Hey, has anyone here ever heard of the Matthew Good Band? These guys
have been huge in Canada for a long time now and have finally
released their first cd in the states, Beautiful Midnight. You've
probably been seeing Hello Time Bomb on MTV2 and hearing it on the
radio. If you're looking for a band that puts out amazing alt-rock
music, w/o most of the cheap bells and whistles of most one hit
wonders today, give Matthew Good Band a listen. For more info (bio,
pics, vis, etc) check out www.matthewgoodband.com. Thanks for your
time...

  Hey "Coldfan"

I really enjoyed Cold's performance on "FarmClub" last night.
I had never heard of Cold or the show.... "FarmClub" - not a big tv
  watcher...

Thanks for telling us about the show and Cold.
I enjoyed them..... especially their bass player. (wild!) very cool

How many albums has Cold put out?

RIght on Yeah they were really good ON farmclub. COld has 2 albums out,
the first one was realeased in 98 (self TItiled) and the New album (1 ways
to bleed on stage) was just put out last tuesday. The New album is really
amazing, I think it over all is much better than the first album, however if
you really get into COLD I would Definetly get the First album also, It has
some really great songs on it. The only down side about the first album is
the Production, but it has some really good material on it, especially the
slower songs... If you missed Them on Farmclub or if you saw them and
want to see anorher song they did from the show click here- you may need to

Cold - 13 Ways To Bleed On Stage
©2000, Cold, Flip/Geffen
Cold have shed the shackles of the sophomore release jitters with pride and
have gracefully reinvented themselves on this jaw dropping record that is
filled with vibrant textural sounds and skilled musicianmanship. Gut
wrenching vocals and twisted organic guitars scrape out stylish riffs that
wither within the listeners ear, while moving basslines lead the explosive
drums and incredible array of countless electronic sounds into a bleak vision
of life and love. While the band was pure and raw sounding on their first
album, they have now latched firmly onto a bevy of effects and proceed to
literally tear a hole in the wall of sonic experimentation, creating what
could be described as an auditory meltdown of aggressive emotion.

Vocally, Scoot is flawless, sounding like a cross between Staind and Bush,
his moody and mildly husky voice croons out soul crushing vocals that
instantly hook deep within and don't let up. His ability to stretch out tones
and build up to elevating choruses is uncanny and if anything his performance
on this disc truly shows just how talented his bruised and battered verbal
torment is and how captivating a lyrical performance can be. From his sullen
wails of betrayal to his heated loathing bellows, its hard not to be taken
back by the dark energy he exudes. An addition of some female backup vocals
and the guest appearance from Staind's Aaron Lewis also add depth and are
used sparsely enough to make it seem inherently natural, which is by no means
an easy feat to accomplish as far as guest performers go. Guitars can range
from serene acoustic strums to throbbing effect softened plucks that glide
like buzzing whispers in the background and in an instant, all but swerve off
course to plunge headfirst into driving distorted growls that propel the
songs forward at a meteoric pace and yet all the while maintain a modest
integrity that makes them feel like a perfect fit. Bass is slightly downtuned
and hums out bottom heavy grooves that interlace smoothly with the deft
percussion and establish a large sounding lowend rumble that focuses heavily
on looming riffs and growly buildup. Drums shower the tracks with brittle
snare work and offbeat rolls that add an unconventional timing to the songs,
keeping things unpredictable. Perhaps the most noticeable addition to the
band on this album though is the seductive way in which effects and various
extra instruments are used, from "She Said's genius inclusion of piano to the
spacey effect laden audio rainbow that is "Sick Of Man", the band has
fearlessly jumped into uncharted territory and triumphantly returned doused
with an invigorating new dimension of aural experimentation.

Cold's first album may not have taken the group to the heights they expected
to reach, but it still stands as an intoxicating glimpse into a desolate
gloomy world of uncut emotion. This album builds upon those principals and
takes them to a whole new level with eclectic instrumentation, hooky melody
and a showcase of soul and depravity that literally spills all over the dense
soundscapes created. Through speakers alone this record is a testament to
compelling songwriting and intelligent experimentation, but when experienced
through headphones the subtleties and sultry nature of it all wind up making
everything even more impressive. Cold's chilly musical expression is both
creative and touching as their restrained and intelligent musical
articulation hits home harder than any of the bands who play loud music just
because they can ever will. These factors and so much more make this album an
instant classic that will all but make your speakers bleed with a somber
assertiveness that hasn't even come close to being achieved by any other band
in recent memory. Without a doubt this is a definite must have for anyone who
is sick of constant meaningless aggression and seeks something that is both
charmingly tactful and viciously cathartic.

I'm sure you're all sick of hearing from me already and
want this all to blow over. I admit, some of the stuff
I said yesterday came out totally wrong. I let out my
emotions more then I should have, and came off
sounding pretty nasty. I apologize for anyone who took
what I said the wrong way.

I do not hate Bush. I never could and I never will. I
know they are not perfect, no one is. Maybe it was
Bush who decided the 18+ thing, maybe it was their
management. I don't know. I would like to find out
though, before I jump to any more conclusions.

As some of you may know, The Glass House usually
does not have an age limit on their shows unless the
band requests it. A friend of mine called the Glass
House yesterday to confirm this. Some of you may bring
up the fact that Bush (or their management, or
whoever) did this for everyone's safety. I don't agree
with that. You'll see the same amount of drinking,
smoking, etc., at any rock concert. A stadium concert
can be just as dangerous as a performance at a club.
The age limit has hurt a lot of S. Californian Bush
fans like myself. It was inconsiderate of AmBUSH to
create excitement when maybe half the people couldn't
go anyway. Everyone should know that maybe half of the
bush fans are under 18, may they be Gavin lovers or
True Hard Core Bush fans. It does hurt.

The reason I am doing this is so next time Bush (or
their management of course) decides to put an age
limit on a concert somewhere, they'll think of this.
Of how it makes some people feel. That is my whole
point to
doing this. I'm not some bitter underaged teenager
who wants to ruin this for everyone. I know I'll
(hopefully) get my chance to see them play.

If you agree with the fact that age limits are unfair,
please send me a letter. Send me
anything, a letter, your signiture, or just a sentence
about how you feel about it. I'll get it to someone
important. I'm writing my own calm and collected
letter about this. If you don't agree with me, that's fine.
I'll respect your opinion.

A more calm, angry person :),

song interpretations
--------------------
A Tendency to Start Fires

this is one of those songs that truly grabs
you and leaves you asking for more. I was actually surprised that Bush
did not turn it into a single and video. Many of its ideas are
incorporated into the design of the Razorblade Suitcase album
cover/lyric booklet. I believe that the driving force behind the song is the
desire for one to act out upon impulses. However, in time, one may suffer
consequences or have regrets about their actions. Another way to
interpret this is, think first and try to consider the
outcome/consequences of your actions before you committ them. Again, when
you break down the song
into smaller pieces, this theme becomes much clearer.

The first half of verse one shows confusion and frustration building up
("Strange zoo, strange blaze, douse my head in flames.") and states that
he wants to act on it ("Coming through got to get some"). "Strange zoo"
and "strange blaze" are the confusion. They then become frustration/rage
in "douse my head in flames". It is now this rage that is "coming
through" and he wants to act on it, hence "got to get some". However, he
warns us that "Happiness is a bad son". This is saying that the happiness
he hopes to achieve by acting on his rage is not necessarily right.

The second half of verse one operates in a similar fashion. Here, the
image created is of someone acting on the rage by making a destructive
devise. Acting on the rage gives a temporary feeling of satisfaction
("Feel better when you're here"). Yet again, we are given another warning
that serious consequences can result ("Guillotine just got here"). Verses
two and three work in the same manner. They both reinforce the desire
and/or acting out of the impulse, then give a warning of realization.

