, the Duncans Mills 21st Annual Festival of Art & Wine on the Russian River, and a free outdoor concert in Windsor on the town green.

We just got back from several shows in the Mid-West, where we opened up for the fabulous Marcia Ball at the beautiful Morton Arboretum near Chicago, and headlined our own shows afterwards at Molly Malones (great food!) just outside Chicago, then 3 nights at the Oneida Casino in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  Marcia and her band made a surprise appearance at Molly Malones where Marcia sat in with the Rhumba Bums, belting out a groovy New Orleans tune and then bringing down the house with a 4-handed boogie woogie with Steve Lucky.  Another guest that night was former Rhumba Bums' bass player Lorenzo Farrell.  He happened to be in Chicago with Little Charlie & the Night Cats, who Carmen sat in with the night before at Buddy Guy's - singing and trading guitar licks with the HOT Charlie Baty.  Big thanks to the brothers of Vero Amps (veroamps.com), who brought one of their custom amps for Carmen to play after she dug the sound Charlie Baty got with his rig.

We no sooner returned from the Mid-West when we headed to the mountains for our debut at the 4 day Mammoth Lakes Jazz Festival.  Our shows were packed and we heard lots of great music including New Orleans-based pianist/vocalist Tom Hook & the Black Dogs - who Steve Lucky sat in with.  These guys lay down the New Orleans R & B and really know how to get an audience going.

A festival we were scheduled to play in Holland the first week of September was just cancelled, and at least 21 bands which were booked are now available.  We'll still be going to Europe and performing at the rest of our scheduled dates, but if you have any ideas, pass them along!

Now stay tuned for our upcoming shows:
