QUESTION: Where the hell is the BUBBLES anniversary issue that was
**supposed** to come out in February, damnit Reena!!!!!
ANSWER: I'm sorry, ah! I feel so terrible, I really do. The truth of the
matter is is that the issue has been finished. There are lots of goodies,
let me tell you, like an exclusive interview with Jennifer Nine, exclusive
photos, a contest where you can win mass BUSH stuff, and much more. Here's
the problem: when I made the 'zine (which is going to be launched on the
www), I made it on a laptop, and everything is proportional, fits on the
page, etc. I go downstairs to check it out on the computer, and woh, it
looks like sh...well, not like how it looked on the laptop...SO, I'm trying
to make everything look pretty, so please hold on! I will have it out soon,
very soon, cos if I don't do it now, it won't be out till July/August.
Speaking of which....

>>THE BUBBLES WEBSITE WILL BE VERY LITTLE UPDATED OR NOT UPDATED AT ALL
BETWEEN JUNE 17-JULY 19, AND YOU WILL BE RECEIVING NO EMAILS FROM THIS LIST.
Why? I will be overseas during that time. I will still have email, but I'm
not quite sure if AOL will work, so take note of the following:
-Email only if important!
-Subscription emails direct to: bubbleszine@... **NOT**
bubbleszine@.... This is because AOL deletes email after a few weeks
when the mailbox gets full.
-If you want a better chance of getting your email to me and faster, I
suggest you email me at bubbleszine@... or bushpositivezine@....
-I'm looking for a volunteer who is willing to email me any BUSH news and
happenings while I'm gone since I may unsubscribe from all these mailing

News as of 04.17.00

Thanks to Greenpeace for this update:

<<One of the paintings in a really fantastic one of Bush at Glastonbury 99.
The painting itself measure 420mmx297mm, it has been beautifully framed so is
now bigger than this. You can see the painting now at
www.greenpeace.org.uk/glasto.htm

Bidding starts on 28th April, so don't miss this unique opportunity while
also supporting Greenpeace and Oxfam. As you may know Bush themselves are
very strong supporters of Greenpeace.

Immediate release

Online charity auction of Kurt Jackson paintings from Glastonbury Festival

Greenpeace and Oxfam are teaming up with internet auctioneers eBay to
organise an online exhibition and auction of 64 paintings and drawings from
last year's Glastonbury Festival, donated by the festival's artist in
residence, Kurt Jackson. All 64 works can be viewed from April 10 at
www.greenpeace.org.uk <http://www.greenpeace.org.uk>/glasto.htm, and the
auction will begin at www.ebay.co.uk <http://www.ebay.co.uk> on April 28.

The artworks range from A3 paintings to small pencil drawings. They include
paintings of well-known bands such as REM, Hole, Bush, Blondie and Gomez, as
well as views across the festival site, artists performing on the jazz
stage, circus acts, poets and many more.

Kurt Jackson, who lives near Penzance and is known for his Cornish
landscapes, was invited by Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis to become the
festival's first artist in residence in 1999. He has kindly donated all his
work from the event to raise funds for Greenpeace and Oxfam.

"This idea has come from my many visits to Glastonbury both for sketching
purposes and for entertainment, and from many years supporting Oxfam and
Greenpeace," says Kurt. "Being the artist in residence has enabled me to
paint and draw the festival thoroughly, and in a way the work I've done at
Glastonbury is an extension of my continuing study of the landscape, our
environment and our interaction with it.">>