The pre-chorus ("Leaning to fire,...") and chorus ("Here's Tomorrow
Man,...") tie the whole piece together. "Leaning to fire" is the desire
to act upon those impulses and "Tomorrow Man" is that same person in the
future. Bush then very creatively puts the pieces of the puzzle together
with the continuation of the chorus ("best of my ability, chasing what I
can,...chasing watercans"). What is being implied here is that in the
future, one will be "chasing watercans", or what they can, to put out the
fires that were started as a result of their previous actions. The fires
are the problems caused by and/or results of the actions. Essentially,
this is saying that you reap what you sow. It is also saying that in the
future you will be working to the "best of your ability/civility" to fix
   the resulting consequences.

The interlude ("With our own tongue") is more difficult to interpret.
However, in context with this theme I believe that it is reverting to the
beginning. It can be taken as someone saying, "I know what I'm doing; I
won't let things get carried away". Then it goes back to the future and
chorus where it is now clear that things did get out of hand. With this
in mind, we can then try to speculate what got out of hand, because
whatever it may be is the process of "Leaning to fire". Therefore, "A
Tendency to Start Fires" can mean starting to become involved in something
dangerous and/or beginning to act upon the impulses. For example, if you
take drugs to mean "Leaning to fire", then drugs are the "tendencies" that
start your "fires" (problems).

Another difficult line is "and I am century", which is sung in the
chorus/outro. This could be taken in two ways. He could be saying that
he is old to the situation, meaning that this is something he constantly
goes through. He could also be using the word "century" to mean guard.
In this case he would be saying that he alone is responsible for his
actions and guard over his own life and situations.

Two other interesting details, which are subject to individual
interpretation, come in the intro and the printed lyrics. First, one can
see the crescendoing intro as the confusion that turns into the
rage/confusion. Finally, notice how "Tendency" is printed in the lyric
booklet. The word "End" is emphasized. I believe this could mean that
the results of one's "Tendency to Start Fires" may ultimately lead to
   their end.

This was the 2nd show for Bush in the States...and what a show it turned
out to be. This was the first Bush show for me and my 4 other friends. We
got ourselves to the front of the 500+ on the floor and was literally smashed
into the security bar. Me & and best friend had a hand full of roses just for
maybe a second one of the guys would flutter a glance our way. Finally at 9:10
pm the lights dimmed...the stage filled with smoke and Winstons growl
overpowered the speakers as the crowd of 10,123 rose to their feet. I started
my tape recorder and pulled out my camera as 4 figures walked beyond the
fading smoke and into their places and ripped into 'A Tendency to Start
Fires'. At one point on Gavin's guitar take he glanced toward us
pointed...waved and smiled!! The first song to get the most cheers that night
was 'Machinehead' a truly terrific guitar song. One point someone from the
audience threw a t-shirt to Gavin. He picked it up and looked at it.It was a
Toadies shirt..he stuck out his tongue and threw it back!! After 'Cold
Contagious' Dave, Nigel, and Robin walked from the stage and Gavin said 'I
guess its just us now...this song is about traveling around the world'and he
played 'Bonedriven'. Next of course was the long awaited 'Glycerine' and the
arena filled with lighters. 2 songs later was 'Bomb' and during this Gavin
took advantage of the side stages. He motioned the top level to come down.
After the song he said 'What I was trying to do..is I saw all those people and
I cant believe how f!$#%& way up this thing goes..gets me dizzy so maybe
they'll find a to bring you do so you can kind of see us better...We must look
like f!#$*& ants! hhaaha we are..we are ants yeah well...This is the song
that started everything for us really and it goes something like this..' and
they started 'Everything Zen' and Gavin bounces to the Microphone and shouts
'I cant hear you!! I cant f$#!^* hear you!!' During this song 2 cool things
happened Peter Black came out with a video camera and fimed the audience and
Gavin sexually pumped the amp. Next was the 5 minute encore and the crowd
chanted everything from 'Gavin' to 'Bush to 'USA'. Which was awfully weird.
After the encore they played 'Swallowed'....'Broken Tv' and the closing song
for that evening was 'Little things'. After the song Robin jumped from behind
his drum set and picked up a hat someone threw and kicked it into the air and
it hit Gavin in the face as he teared away his guitar strings. They said
goodnight and walked away.

bush question of the week
-------------------------
-question
do you have a bushy new year's resolution?

-answers
DO YOU THINK BUSH IS LOSING THEIR POPULARITY?

-i don't think they lost their fans but it has been a while since their last
album But i believe any true Bush fan will never die in their love for Bush.
So anyone who did lose interest should regret it for they are the best!!!
   *ExoticIvy7@...*
-I don't think that bush is losing their popularity, they are just taking some
time off. It is like any artist who doesn't have brand new material out, of
course the fans won't be as enthusiastic, but they are definitely still there.
I am a little disappointed though in some of the bush fans on the Internet
because they have given up on things like zines, pages and stories that are
related to Bush. I think that a lot of those people are really hypocritical
because they were the ones who would chew everybody else out for liking Bush
because of a certain guy in the band instead of the material. Then they just
abandon bush stuff just because they don't have brand new stuff out. That is
the worst. I have a great respect for the people who are still putting out the
zines, especially this zine and Mouth Digest, because they do it on a
daily/weekly basis, even though Bush isn't active right now. They are the true
fans for sticking with the band even when they aren't at the top of the
charts. Laura
   *(NMALAMUD@...)*
-it's obvious that a band with no new material out for a couple of years will
not stay on the top 20 charts but as far as bush being "dead" hell no. they're
still rocking and getting some airplay with their old stuff, but as soon as
the science is out they will back in full effect y0.

BUSH POSITIVE
By: EVTGZEN@...

The Voices Unheard
Beauty and grace you so humbly hold
All of my secrets you have foretold
Out of my mind the thoughts they drift
But when I'm with you it seems nothing I've missed
Grateful I am for what you've shown
Words that my heart's forbidden to own
You've revealed a treasure I never thought I'd see
Soft faded words your soul whispers to me
Your poems, so real I wonder how this could be
You've expressed what I thought was only known to me
Searching for the shadow from which you've come
Without you my soul still would be numb
Darkness and depth must have hidden you well
If you hadn't shown your light I'd still be under the spell
That has captured so many young voices unheard
Waiting to be set free by those magical words
Screaming inside, small voices each unique
Thinking we were alone, and when alone we seem weak
Ignored and abandoned, our only choice was to hide
All of the emotions and expression locked away inside
In a blind world you were the only one with eyes
Eyes bright enough to pierce through the dark sky
You knew we all had something special in our hearts
Wanting to break free but not knowing where to start
We all held precious emotions we didn't know were so strong
We each were alone until you came along
With you we have found a true identity
Nothing to hide, we want all to see
Separate from others, no longer on our own
Together we have torn down the barrier of stone
Now free to believe in a love so deep
No more tears, no longer do we have to weep
A brilliant light shines on us all
We each had our struggle, we've conquered the fall
Now on to a new life of happiness and peace
Given your faith we no longer hide emotions beneath
On our own never would we be heard
No one would listen to our meaningful words
Together we have found each is alike
And if we combine there is only one thing in sight
A tremendous number of people the same
All having one reason for which we've came
To join as one force representing the voices unheard
We teach each other and together we learn
There's nothing to fear now that we have this power
To believe in ourselves in our most desperate hour
Now that we're one, nothing can break the bond
What we share will truly live on
Each will savour this time together we share
Many years from now the hour glass still will be there
Holding the sand that from afar looks as one
But upclose and with the beams from the sun
Each small grain so unique, is revealed by the light
Weathered and shaped by their own storm in the night
Inside those precious crystals that so brightly shine
Each holds a story, I know yours and you know mine
For we've all transformed with the love of these men We share gratitude too
great to even begin
To repay you for the moments, so wonderful we wish we could relive
The days when we gave each other all we had to give Impossible as that may
seem
The stories will live inside us all proving this wasn't a dream
As long as we keep these special memories alive in our mind
Nothing can erase them, they will stand forever in time.

