Online charity auction of Kurt Jackson paintings from Glastonbury Festival
Greenpeace and Oxfam are teaming up with internet auctioneers eBay to
organise an online exhibition and auction of 64 paintings and drawings from
last year's Glastonbury Festival, donated by the festival's artist in
residence, Kurt Jackson. All 64 works can be viewed from April 10 at
www.greenpeace.org.uk <http://www.greenpeace.org.uk>/glasto.htm, and the
auction will begin at www.ebay.co.uk <http://www.ebay.co.uk> on April 28.
The artworks range from A3 paintings to small pencil drawings. They include
paintings of well-known bands such as REM, Hole, Bush, Blondie and Gomez, as
well as views across the festival site, artists performing on the jazz
stage, circus acts, poets and many more.
Kurt Jackson, who lives near Penzance and is known for his Cornish
landscapes, was invited by Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis to become the
festival's first artist in residence in 1999. He has kindly donated all his
work from the event to raise funds for Greenpeace and Oxfam.
"This idea has come from my many visits to Glastonbury both for sketching
purposes and for entertainment, and from many years supporting Oxfam and
Greenpeace," says Kurt. "Being the artist in residence has enabled me to
paint and draw the festival thoroughly, and in a way the work I've done at
Glastonbury is an extension of my continuing study of the landscape, our
environment and our interaction with it.">>