-Gavin Rossdale Looking Ahead To New Bush Album, Solo LP
Singer/guitarist says group, now on U.S. tour, hopes to begin recording by
summer.
Staff Writer Brian Hiatt reports:
Bush have just begun touring the U.S. in support of their latest album, The
Science of Things, but the British pop-rockers are already making plans to
begin recording their next release.
"I hope to be doing it by late summer. I think it's important to keep
momentum," frontman Gavin Rossdale said last week from a Florida tour stop.
Rossdale, who also is planning a solo LP, said he's working on "light
sketches" of new songs, though he declined to say what direction he expects
Bush's next album to take.
"The sound should be something elusive," he said. "For us it's about
constantly evolving, trying to reflect things about your life."
The band's current MTV-sponsored tour of college campuses, which also
features electronica artist Moby, is slated to end April 30 but will be
followed by a summer tour of outdoor amphitheaters, Bush spokesperson Michael
Pagnotta said.
The band plans to enter the studio after that tour ends, according to
Pagnotta, who said the group was frustrated by the three-year gap between
their second album, 1996's Razorblade Suitcase, and last year's The Science
of Things. The delay was largely because of a now-resolved lawsuit filed
against the band by their label, Trauma Records.
A remix album, 1997's Deconstructed, came out in the interim. That album,
which featured Bush hits such as "Mouth" (RealAudio excerpt) reworked by such
producers as Goldie and Tricky, inspired the band to incorporate electronica
into its sound, according to Bush drummer Robin Goodridge.
"We were really excited by some of the reinterpretations of our material that
people did," he said last year.
Rossdale plans to delve into even more experimental territory on a solo
album, which he said he hopes to record following Bush's next release.
"I'll do something different and strange and untethered by other people," he
said. "I think it'll be a combination of everything — I'd like to have a
cross between Fugazi and Pere Ubu."

-On E!'s Style channel preview during the show Spring Fashion 2000, Gavin was
interviewed in London during Alexander McQueen's runway show. Gavin said he
loved the collection, and it was amazing.

-Gavin was mentioned on MTV News 1515 (this week's edition) as an inspiration
to No Doubt's new album, Return of Saturn. There were also clips of Gavin
and Gwen from the Scream premiere and MTV's New Year's Eve Bash. Rerun:
Sunday @ 9AM EST.

-Exclusive news from BUBBLES: Gavin gets hit with a shoe
At the Boca Raton show in Florida on March 24, a fan accidently hit Gavin's
head with a shoe. Gavin looked pissed and said a few words about the
incident during the show. More on this story from Oscar in issue seventy-six
of the BUBBLES 'zine.

-Gavin gets carried away!
"I'm great friends with a D.J up here in Vermont and he emailed me today.
Apparently, our dear Gavin was crowd surfing at a concert in Florida. The
crowd carried him to the back of the arena, almost to the balcony, before
security finally got a hold of him." -Thanks ChickityInsect@...

-From All-Star Daily News:
Bush's Gavin Rossdale Talks Doors, Public Enemy Covers
Bush is putting its thus-far-useless studio time covering "Break on Through
(To the Other Side)" by the Doors to good use on their current MTV Campus
Invasion tour with Moby.
While the band originally recorded the song for the The Doors: A Tribute last
year, their label, Trauma Records, put the kibosh on the tune due to a
conflict between release schedules of the band's last album, The Science of
Things, and the tribute. Instead, the band has opted to toss the track into
their current set list.
"I've been screaming 'Break on Through' all day," says Gavin Rossdale,
speaking just after the band's sound check in Boca Raton, Fla. on Friday
(March 24). "That's why my voice is shot. But we recorded it and had a really
great time doing it, but our record company got really nervous about it. I
feel really bad for the Doors, but we weren't allowed [to do it]. That's why
it just seemed obvious to do this one."
Bush is also working some kinks out on a cover of Public Enemy's "Black Steel
in the Hour of Chaos" to play on the Campus Invasion tour as well.
"We decided to work it out today, but there was a bit of a big audience
watching us so it felt a bit vulnerable."
Bush and Moby play State College, Pa. on Tuesday (March 28). After the tour,
which ends in Las Vegas on May 4, the band will take a month off before
hitting a selection of European festivals followed by a few more U.S. dates
and another possible tour of England.
Rossdale plans on using his month-long break to write some new tunes for the
next Bush record, but does he have any new tracks in the can yet?
"A few little things ... a few little things."
No pun intended.
(Kevin Raub)

Hey everyone! I have been thinking about doing this for a long time, and
right now I have decided, what the heck...

If you are attending a BUSH show on the MTV Campus Invasion and would like to
host your own meet-up (or attend one), please read on!