BUSH - Have they lost it?
-------------------------

The fever began back in late 1994, early 1995 with the release of Sixteen
Stone from an utterly unknown baby band known as Bush. It's continued although
not so wide spread, or so we think. Bush is still an incredibly popular band,
maybe not as popular as some of us older fans remember, with Everything Zen
being played on the radio every five minutes. Perhaps the release of The
Science of Things next year will bring the band back to it's former glory that
they achieved with Sixteen Stone. But why did these fans from 1994 and 1995
ditch the band that they said they loved after their second studio effort,
Razorblade Suitcase, was released in November of 1996? Many former fans said
that Razorblade Suitcase wasn't the heavy Seattle grunge sounds that they
loved on Sixteen Stone. When asked if they even had Razorblade Suitcase, or
bought it when it came out and then got rid of it, most said no. A few said
that when they heard Swallowed on the radio they knew that the rest of the
album would sound the same, and that Bush had, well frankly, lost it. But most
of us know that Greedy Fly, Insect Kin, and A Tendancy to Start Fires are
indeed reminiscant of the guitar laiden tracks of Sixteen Stone. Some former
fans didn't like Deconstructed so they jumped the boat in November of 1997.
But they would have known that that was just an experimental disc if they
would have read anything on it. People are allowed to try different things and
I stuck with Bush when they wanted to try working with people that they
repect. But the critics, no one can explain them.
They hated them even when Bush sold more than 250,000 copies of Razorblade
Suitcase in its first week of release. "We didn't need them to have people
like us, and I think that they hated that," Gavin said of the media. They
called Bush a "one hit wonder" when Everything Zen debuted in 1994 but here we
are going into 1999 with a new album due on record stores' dusty shelves in
Febuary and Bush are still going strong. Five years can do a lot, the only
thing it's done to Bush is launch them into superstar status. As Nigel put it,
"Twelve million fans can't be morons, we can't tell them how to feel or what
to buy." People are entitled to their own opinion, but bands are also allowed
to change over time. In my opinion Bush still haven't lost it, and they won't
for a long time to come.

local bush
----------
this is a new section where you e-mail me about your city and tell me
if bush is popular there and if the radio stations in your area play
a lot of bush. send all contributions to bushfreak@...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I live in Portland, OR and since I started listening to the alternative and
hard rock stations NRK and KUFO two years ago, I've noticed that Bush's
popularity has definitely decreased. They used to play Bush constantly, on
both stations, songs from both albums, up until last spring. In the winter,
they played the Mouth Remix sometimes up to 4 times a day, it was crazy, and
everyone would call the radio station asking where they could find the radio
version of the song. That was pretty much the last time I remember people
talking about Bush -- things have definitely died down since then, and I'm
lucky if I hear one Bush song a day, and extremely lucky if they play
something from Razorblade Suitcase. But I'm sure (I hope) all that will
change when the new album comes out.

-NIK14CHICK@...

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Bush is not the most popular band here in Harrisburg, PA. In fact it's
pretty tough to find a true bush fan. Once in awhile I hear a bush song
on the radio but not very often. The station I listen to the most is
105.7 X. They play pretty rockin music but not nearly enough bush to
keep me happy. Lucky for me I found a few true bush fans in my school but
all the rest are gavin lovers. Some good bands are popular here but they are
new bands. They will probably be "out of style" soon anyway. Most people
only like pop music like Hanson and N'Sync. It's pretty rough living with a
lack of Bush.

--CONCERT REVIEWS--
Las Vegas, NV @ Thomas & Mack Center - June 1

Bush / Veruca Salt / Souls
The Thomas & Mack Center 6-1-1997
Las Vegas, Nevada
Reviewed - 6-7-1997

I Arrived In Las Vegas On May 31st After A Seemingly Short Flight From New
Orleans Through Dallas. The Second Leg Was Made Rather Short
By The Movie, Jerry McGuire, Which Is A Chick Flick By Most, And My,
Standards, But Still An Excellent Movie Which Held My Attention For Its 2+
Hours.
I Got There Around 8:30, Got My Rental Car, And Had This Brilliant Idea To
Immediately Get To The MGM Grand And Catch The 10:30 Performance Of
There Feature Show, EFX, Starring Washed Up 70s Idol, David Cassidy.
For The $70 It Costed Me, I Was Expecting Something Incredible, Like Jesus
Christ To Meet And Greet Everyone Who Walked Into The Theater! It Didn't
Happen And After It, I Had Not Only Wasted 90 Minutes Of My Time, But
Wasted
It On A Show That Had No Real Story Line, No Modernism In The Music Or
Costuming, And Not Even A Drink Included Within The Ticket Price Like
All The Other Shows! To Get To The Point, The Following Night, I Paid $26.50
For My Bush Ticket, And Got Three Times The Time On The Clock, And Ten
Times The Entertainment! Ain't It Amazing!
Anyways, Fast Forward To Sunday-
After A Less Than 5 Minute Ride From My Hotel, The MGM Grand, I Arrived
At The Thomas And Mack Center On The Campus Of UNLV. I'd Been There
Once Before For A Hockey Game, But Never To A Concert There. It Was
Cool To See A Number Of Local Radio Stations Setup Outside, Plus A Small
Stage That A Few Local Bands Had Played On For Early Arrivers At The
Show.

The Arena Had Prepared A Lovely Security Check At The Door, But Without A
Hand Laid On Me Thanks To My Well-Dressed Self, I Cruised Right On In.
I Had Excellent Seats, Just Off The Floor, About Six Rows Off Of It, Nearly
Dead Center, On Nigel's Side. It Was My First Bush Show To Sit
On Nigel's Side. I've Always Been On Dave's Side, The Right, For Some
Strange
Reason!
And While I'm Near The Subject Of The Arena, I'll Go On. As Apparently With
Most Concerts At The Fairly Spacey T&M Center, They Only Use About 3/4
Of The Arena, So It Becomes A Small Intimate Theater Like Experience With
Everything Behind The Stage, Which Is About 3/4 Back On The Floor, Closed
Off With A Giant Curtain. But Despite The Theater Like Setting And The Fact
That Everywhere I've Seen Bush, They've Packed The Places, From 22,000 In
Kansas City To 5,500 In New Orleans, Las Vegas Was
Practically Empty! The Lower Level And Floor Were Filled All Around, But The
Second Level Couldn't Have More Than 100 People In It, Maximum! I Couldn't
Believe It. Fortunately, The Band Showed Me A lot By Not, Like Some Bands,
Acting Like Jerks Because Of The Empty Seats. In Fact, They Played One Of
The Better Shows I've Seen And Treated The Lucky 5000 Or
So Who Came Out, To A Rare Performance Of REM's The One I Love!
Back To The Show, Around 6:40 I Ran To The Bathroom To Get My Recorder
Setup And Then Returned To My Seat To Wait For Souls.
In Summary, From Someone Who Thinks They Know A Little About Music,
The Souls Are Completely Worthless And Have Exactly Nothing They Could
Potentially Add To The Music World. Their Tired, Monotonous, Slow, Grinding
Metal Melodies Get Old Fast As Every Song Sounded Alike, Plus I Haven't
Been Entertained By Someone Screaming The Word 'F-ck' Over And Over
Again Since The Age Of Nine. I Was Further Amused By The Lead Singer Who
Spent The
Last Five Minutes Of Their Set Moaning, Bumping, And Grinding By Herself To
An Orgasmic Peak, As She Screamed F-ck Me, Or Something Of That Nature,
Over And Over Again. Souls Isn't Completely Talentless Though As There Lead
Singer Has A Great Voice, But Unfortunately, That Alone Cannot Redeem There
Poor Act. If You Have The Opportunity To Skip Souls, By All Means, Do So.
Veruca Salt Hit The Stage About 20 Minutes After The Souls Departed At
About 7:50. The Usual Flanger Induced Ringing Of Shutterbug Started Another
Great Set By Them, Highlighted By More Chit-Chat Than I've Ever Heard From
Them! It All Started After I'm Taking Europe With Me When Louise Said "This
Sure Is A Far Cry From Huntridge!" Which Is A Theater The
Band Had Played Previously In Vegas. After Awesome, Louise Introduced The
Remainder Of The Band, Nina, Steve, And The Latest Edition, Stacey, Who
Replaced Former Drummer Jim Shapiro. Louise Spoke Again Before Straight
Telling Us The Song Was Dedicated To All The Girls In The Building Who Had
Boyfriends Who Smoked Too Much Pot. Seether Came After Straight. It Still
Had The Cool Slow Intro, And Finally, Yes Finally, A Few People Caught
On Before The Chorus And Electric Part Came In.
After Earthcrosser, Louise Asked "Is Everyone Doing Okay? / Is Everyone
Doing Better Than Okay? / Is Everyone Doing Better Than Ezra? /Is Everyone
Doing Better Than Reznor? / I Thought So!" That Led Into Shimmer Like A Girl
And That Cool Little Riff That Is The Chorus And
Bridge. And For The First Time In My Four Shows, Louise And Nina Took
Advantage Of The Raised Portions Of The Right And Left Sides Of The Stage
To Run Atop These To Tease The Audience, Who Was Especially Lively On
The Right Side For
Louise.
47 Minutes After They Started, Veruca Salt Finished Up With Just Louise And
Stacey Left On Stage Banging Away At The Final Riff Of
Shimmer Like A Girl!

