We certainly hope this summer is treating you well and that you’re having a little time for some fun.  If you haven’t fulfilled your summer fun quota yet, please let us assist you with a few ideas for musical merriment in the next couple of months.   Like, for instance, how about the full-on Rhumba Bums’ show at the best place to hear us in San Francisco, Biscuits and Blues on Friday, August 1^st?  As you may know, this award-winning nightclub has a great relaxed intimate atmosphere, great sight lines to the stage, and fantastic food to boot.  So, what’s stopping you?

 

We return to Sunnyvale after a long hiatus to inaugurate the new incarnation of the legendary Wednesday Night Hop with Trevor Gattis at the Starlite Dance Club on August 6^th.  We’re honored to be a part of this grand celebration with the best swing dancing on the peninsula or about anywhere else!

 

On Sunday August 10, we’re excited to be performing at the Burlingame Art & Jazz Festival.  This is a really fun free outdoor street festival with all the trappings……great food, free music, arts & crafts, who could ask for anything more?

 

And then on Wednesday August 13^th we finally get back to our regular Wednesday night gig at Bing Crosby’s in Walnut Creek.  If you haven’t made it out to one of these early evening shows, you gotta make it!  Bing’s has a nice dance floor, free dance lessons with the San Francisco Jitterbugs, great food, (a great band!), and it’s FREE!   Don’t ask me how they do it folks, just take advantage of this opportunity before they get wise to it.  And we’ll be there on the 20^th and 27^th too, so come on down!

 

Let’s make it official……(more about Steve and Carmen’s official status later)….Our ‘new’ CD, “Some Like It Hot” is officially out, released, finished and hot and ready for your CD player.  So let’s have a party!  A CD release party at our local home for dancing and all-out Berkeley-ness, the Ashkenaz on Friday August 15^th.  We’ll be selling “Some Like It Hot” at a huge discount that evening (only $10 - this evening only) so this is your chance to come save a lot of money for all the birthday and holiday gifts you need to buy this year!  If you haven’t been there,  let me tell you it has one of the biggest and best dance floors around, some good food and drink, and an amazing array of  musical and community activism posters reflecting the glorious history of the Ashkenaz and Berkeley’s vanguard of the left.  No political affiliation necessary…..

 

Thursday, August 21 we’ll be at the historic Top of the Mark in San Francisco subbing for our friends Stompy Jones.

 

Then we return to Southern California for a free outdoor concert in Carlsbad on Friday, August 22.  Last time we were there we had a blast performing for 4000 people in a lovely setting.  Carmen has graced the cover of their local magazine, so look for it!  Then we’ll be back in Pasadena at the wonderful Pasadena Ballroom Dance Association’s great Saturday night dance parties on August 23rd.  But wait, what about a CD release party in Southern Cal?  We know you can’t all come up to Berkeley, so let’s have a CD release party at our former home, the world-famous Derby in Hollywood on Sunday August 24^th.  We’ll be selling “Some Like It Hot” at a huge discount that evening (only $10 - this evening only) so this is your chance to come save a lot of money for all the birthday and holiday gifts you need to buy this coming year!  Haven’t we heard that somewhere before?

 

Wow, wow, wow….the Hammond Cheese Combo is making one of its’ far-too-rare performances at the Gordon Biersch Brewery in San Jose on Thursday August 28.  We’ll have Mr. Johnny Bones playing Tenor sax with us that night and it’s gonna be pretty cool and pretty hot too……!

 

In September there’s too much to go into detail for right now, but look for Steve Lucky at Mitch Wood’s Boogie Woogie BBQ at Rancho Nicasio on Sept 1, a return to the new, improved River Rock Casino for the Lucky Quartet, the Kendall-Jackson Heirloom Tomato Festival, a debut at Yoshi’s in Oakland, and a great new dance venue in Sausalito, The Stage Dor.  Following are some details……..

 

But first, Monique Rose is very happy to announce the marriage of her parents, Steve Lucky and Mrs. Carmen Getit!  The happy event took place on the shores of Lake Michigan in Traverse City MI on July 26.  Steve Lucky was dressed in a beautiful white gabardine suit fashioned by our friend Al of Al’s Attire in SF, Carmen wore a ‘50s era off-white dress reworked by our friend Connie of Walkershaw Clothing in Noe Valley, and Monique wore a cotton eyelet dress designed by Connie, which was made from a skirt Carmen’s mother made for her own honeymoon in 1951.  It was an amazing event, officiated by Steve’s former drummer and best pal, the Most Reverend Marc Russell and entertainment was provided by Detroit’s Johnnie Bassett and the Blues Insurgents plus special guest artist, the amazing vocalist Betty Joplin (formerly of the Mercer Ellington band).  It was an absolutely stunningly beautiful day and a fan#%*&^*!tastic party!