On the BUBBLES website (http://bubbleszine.tripod.com), I will let two people
at the most sign up to host a meet-up with BUSH fans at the concert they are
attending. Your NAME, EMAIL ADDRESS and the DATE AND LOCATION of the concert
will be posted on a page of the website. That is *all* the information that
will be released publicly. Anyone who would like to attend the meet-up will
then email YOU and from then on it is your game. I have no responsiblity
whatsoever as to what goes on that night and between emails. If you would
like to host a meet-up, please email me (BUBBLESzine@...) AS SOON AS
POSSIBLE! This only publicizes the fact that there will be a meet-up at a
specific place and time and that you are heading it.
For more information, please visit http://bubbleszine.tripod.com/meet-up.html

The third official BUBBLES meet-up (yes, that means I will be there) will be
on April 4, 2000 in Oxford OH. If you would like to learn more, go to
http://bubbleszine.tripod.com/thelist.html

Remember, the quicker you reply the better chances of you reserving a spot
for the meet-up and/or attending one/getting people to attend.

I hope everything turns out well, and feel free to email me with questions.
And if you are wondering, the meet-ups are usually blast! BUSH fans are fun
people.

Yes, Yes, in fact, Gwen *did* sing with Gavin during Space Travel! It was
quite awesome! Also, the last verse of Glycerine was performed by ALL of
BUSH- very interesting and cool. Plus, Gavin didn't play his guitar during
Little Things! If you would like to see the webcast again, head on over to
dotmusic.com/specials/bush to check it out. The archived version will be up
for two weeks.

Remember there is a BUBBLES meet-up in the works! Go to

Have a great night!!

Hey everyone! I'm really thrilled cos I ordered my BUSH tickets today (from
amBUSH)! I won't be able to hold the actually tickets in my hands till the
night of the show, oh well. They said it would be in the first 1/3 rows of
the hall, so I guess that's cool. It came out to a whopping $58 and
70something cents, but of course it'll be worth it! Ah, BUSH and Moby, how
rad is that?!

Anywho, speaking of the tour, I wanted to inform you all that there will be a
BUBBLES meet-up for the Campus Invasion tour. It will be in Oxford OH on
April 4.
If you would like more information, please go to
http://bubbleszine.tripod.com/thelist.html

This is the third meet-up I've done (the first was NYC and the second was
Indianapolis), and I must say, they are incredibly fun! By the way, hello to
all who joined the meet-ups, especially the ones who were at NYC 07.22.00!
Later!

Rossdale, has asked us to webcast their final UK show to a massive global

Once again we will be building a dedicated Bush area on dotmusic which will
include reviews, competitions and a special Bush fans chat room enabling fans
to chat live during the gig itself.Following our ground-breaking internet

so that fans can hear the band at its very best. The gig will also be
archived on dotmusic for two weeks."We're really excited about webcasting
this Bush gig," says dotmusic Editor Andy Strickland. "'Warm Machine' is
already a big dotmusic favourite and once again this is further proof that

Hey everyone! Disregard yesterday's email about the confirmed dates, because
the Asbury Park, New Jersey on March 30 show has been CANCELLED. Instead,
more dates are being added to Florida and across the country. I'm sorry, I
really do not know why the tour dates haven't been released, but as soon as I
get them, they will be yours. What I have been thinking is that since these
are on campus dates, possibly they are letting only students and radio
stations know before the national public. Who knows?
Here are the dates so far:

03/23/00 | Orlando FL | University of Central Florida Arena
03/25/00 | Tampa FL | USF Sundome
04/07/00 | Norman OK | Lloyd Noble Center (from gymmil@...)

Also, for those of you in Germany and Holland, two more tour dates for you:

06/10/00 | Holland | Pinkpop Festival
06/11/00 | Germany | Rock am Ring and Rock im Park

*These are MTV Campus Invasion da
tes, all with Moby! Tickets go on sale this week through Ticketmaster.
There will be more dates soon. I believe that there is a March 19 show in

-I was watching Fashion Television today on E!, and they were airing the
runway show from Tommy Hilfiger's collection for Spring 2000. As we know,
BUSH performed at the same runway show back in September of 1999. Video
Fashion Weekly aired the runway show, an interview with Gavin, and part of
the performance for "Machinehead." Well, Fashion Television aired the same
runway show...except they didn't even mention BUSH! You could see BUSH
playing in the very background, but none of the songs were even heard being
played, nobody mentioned BUSH, no close-ups of the band, nothing. They were
just talking about how Tommy Hilfiger likes rockstars and have them play at
his shows (yet no mention of BUSH!).