Shutterbug/ I'm Taking Europe With Me/Awesome/ Spiderman/

9:23. The Lights Fall, The Intro Starts Up, The Crowd Moves To Its Feet. And
First Up, A Few Song By Song Notes From My Scribblings I
Made During The Show.

A Tendency To Start Fires- I Didn't Even Hear The Intro, Either They Didn't
Play It Or The Soundboard Wasn't Feeding The On Stage Bit To The Stacks
Over The Intro Music. My Guess Would Be The Latter. And While The Song Is
My Favorite From RS, It Just Doesn't Get Me, Or The Crowd, Going The Way
Some Of The Others, Like Machinehead Would, As The Opener.

Machinehead- Gavin's Guitar Hadn't Stopped Feeding Back When Nigel Moved
Into Machinehead. It Was The First Time I'd Noticed The Really Cool Mirror
Ball Stars On The Ceiling Lighting Effect Used During The Song By The Band.

Greedy Fly- Again The Lights Caught My Attention- During The Choruses,
Some White Search Light Type Lights, On The Floor Of The Stage, Scan
The Floor Crowd Offering A Really Cool Visual Effect In The Seats, Especially
Since The Effect Occurs When There Are No Lights Used On The
Band.

Insect Kin- The Lights, Again! The Tornado Like Swirling Light Coming From
Behind The Drum Kit During The Slower Parts, And Then The Multiple
Ones Coming Out Into The Crowd From The Raised Lights During The Faster
Parts Really Caught My Attention.

Cold Contagious- I Hadn't Heard A Really Great Version Of The Song In A
While. Probably Since Some Of The Live Show Tapes From The Early 1996
USA Tour...

Straight No Chaser- Before It, Gavin Tells About How He Had Been To Vegas
Before All Bushmania, And That He Was So Poor He Couldn't Afford A Hotel
Room And Had To Sleep In His Car!

Body- I Don't Think I'd Get Tired Of This Hearing This Everynight. The Simple,
Low Lighting Scheme They Use On The Song Makes The Arena Seem Much
Smaller And Offers A Much More Personal Feeling. Before The Opening Riff,
Gavin Tells That The Song Is About Sleeping Around With Your Close Friends!

Swallowed- I Wasn't Excited By The Band During The Song, But By Something
I Saw A Few Rows In Front Of Me, Someone With A Video Camera! It Was
One Of The Small Digital Ones, And Apparently It Looks Like A Pair Of
Binoculars To Security Who Were Obviously Unconcerned. I Didn't Manage To
Hook Up
With The Dude After The Show Unfortunately. :( And On Second Review, I'm
Thinking That What I Thought To Be A Video Camera, May Have Actually
Been One Of The Digital Still Photo Cameras Which Displays The Shot On A
Little
TV Like Screen Similar To The Way Some Video Cameras Do. :(

Walk This Way- The Aerosmith Classic, Well About Ten Seconds Of It. Just
Nigel, Dave, And Robin. It Didn't Last Long But Is Definitely Worth A Mention!

The One I Love- I Couldn't Believe It! Gavin Said They Saved It For Special
Occasions (Like Outdoor Concerts Only From What I Knew About The RS
Tour) And Apparently The Night Was Special To Them So They Played It.
Perhaps
It Was A Reward For The Fans Who Did Show Up And Just Something Else
For The Fans Who Missed Out To Be Upset Over!

Little Things- During The Bridge When It's Just The Bass/Drums For The Most
Part And Perhaps A Bit Of Guitar, Gavin Brings The Audience To A
Near Dead Silence By Request. All That Was Left Was Just A Few Yo-Yos
Left Yelling And Whistling. It Was A Cool Arena Rock Event!

A Tendency To Start Fires/ Personal Holloway/ Machinehead/ Greedy Fly/Insect
Kin/ Mouth/ Everything Zen/ History/ Cold Contagious
Straight No Chaser/ Glycerine/ Body/ Comedown/ Swallowed/ Walk This
Way/The One I Love/ Bomb/ Little Things

Continuing, At The MGM Grand, There's A Bar By The Oz Buffett, Called The
Flying Monkey Bar. After Seeing This The Morning Of The
Show, I Was Dead Sure That It Was A Sign And They Would Bring Back
Monkey Into The Set. They Didn't! Las Vegas Also Didn't Get One Of My Live
Favorites Alien, Nor Did They Get My Biggest Request, Broken TV, Which I've
Heard
Was Played The Following Night, 6/2, In San Diego! Doh!
In The Few Other Notes Category, Gavin Has Added Some Sort Of Mumbled
Improv To The Bridges Of Both Everything Zen And Little Things.
I Guess There Drawn From Other Songs That He Likes, But I'm Not Sure.
Don't Think It's Any Lyrics From The Bush Library And Doesn't Seem To Be
Something Made Up On The Spot.
I Also Finally Picked Up A T-Shirt! I'm Fond Of Tour Dates Shirts So Naturally
The One With The Dates Appealed To Me, But I Decided To Go
Against That One Because I Don't Think I'll Walk Around With A Daisy On My
Chest, So Instead I Went With The Greenish One That Has The
Razorblade On The Front.
Anyways, I Spent The Rest Of The Week In Las Vegas Seeing A Number Of
Incredible Shows, Plus Driving Into Arizona For The Grand Canyon, But Still,
My Week Was Definitely Highlighted By Another Excellent Bush/VS Show! I
Also Contemplated Going To See The Offspring 6/5 At The Joint In Vegas,But
Decided Against It Because I Didn't Feel Brave Enough To Tape In
At A Venue In A Casino Where The Eyes In The Sky Are Always Watching!

solomons bones
watching, waiting, falling, breathing.
gaping, wasted, sickly, feelin.
winds keep come my way, i have left to say.
i'm waiting here. i'm waiting here.
solomon breaks my head, kicks me so far down my street.
i am struggling with this time, i am struggling on my feet.
we go down, we go down.
there is no down, down.
there is no down, we do without.
solomom waits by the wall.
spitting from his eyes, says his lifes become my fault,
twisting black life. might as well get saved by someone,
might as well get saved all.
i am greatful for the acknowledgement, i am guilty of it all.
we go down, there is no down.
we do without, there is no, there is no, more, down.
no more down. there is no all the way.

Ottawa, ONT @ Corel Centre - July 8

Hi I wrote to you earlier telling you that i was going to a bush concert that
night. Well i went last night. We had front row seats and had a blast. Gavin
looked and sounded great. The instruments were excellent and gavins solos
ruled. Everyone was going wild. The mosh pit was out of control and everyone
looked like they were having fun. Even though the corel center [ottawa
ont]wasnt full it sure sounded like it. I had the time of my life. I give it a
perfect 10. Kila from Ottawa Canadas capital.
I LOVE BUSH

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I went to see BUSH in the COREL CENTRE in OTTAWA, ONTARIO in
CANADA July 8th. As far as how BUSH played, they were great! Gavin and the
boys are fantastic entertainers...but as for SOULS and The JESUS LIZARDS
(or as my brother and I called them "the Jesus we suck" band) that could have
been better.

