Sum sum sum summertime!  The days are finally getting longer so it’s time to stop hibernating!  Rise up and find your place amongst the swingin throngs!  What?  OK, how about “Come on out and see a show and have some fun”?   Yeah, that’s better……  We’ve got lots of free outdoor shows, great festivals and dances for the Rhumba Bums and more Hammond Cheese Combo shows than ever!  There are plenty of you out there who we haven’t seen in a long time (YOU know who you are) and we think it’s high time to come out and say howdy!

 

We’re thrilled to be part of the Monterey Bay Blues Festival this year with an incredible lineup including lots of great women like Trudy Lynn, Barbara Morrison, Denise LaSalle, Leah Tysse and giants like The Neville Brothers, Jeffrey Osborne (On the Wings of Love), Clarence Carter, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, and so much more!  Come on out, it’s a great festival site. 

 

The Bums return for our 12^th appearance at the North Beach Festival in San Francisco on June 14^th.  For no charge you can take in a couple stages of music, and you heard it right, get your favorite pet blessed (wow) – check out these photos: Assisi Animal Blessings .

 

We’ve also got a rare appearance in Palo Alto, when we return to the Twilight Concert Series on June 16^th at Mitchell Park.  We played this years ago and it was packed and wild with absolutely all ages attending.   We’re happy to return to our own backyard for a dance concert at the Ashkenaz in Berkeley on Friday June 19^th, with a new starting time of 9 pm to accommodate the early-to-bed-early-to-risers.  And speaking of dance concerts, we’re returning to the historic Eastern Star Ballroom in Sacramento on Friday June 26^th for an all ages show with a huge dance floor.  And it’s back to Marin County for a debut at the Marin Arts Festival on June 21^st  for a day of swing with the awesome vocalist Denise Perrier appearing (we hope!!!!) with Swing Fever, as well as a rare appearance by Lee Press-On & the Nails!

 

Lucky & Getit are having fun duet-ing it in Walnut Creek at Bing Crosby's.  You never know who will show up, like last Friday Adrian Belew (King Crimson, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Tom Tom Club, Paul Simon + more), who came up and said hello and inspired the crowd into some illegal dance moves.  We're got just one more show there so far this Friday June 5th.

 

If you’ve got a hankering for some Hammond Cheese Combo, tonight, weather permitting, we’ll return to Gordon Biersch Brewery in San Jose.  And if you’re feeling an itch to get out of town, we’re bringing the Combo back to Moody’s in Truckee for two nights June 12th & 13^th.  Great place located at the historic Truckee hotel – awesome food and great ambiance, from the owner of former SF nightspot, the Up and Down Club.  And the Hammond Cheese debuts at the Poorhouse Bistro in San Jose on June 20^th.

 

The Baby Corner:  Okay - you've asked for updates on the newest Rhumba Bum, so we oblige:  Monique is over 2 ˝ years old now and made quite a splash last weekend at the Sacramento Jazz Festival.  She got up on stage for some dancing with Daddy and brought the house down.  The next day our friends Niki & David who were babysitting asked if she wanted to play guitar on stage with mommy and she ran to the stage, grabbed her ukulele and jumped up next to mommy, and then tried to play behind her head when mom did.  I’ll post photos on our new band facebook.com page soon.   Days later Steve had a solo gig, and Monique asked where daddy was.  I told her he was playing solo, explaining that meant he’s playing without the band, just piano and singing.  Monique replied “When I grow up I do ‘dat. And mommy do dat too.”  So I guess the stakes have been set.  (…we just have to wait for Mommy to grow up…)