-More on the Austria incident from All Star Daily News: Gavin Rossdale
The recent public outrage over Austria's latest political faction to gain
power, the ultra-right People's Party headed by Joerg Haider, has stretched
in to the music business as well. Bush's Gavin Rossdale, who is
half-Russian-Jewish on his father's side, incorporated a Jewish prayer into
the band's song "Prizefighter" over the weekend at shows in Graz, Austria
and Vienna, Austria. Rossdale sang a line of the Hammotzi -- a traditional
blessing of bread -- to show his sympathy for Austrian protesters of Haider.
The Austrian political leader is said to have Nazi sympathies and
tendencies, and his recent appointment to a share of power in Austria has
sparked a worldwide outcry. (Kevin Raub)
*02.07.00*
-On Friday night during BUSH's show in Austria, Gavin sang a Jewish prayer
called Hammotzi.  Here's a portion of the article:
"I thought that the best way to put it last night — because I felt that it
was just glib and strange to not even mention it — was just to offer
condolences for people having to deal with that," Rossdale said in a phone
interview from Vienna, where the band has a show Saturday. Austria's new
government, sworn in on Friday, includes the far-right Freedom Party of
Joerg Haider, who has made statements denigrating immigrants and minimizing
Nazi war crimes. The Freedom Party's inclusion in the government has been
met with condemnation abroad and violent protests at home. Riots in Vienna
on Friday night left 56 people injured in the city's worst violence in 10
years. Rossdale, whose father's family were Jewish emigres from Russia in
the 1860s, said the crowd's reaction to his small gesture of defiance was
"really, really powerful, and really excited and passionate. "It's taken
them a long time to get over Austria's part within the SS and all that
stuff, and it's not a part of Austria that most people I've come across at
our shows are proud of. It's not the favorite part of their history.
There's a sense of serious malcontent."

Hi there, everyone. I was looking up chart positions from Billboard to
update >BUBBLES< with, and here they are:

For the week of February 11:
-The Science of Things on the charts this week:
United States--#80 <Billboard 200>
Germany--#51 <Top 100 Albums>
-"The Chemicals Between Us" on the charts this week:
United States--#12 <Modern Rock>
-"Letting the Cables Sleep" on the charts this week:
United States--#11 <Modern Rock>

Anywho, what I thought was quite cool and interesting to see were the chart
positions from exactly five years ago: Sixteen Stone was at number 92 on
Billboard's Top 200 Albums Chart.
Well, I suppose they do have a little piece of history somewhere... =)
There is more than that of course, I'm only kidding!

Also, an interview with Gavin is at the barnesandnoble.com website. If you
would like to read it now, just scroll down.
Later!

INTERVIEW

MY FAVORITE THINGS
Bush's Gavin Rossdale

Since first appearing on the scene in 1994 with the post-grunge chart-topper
SIXTEEN STONE, Bush have managed to keep their hold on the collective psyche
of angst-ridden America -- evidenced by their fall 1999 release, THE SCIENCE
OF THINGS -- even as most of the band's alterna-rock peers have fallen by
the wayside, victims of the current fascination with teen-pop and metal-rap.
The band's charismatic frontman, Gavin Rossdale, took time out from
blanketing Europe's lowlands with minor chords and melancholy to talk with
bn.com's David Sprague about what makes him -- and Bush -- tick.

barnesandnoble.com: When you were a teenager, was there anyone you used to
imitate in front of the mirror?

Gavin Rossdale: I thought Elvis was really amazing, especially in "King
Creole," so there was a bit of that. I also loved Bruce Lee, so I suppose
there was a combination of those two, and probably still is.

bn.com: What about in more recent times: Did you do much serious listening
while recording the new album?

GR: I listen to a lot of music except when I'm doing serious writing or
recording. It gets too confusing, because I think that records should
reflect your state of mind, and if there's outside things entering into the
picture, you dilute that.

bn.com: It would seem that you prefer darker-sounding things.