When SOULS opened the show, everyone started to get excited, but then shortly
after they had begun, things went back to normal for the crowd
(buying BUSH merchandise and so on. There were all of 2 people moshing in the
crowd on the floor, and when the singer got done, you could almost hear a pin
drop. I mean, people clapped...but it wasn't with intensity. The most
memorable part of the set was the singing (?) of F-ck Monkey. Enough said.
Then out came the JESUS LIZARDS. The lead singer did get the crowd going a
little more, but still, 20 people moshing down front does not a concert make.
Again, the most memorable part in the set was not necessarily the music. It
was when the lead singer pulled his pants down so you could see half of his
ass, and the top of his pubic hair in front and sang his last song that way. I
guess he wanted to get the crowd excited...umm...I don't think so.

No offense to the two opening acts, or anyone that likes them, but I thought
that BUSH could have found a better opening duo. Oh well.

BUSH opened up with "A Tendency to Start Fires" and everything got MUCH
better from there! The crowd really let loose as the guys started to
play, and before long the COREL CENTRE was rocking! It was obvious they
were well received! While they played "Everything Zen" Gavin went into the
crowd to the right side of the CENTRE and met some of the fans...surrounded by
a cloud of security...the fans up close had a real treat! And a memory of a
lifetime!

When the lights went out after "Cold Contagious" we weren't sure whether the
guys were taking a break, but up came the lights, and there was Gavin center
stage all by himself. He played "Bonedriven" and then "Glycerine". It was
incredible! Everyone loved it!

The encore really shook the place with the band finishing with "Little Things"
What a great show they put on! The guys really seemed to be
having fun! And so did the crowd!

SETLIST:(I may have messed some of this up...but I think I got all of
it!)
1. A Tendency to Start Fires
2. Personal Holloway
3. Machinehead (this really rocked!)
4. Insect Kin
5. Mouth
6. Everything Zen
7. History
8. Cold Contagious
9. Bonedriven (Gavin alone)
10. Glycerine (Gavin alone)
11. Testosterone
12. Communicator (acutally, I forgot what was here, and think this was
it!)
13. Comedown
Encore
1. Swallowed
2. Bass solo into Alien

Everything BUSH did was awesome! Hope anyone who has never seen them
before can get out to see them on their next tour! Jerry : )

Revolution Blues
Well - we live in a trailer
At the edge of town
You never see us
Cause we don't come around
We got twenty five rifles
To keep the population down
But we need you now
That's why i'm hangin round
So you be good to me and i'll be good to you
And in this land of conditions
I am not above suspicion
I won't attack you but
I won't back you, yeah
Well - it's so good to be here
Asleep on your lawn
Remember your guard dog
I'm afraid that's gone
It was such a drag to hear him
Whining all night long
Yeah - that was me with the doves
Setting them free near the factory
Where you built your computer - love
I hope you get the connection
Cause i can't take the rejection
I don't believe you
I don't believe you
I'm a barrel of laughs
With my carbine on
I keep em hoppin
Till the ammunition's gone
But i'm still not happy
Feel like something's wrong
I got the revolution blues
I see bloody fountains
And a ten million dune buggies
Comin' down the mountains
I hear that laurel canyon
Is full of famous stars
But i hate them worse than lepers
And i'll kill them in their cars
Well you sucker
Well you sucker
Did you fuck her
You're the sucker
You're the sucker
Ask your mother
Ask your mother
Yeah yeah
You're the sucker

DAILY BUSH
12.13.98

Mansfield, MA @ Great Woods Center - July 6

This was my second Bush concert, and again, I was really excited for it. My
friends and I got there early, and just hung out around Great Woods for a
while. I saw a couple of people that I knew there before the show. The Souls
came on stage around 7:00 and they played a couple of songs. I only knew one
of their songs, but they were an okay band. As they walked off stage, all
these girls were freaking out and standing up because Gavin jumped out from
behind one of the speakers and ran backstage. He was probably watching the
Souls from there so no one would see him. There were a couple of other
situations when he was seen backstage(a curtain was
partially open so you could see back there)walking back and forth. It was
really exciting to see him before the show!
Then Jesus Lizard came on, they were alright. The lead singer hated the crowd
because they kept yelling "Bush!!!" I agreed with them though because I wanted
to see them play. The guy was really funny though, something went wrong with
the sound system and he was like, "We're having testicle difficulties." THen
he ripped off his shirt and all the girls thought he was gross. Nigel was
standing by the speakers for part of their
performance. Then they finished and left the stage. After about a 1/2 stage
setup, it was time for Bush. The stage filled with fog and
everyone began to scream. They came out on stage and everyone went crazy. They
started off with "A Tendancy to Start Fires" just like
the last concert I went to.

Here is the setlist:
A Tendency to Start Fires
Personal Holloway
Machinehead
Insect Kin
Mouth
Everything Zen
History
Bonedriven
Glycerine
Cold Contagious
Testosterone
Body
Comedown

Swallowed
Greedy Fly
Alien
Little Things

This was such a great concert because the band seemed to be more confident or
maybe it was just because this was the last show in the US
before leaving for Canada. Gavin did a lot to get the crowd excited and happy.
At one point he took off his guitar and climbed up on one of the
speakers, which was pretty high. He pulled himself up there and got everybody
going. I was so happy that they played testosterone, it's an
awesome song!
During Body, Gavin came down from the speakers that he was on, and ripped off
his shirt! My friend and I were shocked!!!!(you remember what I mean, Emily!)
Then he jumped down into the crowd after that and he couldn't get out! They
had to pry the girls off of him. Numerous times he got down on the ground and
played, which was really fun to watch. Before Little Things, Gavin intoduced
the band members to the crowd and when he introduced Nigel, Nigel walked over
to Gavin and gave him a kiss on the cheek! It was so funny. Gavin talked to
the crowd a lot all night, I could not understand a word of any of it though.
He would say something and people would just scream their heads off to hear
him speak. He threw picks into the crowd a lot and at the end pulled off his
guitar strings and gave them out. Robin did a great job of course, and Dave
played great(especially during Comedown and Alien since there is a lot
of bass at the beginning of both). The only downside was that some of my
friends and my coat were soaked in something(beer?)that smelled bad from some
idiots behind us. Overall, it was one of the best nights I have ever had in my
life, and the band put everything they had into making it really special.

Hi, my name is Robyn Daniels, I'm 15 (female) from Rhode Island. I went to a
Bush concert yesterday (July 6th) in MA at the Great Woods center. Heres how
it went: The opening bands were Souls and Jezus Lizard (did i spell that
right?), and during Jezus Lizard Gavin and Nigel came out and were watching.
Then Gavin hid behind the speaker for a while, til the band was finished.
After a while of waiting for the stage to be set up, Bush FINALLY came on in a
puff of smoke around 8:15. The first song was "Personal Hollaway" and they
played a whole lot of other songs including "Greedy FLy", "Swallowed",
"Glycerine", "Bone Driven",
"Comedown" and many more til about 11:00. Gavin had on a dark t-shirt which
he took off half way through the concert. At one point he made the crowd be
really really quiet with the words "If you'll all just..shut up. Everyone is
responsible for their own mouths, its not really that difficult." So everyone
shut up and then he said "Now louder! Louder!" and everyone began screaming
once again. Gavin also decided to jump into the crowd and play his guitar,
when he was finished everyone was pulling on him and the guards had to get him
back up. Then He was walking backwards and tripped over the speaker and Nigel
helped him up. The band ended the concert by playing "Little Things", one of
my favorite songs. I thought that the whole band has an excellent stage
presence and they put on a
fantastic show. They not only play great live, but they know how to talk to
the audience and get them going. I truly enjoyed this concert and I
look forward to going to more Bush concerts in the future.

the verse progression goes C-D-F-D-C-D-F#-G

sometimes, the guitar stops playing and the bass plays the verse
like this:
G |-----------------------------------------|
D |-----------------------------------------|
A |--3---5---8---5---3--3--5----------------|

Saratoga Springs, NY @ Performing Arts Center - July 5

Saturday, July 5. A crowded SPAC was going to be the home of a number of
lucky holders of Bush tickets for approximately 4 1/2 hours. (dramatic like
pause) I was one of them.

We arrived at SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center) very early and decided
not to buy $30 tees. Souls started it off and were okay until the lead singer
began to get just a tad of a bit obscene. Jesus Lizard wasn't that bad
actually, but they weren't the best either.

Then came Bush. Let me tell you something, if you ever have an urge to stand
on a chair for two hours and fifteen minutes and scream, sing and yell at the
top of your lungs while doing it then this is the thing to do. They were
awesome. Their songs were good, the sound was good (finally, nobody yelling at
me to turn it down!) and the show was good.

On to specifics. They played A Tendency to Start Fires, Personal Holloway,
Machinehead, Insect Kin, Mouth, Everything Zen, History, Bonedriven,
Glycerine, Cold Contagious, Testosterone, Body and Comedown as the
main set. Then they teased us by going off stage. The entire place began to
scream really loud for them to come back on. When they did it was awesome. For
the encore they played a weird little ditty which I have no clue as to what it
was, Swallowed, Greedy Fly, Alien (yea!) and Little Things.

Gavin basically went crazy throughout the show. He went to the side of the
stage a lot and prompted the crowd to scream and stuff and waved to me two
times (i sure about 30-40 other people thought he was waving to them. but it
was me... really :). when he took his shirt off the place went wild. he threw
all his guitar strings into the audience and i think some pics.

Nigel basically stood to himself the other time and played an awesome guitar.
until some wild fan (me, with the help of somebody i met at the concert)
screamed "I LOVE YOU NIGEL!" (the guy rules) and gavin stopped and said "Wait,
the fans want Nigel) and he gave a little intro. He sort of shrunk back and
looked a little embarassed but it was awesome anyway.

Dave didn't do anything big either except in alien where he played an awesome
bass. He also went over and talked a little to Nigel during the show.

Robin played a cool drums, and when he wasn't playing he was waving his
drumsticks around i guess to keep beat. he threw his drumsticks in the crowd
at the end and waved to me on the way out (yes, i'm sure it was me... really
:)

Unfortunately my dad wouldn't let me stalk the stage door, bribe a security
guard or hang by the tour bus on the way out so i didn't get to meet them. We
did manage to snag a cool $10 tee which was cheaper and better looking then
the ones sold at the overpriced merchandise stand (not only does it have the
pic of the group on it, it has Razorblade Suitcase Tour on the back and the
places where they played).

The only negative part of the show were the people who flogged themselves
toward the stage. It was sick. The rest of the show was great, and i suggest
that if you ever get a chance to go, go.

Herhsey, PA @ Hersheypark Stadium - July 4

Heres's my review of the chocolate town usa's bush bash.

The show started an hour early at 7 in stead of 8 and the first band souls
came out. The singer fingered her area then smelled her finger which was the
highlight of there show. The Jesus Lizard were very impressive to me the
singer was in a thong and a cooking apron and chefs hat. He jumped into the
crowd sang a song while crowd surfing, which was neat.
Bush came out to a misty blue stage and the roar of all the girls about made
me deaf as Gavin walked onstage. they opened with personel Holloway, followed
by A tendency to start fires. Machinehead got the place really going. Towards
the middle of the show Gavin took off his shirt to play a solo performance of
Bonedriven and Glycerine. The show was really good, I was in the front row and
Gavin jumped off the stage and walked right by me and I had the opportunity to
touch his shoulder has he walked by. I was crushed the whole show, however I
must say it was worth it. As the limo drove two or three feet in front of me
the tons of female fans ran after the band as the limo driver put on the gas.
setlist as I remember:

A tendency to start fires
machinehead

insect kin

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The concert at Hershey PA, was the awesomest ever....with the exception of the
two opening bands, Soul ( the lead singer kept feeling herself on stage) and
Jesus Lizard ( the lead singer wore nothing but a thong and an apron, so the
whole crowd had a perfect view of his butt...he also took it upon himself to
go crowd surfing...which was pretty disgusting for those people who had to
touch him...)

anyway I was on the field ( the concert was held in an outside stadium ) and
by the time bush got up there, I had managed to push myself to the
very front...I was on the right of the stage, so Dave was directly in front of
me the entire time!! I didn't really take notice to exactly what songs that
they played...I think that they played just about
everything...the only song that I noticed that they didn't play was Straight
No Chaser..which was a HUGE disappointment to me..anywaysss

the concert was great...and the crowd was just going insane..the stadium
wasn't even close to being packed ( maybe because they are a British band and
it was the fourth?) but we were so loud...Gavin was just having a great time
with us...he kept telling us to "shut the f-ck up!!" but we would just start
screaming even louder and he would just laugh...

Nigel and Dave really just sank into the shadows...Robin was having fun at the
drums..he kept waving his sticks around...and Gavin was going wild, he came
down off the stage at one point...and started running back and forth in front
of the audience..in the little space between the stage and the gate that the
crowd couldn't go past...anyway...the first time that he ran
by me I reached out as far as I could ( I almost fell over the gate ) and got
a grip on his arm...I was completely dazed by that...until he came back the
second time to get back on the stage..this time everybody was mobbing him
hoping to touch him...and all the sudden he just fell down..right in front of
me...I mean, no lie, I was practically eating his beautiful golden locks...so
I took the opportunity and grabbed him by the shoulders with both my
hands...but the guards grabbed him
out of my grasp and thrust him back onto the stage......that was just too
cool....surprisingly, Gavin's skin was silky smoothe !!!!!!!!!

the place was just so packed and everybody that was on the field was fainting
and getting hurt and all that yummy stuff...so the guards were hosing us all
of...and pulling people up and out of the crowd...

but it was just completely worth everything...because I will be the first to
admit that sometimes bush doesn't sound so great live...but everything was
just perfect...especially Gavin's voice....and the band just seemed to
have fun with it...Nigel even played part of the National Anthem on his
guitar...

they left and then came back for their encore..they started with Swallowed and
played for atleast another half hour...then at the end robin threw out
his drum sticks...and gavin threw all the strings to his guitar,,,,and a
BRA..but he didn't throw anything to my side of the crowd...but ..I forgive
him

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi! I saw Bush for the first time on July 4th at Hershey Park Stadium. The 9.5
hour wait to get in was well worth it. Gavin caused quit a stir during Souls
and Jesus Lizard by stnading next to the speakers. I was totally smashed up
front. Gavin opened the show with a great Independence Day joke that no one
seemed to get. He came out and wished eveyone a Happy Independence Day and
then he said never mind. Why would he want to wish that since that was the day
that we got rid of them! Stuff was thrown on stage and Gavin had another great
line. He asked whoever threw the object to come up front and explain
themselves. Then he asked if it was Billy Corgan again. Then he said no, billy
and i are friends. just a joke. The set lasted over 2 hours and was topped of
with an awesome fireworks dispaly. Jesus Lizard was scarey. the lead singer
had on an apron and a
leather g-string. Then he jumped out in the crowd. his naked butt was right
over my head. GROSS! He keep making fun of how he is the only american person
there. Also, Gavin jumped off the
stage as he said that greedy fly was about an intense sexual experience.