GR: Yes, that's a fair assumption. I quite like Low, the band from
Minnesota. They're absolutely mesmerizing. I get much the same feeling from
anything that Will Oldham does, especially the early Palace Brothers, and
the one with "Riding at Dawn" on it. Lately, I've been listening to Wheat's
HOPE AND ADAMS as well.

bn.com: How about when you want to shift out of that mood?

GR: To lift up, or to get ready to go out, you mean? Well, I might put on
Snoop Dogg or something by Shellac [whose leader, Steve Albini, has produced
Bush]. There's also something about Aphex Twin that connects with me in a
weird way.

bn.com: Bush have often been cited as one of the more American-sounding
British bands of the past decade...do you think that's a valid description?

GR: I find it a bit frustrating that people can't hear the grounding in
bands like Public Image or My Bloody Valentine, which I can hear quite
clearly. People need to simplify things for themselves, though, and since we
don't sound like Brit-pop, they'll say we sound "American."

bn.com: Nigel, your guitarist, took a temporary leave from the band before
the current tour. How did you choose Andy Cohen as his replacement?

GR: I'm a big fan of Silkworm, Andy's main band, and I've always listened
intently to their records. He's got a very different style than Nigel, which
helps keep things interesting. It also allows me to play more solos.

bn.com: Do you and your girlfriend [No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani] argue very
much about what goes on the stereo?

GR: Not really. She's very open to new things and much more forgiving than I
am when it comes to music -- which makes sense, since she's a much nicer
person than I am. When I'm not around, she just plays the Cure all the time,
which is fine. I like the Cure as well.

chronicles Peter's experience with the band during these tours, especially

roll stardom. Bushnet.com will feature an exclusive interview and online
chat with the author and photographer soon, so stay tuned for details. The
book is being published through Omnibus for $19.95. Peter is also launching

According to some people, the idea came from a 1973 movie titled "Last Tango
in Paris" where two people fall in love while looking for an apartment.  If
you are going to see the movie, keep in mind that it's rated X...

09.19.99
-An update on the Tommy Hilfiger fashion show from the New York Times:
"The mind boggles at the contrasts between the show Hilfiger staged on
Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden (in the adjacent smaller theater but
still the Garden) and the one Adrover put on an hour later downtown. Hilfiger
had Bush, the British rock band, on the stage, while the audience sat facing
the runway, away from the band. The way the stony-faced crowd ignored the
boys in the band -- well, you would have thought they were playing to a
retirement home. The musicians got so mad, or at least seemed to, that when
the show was over and everyone was going for the exits, the lead guitarist
shouted, "Thank you very much," except the "thank" came out as a swear word."
--------Perhaps Gavin said "F*ck you very much"?
09.15.99:
-Just when you thought you were going to see BUSH again this fall at one of
the radio shows they are headlining, the unthinkable happens: Nigel is not
able to play due to a family emergency (the "emergency" is not yet being
released by BUBBLES. We'll let you know when it happens!). After rehearsing
with the rest of the band in NYC, Andy Cohen from Silkworm (who is a friend
of Nigel's) will be taking his place for the mini-tour. For tour dates,
09.13.99:
-Bush on the catwalk? You heard right! Tomorrow, Bush will be playing at a
Tommy Hilfiger fashion show at Madison Square Gardens in New York City.
Unfortunately, this show is not open to the public. Televised? Very
possible...

>TELEVISION<
-The MTV Video Music Awards finally occured on 9-9-99. Gavin Rossdale
presented the award for Best Female Video (won by Lauryn Hill) with actress
Susan Sarandon. Some BUSHy highlights of the evening: While walking to the
podium, "The Chemicals Between Us" was being played; At the podium, Gavin
talked about "growing up in the 70's," listening to punk and reggae
(rebellious music at the time) and finally meeting Patti Smith; Robin
Goodridge attended the awards as well. Ok, so what did the guys look like
this time? Robin's hair (with the red highlights) was slicked back and was
wearing all back. Gavin, on the other hand, wore a slicked back 'do as well,
but this time, he went for the red look...bright red, as well as wearing a
white suit type outfit. We only wish the guys would have played!!
-BUSH is definitely making a come back as Gavin warned us at Woodstock.