It's Been One Hell Of A Trip, All Starting Way Back In March In The Humidity
Of New Orleans And Finally Coming To A Close, Six Shows And
Five Trips Later, In The Chocolate Capital Of The World, Hershey,
Pennsylvania. I Found It A Little Funny That On Independence Day, 2/3's
Of The Show I Was Seeing Was Comprised Of Foreigners! I Left, In Route To The
Show, On June 29, Spending The Early Portion Of The Week In Washington DC And
In Various Places In Pennsylvania, Like York. It Had Been A Long Week As I'd
Spent Much Of It Bored (I'm Not Much Into Seeing Monuments And Old Things, I
Like Action!) And Sick (I Think I Ate Something.) So I Was Downright Miserable
At Times, Just Fed Up With The World, And Deserved To Finally Have A Good
Time! Hershey, Nor Bush, Let Me Down. I Got Into Hershey Around Midday On
Thursday July 3. I Checked Into The
Overpriced Hershey Hotel, Where My Bathroom Was So Small, I Didn't Even
Attempt To Shave. And The Shower/Tub Area Was So Small, I Had To Turn
Sideways And Face Either The Curtain Or The Wall To Avoid Half Of Me
Sticking Out Of The Tub! I Think If I'd Have Tried To Sit Down, I'd Have Been
Stuck!
By The Time I Got To Chocolate World And The Amusement Park, All Of My
Bathroom Problems Were Forgotten! Everyone Remember The Spider Ride In
Beverly Hills Cop III Where Axl Rescues The Kids, Chocolate World Had
The Ride! Ever Since I Saw The Movie, I've Wanted To Go On It, But Have
Never Known Where To Go To Do It! My Dreams Were Finally Realized In
Hershey! Anyways, I Spent The Remainder Of The Evening Hanging Around
The Park And Just Enjoying Everything. I Also Took Some Time Thursday Night To
Check Out The Venue, Hershey Park Stadium.
Hershey Park Stadium Is Right On The Property Of The Hershey Theme Park,
And Is Basically A High School Football Stadium With A Stage On One End,
And Home And Visitors Bleachers On Each Side. Before You Actually
Get Inside, Your Thinking It Must Be The Worst Place In The World To Catch
A Concert, But In Reality It's Really A Great Setting, Very Relaxing.
The Most Interesting Aspect Of The Stadium Is Its Openness. With Nothing To
Really Catch The Sound, Through Out Hershey, Whenever There's Something
Happening In The Stadium, The Whole Town Hears It! I Learned From A Porter
At The Hershey Hotel The Morning Following The Show, That After A Guns
And Roses/Smashing Pumpkins Concert Back In 1991, People Began
To Complain About The Shows Disturbing The Peace, And Some Stricter Noise
Ordinances Were Enacted, So Despite It All Seeming Reasonably Loud To Me,
It Wasn't Even As Loud As It Use To Be! Anyways, Friday Was To Be Spent At The
Park Area. The Morning And Afternoon In The Theme Park And The Night In The
Stadium. I Slept In That Day And Didn't Get Out The Door And Into The Park
Until Around 10:30 That Morning. I Drove Over, Secured A Fabulous Parking Spot
Right Next To The Stadium (Which Would Be Lovely For Getting Out Of The Show
Quickly And For Hanging Out Before The Show), And Headed Into The Park Again.
(One Note, At That Time, The Road Crew Had Already Gotten The Stage Together,
Red Carpet And All, And Was Nearly Finished With The Lighting!) Around 2PM, I
Was On The Otherside Of The Park, Back In The Animal Area At Zoo America When
I First Heard The Familiar Sound Of The Kick And Snare Drums. It Was My Goal
Of The Moment To Catch A Bush Soundcheck. I Dropped Everything I Was Doing
There And Headed Straight For The Stadium. It Was A False Alarm As It Was Just
The Roadies, But I Decided To Stay There Anyway. Unfortunately, It Would Be
Another 2 Hours Before Anything Happened Again. Fortunately, My Nearby Vehicle
Allowed Me To Toss My Feet Up On The Dash, And Waste My Time Until The Real
Thing Snoozing And Watching The People. Around 4 PM, With Just A Little
Drumming Warning, Jesus Lizard Took To The Stage. I Assumed A Position, On The
Side Of The Stage, Outside Of The Fence, And Leaning Up Against The Stadium
Itself To See Through A Crack In The Fence. (The Fence Is Chain Link, But
Plastic Was Placed Over It To Provide Some Privacy) I Watched As They Played A
Pair Of Songs, And Between The Two, David Yow, The Lead Singer Did A Bit Of
Vocal Improv So The Soundmen Could Have A Chance To Adjust The Vocal Mix. 11m
After Starting,
They Were Finished!
During The 20m Break Between JLizard And Souls, I Spent Some Time
Listening To Some Of The Rumors Floating Around About Where The Band
Was At The Moment! Everyone Had Some Gossip! About 10m Into The 20m
Break, A Girl By Me, With The Help Of Her Binoculars, Spotted Gavin Talking
To The Roadies On Stage And The 50 Or So People Gathered Around Went
Nuts.
I Stood And Watched In Amusement As The Females Squealed And Professed
Their Devotion To Gavin As He Walked From The Stage To The Back Of The
Field To Talk With One Of The Soundmen. He Was Kind Enough To Wave, But
Considering About 50 People Had Gathered Together, To See Him, Four Hours
Before The
Show, I Think He Owed It To Them To Come Over And Atleast Say Hello.
Anyways, Shortly After That, Shortly After My Prediction Souls Would
Soundcheck Next, And Shortly After I Predicted Bush Probably
Wouldn't Be Soundchecking, Souls Hit The Stage. It Was About 4:40. They
Tested Some Effects (Like The Intro Bit) And Also Ran Through A Few
Complete Songs Mingled With Parts Of Songs They Were Attempting To Run
Through. Their
Soundcheck Lasted Roughly 28m. When They Finished Up At 5:10, I Was
Holding Some Hope That Bush Would Still Soundcheck, But When The
Soundman Fired Up A Tape Of Pre-Show Music, I Knew It Was Over And I
Headed For The Shuttle
To Take Me Back To The Hershey Hotel To Prepare For The Main Event.
I Arrived Back At The Stadium, Via The Shuttle, At About 6:55. With The Show
Starting At 8PM, I Didn't Want To Spend An Hour In The Stadium So I
Decided To Go And Have Dinner In The Park, But Not First Without Sending A
Friend To Check The Security Situation Getting In. While Standing There
Waiting
(The Time Having Reached 7PM)For Him To Return I Heard The Strangest
Thing, The Souls Intro Music! The Show Was Beginning. The Show Was
Beginning An Hour Early! Sh-t!
I Wasn't Terribly Upset As I'd Already Painfully Witnessed The Disaster That
Is
Souls A Pair Of Times, But Nothing Pisses Me Off More
Than An Incorrect Start Time On The Tickets. It's Happened To Me Not Once,
Not Twice, But Three Times Since April! I Ended Up Catching About 24m Of
Their Set, And To Their Credit, They Have Improved Since I First Saw Them In
Las Vegas, But There Still A Mess And Do Not Deserve To Be Opening For
Bush In Front Of 15,000 People. (On That Note, Hershey Park Stadium Was
Strangely Empty. The Place Was Half Full, At Most! Although, Bush Has Played
Within 100 Miles Of The Stadium Multiple Times During The RBSC
Tour.)
After The Shortest Break Ever Between Acts Of About 18m, Jesus Lizard Hit
The Stage At 7:52. There First Few Songs, Musically Got Me Going, But After
That, My Inability To Understand A Single Word Of Vocalist David Yow And
The Similarity Between The Songs Lost Me And I Got Bored. His Act Of
Performing In Only A Jock Strap And Spending Quite A Bit Of Time Crowd
Surfing Was Also Initially Interesting, But Got Old After About 15m. Jesus
Lizard
Wasted About 42m Of My Life.
Bush Hit The Stage At 9:03. It Was Still Daylight, Somewhat, So Their Set
Officially Began With The Intro Music. Strangely Enough, It
Happened Right After I Had Said "Anyone Care To Place Bets As To When
They'll Hit The Stage?!"
When I Didn't Hear The Familiar A5 Chord Opening Of A Certain Song, I Knew
We'd Been Treated To A Personal Holloway Opening, And With That, The
Show Began.
And Now, My Song By Song Lowlight/Highlight Review-

Personal Holloway Through Cold Contagious- Is This Part Of The Show Dead
Or What?! There's No Life Whatsoever Because It's Been Identical
Every Night Since April! It's Like There Scared To Change It Around Or
Something!

Insect Kin- Right Before The Bridge, Gavin Hopped Down On The Floor From
The Stage Into The Security Area Directly In Front Of The Stage.
Apparently He Was Having Some Trouble Getting Back Up, Thus Giving The
Bridge To Insect
Kin A Little More Kick As His Distortion Pedal Remainined On For A Bit. Dave
Seemed To Try And Go Over To Turn It Off, But I Don't Think He Knew
Which One To Press. After A Few Seconds, Gavin Got Back On Stage,
Dumped The
Distortion, And Life Resumed To Normal.

Everything Zen- I Had Trouble Understanding Gavin All Night, But Before Zen,
He Mumbled Something About Someone Who Threw Something At Him
During The End Of Mouth, Something About Billy Corgan (!), Something About
A Sweet Tooth, And Finally Played The Only Bit Of The Star Spangled
Banner That He Knew! (It Would Be Played Again Right Before Swallowed!)

Gavin Also Improv'd "Fourth, July" Into The Part Where He, While Only Playing
Himself, Says "Zen, Zen".

History- I've Never Seen Nigel Eat The Soloing During The Intro So Alive! He
Was Crazy!

Cold Contagious- The First Time I Managed To See Robin Count Out The Intro
To The Song. I Always Somehow Thought Dave And Him Orally Communicated
To Start The Song, Because It Just Seems To Kind Of Start.

Bone Driven- A Single Camera Man Filmed All Of The Song. There Was Some
Speculation After The Show That The Song May Be The Fifth Single From
Razorblade Suitcase And The Band Was Shooting Video Footage For It.

And While I'm Rambling About Singles, I'd Like To Offer My Thoughts About
Singles. I Think Single Selection From The Album Has Been
Downright Poor. Although To The Band's Credit, I Don't Think It Was As Clear
Cut As It Was For Sixteen Stone. While I Thought Greedy Fly And Cold
Contagious Were Strong Selections, I Think Swallowed (It's Repetitious And Its
Lyrics Open The Door To Criticism And Dirty Jokes Way Too Easily) And
Personal Holloway (A Strong Song, But The Band Must Not Have Listened To
A
Tendency To Start Fires Or Insect Kin Recently) Weren't The Road To Travel,
And Bone Driven Just Continues Down That Path. In Summary, Bone Driven Is
Not Glycerine, And I Don't Think The Band Should Think About Trying To
Travel
That Road Again, Because I Think It Will Fail This Time.

Anyways, Back To The Show.

Testosterone- After Glycerine, The Band Comes Back. Robin Sits Down, And
What I Initially Thought To Be A Jam Just On The Testoserone Drum Riff,
Becomes The Real Thing! Robin Must Have Played The Drum Beat For Nearly
45
Seconds Before Gavin Jumped In With The Main Riff. I'm Not A Big Fan Of The
Song But It Was A Nice Change.

Body- Included A Long Jam At the Start Of The Song, Between Just Nigel,
Dave, And Robin, As Gavin Was Down On The Floor, In The Security Area,
Getting To Know The Fans A Little Better! Gavin Was Also Caught Off Guard
At The Time He Normally Starts To Sing In The First Verse As He Was Over
By The Drum Riser And Had To Run Back To The Mic.

Alien- "And I Swear To This, Felt Like Elvis" Becomes The Latest Lyrical
Addition!

(Speaking Of Elvis, Strangely Enough, I've Seen Bush In Both Of His Main
Hangouts, Las Vegas And Memphis, That Bush Has Hit! Hmm, When's The
Hawaii Date?!)

Greedy Fly- Before The Song, To The Tune Of Something, Perhaps Yankee
Doodle, Gavin Improvs Something About The Fourth Of July And The Greedy
Fly, Himself.

He Also Thanks The Crowd For The Day Saying "It's Been One Of The Best
Sexual Experiences He's Had In A Long Time!" That Bit Of Thanks I Guess
Somewhat Redeems Him For Not Coming Over And Saying Hello During The
Soundcheck!

Little Things- A Forced March. It's Completely And Totally Unclimatic, As
Everyone Knows It Is Coming And We've Already Hit The High Of The Show,
And The Encore, With Alien. Gavin Did However Let The Audience Sing The
First Two Verses As He Only Sung A Few Words In Each. (On A While I'm
Thinking About It Note, I Think The Band Originally Wanted To Title The Song
"Little
Things That Kill" As Of The 2-3 Times I've Heard Gavin Introduce The Song,
He's Intro'd It That Way. I'd Imagine The Title Was Shortened For Radio
Friendly Purposes.)

Immediately After Little Things, Fireworks. And While I'm Not Much Into
Fireworks, It Was Pretty Cool That Immediately After The Last Note
Of The Goodbye Song, The Fireworks Started!
So, 117 Minutes After It Began, The Show And My Razorblade Suitcase
Experience Ended. It Was An Exciting Run. I've Never Seen A Band 6
Times On One Tour, And It's A Really Awesome Experience To See The Tour
Multiple
Times And See The Band Evolve As It Moves Along. I Saw The Earliest, The
Middle, And The Ending, Of The Tour.

Personal Holloway/ A Tendency To Start Fires/ Machinehead/ Insect
Kin/Mouth/Everything Zen/ History/ Cold Contagious/ Bone Driven/
Glycerine/Testosterone/ Body/ Comdown/ Swallowed/ Alien/ Greedy Fly/ Little
Things

I Wonder If I'll Like Them When They Do Come Back To The USA? The
Rumors, The Band That Is, Have Said That They Probably Won't Be Back Until
After Another Album, Probably Like A Year And A Half From Now. That's A
Long Time In The World I Live In!

I went to the K-Rock's Disfunctional Family Picnic concert in Forest Hills,
NY. This show featured Fred Norris's Band, Echo and the Bunnyman, Soul
Coughing, Foo Fighters, Luscious Jackson, and ofcourse BUSH, as the last act.
This time i was in the pit and almost died but finally made my way to the
front row. Seeing BUSH so upclose is such an incredible experience. Anyone who
has been to a BUSH concert in the first row knows what i'm talking about. The
set was mostly the same but just an hour shorted then from the night before,
which means that they played less songs.Except at this show, there were much
more stuff thrown at them which messed everything up. But BUSH didn't seem to
mind that much and kept on playing.

Also, I just want to say to those none BUSH fans to attend at least one of
their concerts and you would find out how great and talented they are. Rock on
Gavin, Nigel, Robin, and Dave ......and I'll see you next time you guys come
around NYC.

I went to the concert in Canadaguia. It rocked. Souls sounded like No Doubt,
so they suck. They were really disgusting one song the lead singer felt herself
and the bass guy whipped out Mr. Happy. Then Jesus Lizard came out, the guy
was mad drunk, he pulled down his pants so we
could see his butt, what we needed to see, an old guys butt. Finally, Bush was
getting ready, they were late. The first song they sang was Tendency to start
fires,Machinehead i forgot the order after this,Mouth,
History,Testosterone,Everything Zen,Comedown,Little Things,Bonedriven,
Glycerine,Swallowed,Insect Kin,Greedy Fly, dont remember the rest. I was in
the 4th row and Gavin camedown and me and my cousin tried to get near
him so i could get good picttures. When they were playing Comedown Gavin
took off his shirt. Me and my cousin were holding a sign that said
"Happy Birthday Dave," he saw it and smiled at us. I felt so good he was
happy. We started our own mosh pit on Daves side and Gavin dedicated
Little Things to us cause he said F**k the rules and this sides did it.Finally
it was over and Gavin was throwing his guitar strings and he threw one
directly at me. Everytime Bush comes near Rochester, im going, it's worth it
seeing them a second time.
