This is not particularly Cajun or Zydeco, but I am looking for a
Louisiana song that includes the words:
"It's not 'how are you,' or 'how you're doing' it's 'hey, where ya
at!"
Has anyone ever heard of the song that says this?
Thanks,

Ok Ya'll here goes nothing.......this email is from the AccordionMan Andy
Bakke in St. Augustine, Florida. I'm a full time musician now and instead of
washing dishes inbetween gigs I am giving the Accordion business a whirl
since I also do repair work. Back in 1998 I simply was asked if I could
sequence a Cajun tune and one thing lead to another, and another and now I am
selling Cajun Boxes? I'm eating Cajun food, playing Cajun music and having a
blast doing all of the above. I love the people, the food, the culture and
would especially like to thank a little old Cajun lady named Grace Soileau
for sending me a care package of Cajun Spices, specialties and a Dewey Balfa
CD to get me started.

I would especially like to that Gary Hayman for twisting Debbie Boland's arm
and letting me into the Crawfish Festival in Fort Lauderdale, my Band Bayou
Teche did a great job backing me up and we had a very good time at last years
events.

Here's what I've gotten into since the Festival........

<A
HREF="http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1483301251">http://\
cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1483301251</A>

I own an Ariette by Hohner which actually is ok of a box but not as good as
one of Larry Miller's boxes I tried at the Fort Lauderdale Crawfish Festival.
Larry's boxes are superb but was out of my price range that I could afford.
I have also tried a Martin and they are equally as great but I just can't
afford one.

This may be a round about way but I ended up in unique situation. I designed
and built my 1956 Hohner Piano Accordion with Midi. I hooked up with an
Accordion company wanting my design and ended up being an Accordion dealer
overnight.

<A
HREF="http://user.aol.com/accrdnmn/Accordions.html">http://user.aol.com/accrdnmn\
/Accordions.html</A>

Now I have something in the price Range of the Hohner Ariette with four more
pleets to give it more lung power and the bass buttons spaced far enough
apart that I can now play it correctly with the proper hand position!! Now I
also can have several keys for the price of ONE Accordion!! Wow......am I in
heaven or what?

I won't break out the Champagne till I sell one but I do have a bottle
chilling in the Fridge......just in case!!

Hi folks. Just a reminder that Motordude Zydeco will be at the Eagles Hall in
Alameda, this Friday, November 9th.Music is at 9,with a dance lesson at 8.Wanted
to thank everyone who came last week to hear the wonderful sounds of Tom Rigney
and Flambeau. It was the last show that Joe Paquin, the guitarist, accordion and
rubboard player, who has played with Tom for 17 years, will be doing with him
for awhile,as Joe is moving to Ventura County, Southern Cal. We wish him the
best of luck in his new endevors.

Also, it was a special night,as Diane Dwyer, weekend anchor for the 10 o'clock
News on Channel 2 here in Oakland, came and celebrated her birthday with about
20 of her friends. All nice, pleasant folks, who had a great time. She had seen
the video that John Mackenzie shot with his brother,Bob,who's also a reporter
for Channel 2,and thought it would be a nice way to spend a birthday. I couldn't
agree more, and again it was a pleasant night.

Speaking of Scorpio birthday's,and there seems to be a bunch of them, next
week,November 16th, Mark St.Mary and his Zydeco Band will be playing for mine.I
usually don't push my birthday party, but wanted to remind people that the
Zydeco Funketeers will be making their return to the Hall. They always seem to
at this time of year.So if hard-core,old-school Zydeco, mixed with old-school
funk is your thing, bring it down next week to the Hall.

Also, don't forget that tickets are now on sale for both Thanksgiving
Weekend,with the Flames,Andre,and Willis Prudhomme playing Nov.23-25.

And,finally, Tickets are also on sale for New Year's Eve Blowout, 4 days of
Zydeco, with Brian Jack and the Zydeco Gamblers, from Houston, Texas.Andre
Thierry, Kenny Menard, and Lil'Malcolm and the Zydeco Houserockers.

See you soon, and thanks for the support.Keep on dancing,

Dana DeSimone.

Joan--

There has been a significant change in the airing of "Bayou Country" on
KVMR-FM, 89.5FM in Nevada City (and the north Sacramento valley) or 103.7
in Auburn.
The show will now air only on the first and second Saturdays of each month.
(This is subject to some variation because of membership drives or my trips
to Louisiana, but should average two times per month.)

This coming Saturday is the 9th anniversary of "Bayou Country", so we will
try to make it extra special. We will feature the best music from the best
CDs released in the last nine years. Listeners are invited to make their
requests now to dalejohn@....

addenda info

I trained at KVMR with my good friend Frieda Fusilier (the real Cajun) in
the 1993 broadcaster's training class, and started doing the show on a
regular basis in March of 1995.
Frieda decided that I needed a "Cajun name" in early 1995, when she had to
resign from the show because of the time/distance/late night driving/going
to work the next morning/ issues.
Her recommendation was "Le Blanc", which to me means "The White Person". So
that is the story about that --- this white guy (I am 50% Swedish and the
rest mostly English Isle stuff) is playing the music of the Cajuns and
Creoles of French Louisiana. Also, since I am old enough, I appreciate the
early R&B/R&R music evolution and present Cajun and Creole versions of this
music on my show ------- the music that has become known as "swamp pop"

Hi Everyone,

I just got back from almost 2 weeks in SW Louisiana. It was a
terrific trip filled with wonderful music, good friends, & great
food. Two of the many highlights from my stay included 1) a benefit
held for the American Red Cross at Grant Street Ballroom in Lafayette
which featured Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, Geno Delafose &
French Rockin' Boogie, Sonny Landreth, Michael Doucet & Jimmy Breaux
of BeauSoleil, Damon Troy, Chris Stafford and others, and 2) a tour
of the music vaults at legendary Flat Town Music in Ville Platte,
courtesy of Floyd Soileau's son, Chris. The link to the story and
photos can be found at www.sfbayou.com under the "What's New"

See you on the dance floor,

Hello everyone, and here's hoping folks are in fine spirits. Some of you may not
be,as this last Sunday was a great day. My beloved 49'ers beat the Saints,AND
the Raiders got beat by the Seahawks of Seattle.Ah,one can't say enough about
those Raiders, huh?. Anyway, wanted to let people know about this Friday,November
16th.Mark St.Mary and his Zydeco Band will be playing, and like my message from
last week, we will be celebrating my birthday and the return of the Zydeco
Funkateers. It will be a nice,old-school night of funk and Zydeco, so come out if
the spirit moves you. As usual, dance lesson at 8, music at 9.

Also, as I also said in my last email, Next weekend is Thanksgiving and we will
have dances on all three nights of the weekend, with the Zydeco Flames on
Friday, Andre Thierry and Zydeco Magic on Sat.,and Willis Prudhomme on Sunday,at
5:30. Dance prices will be $13/12 for the Friday Flames show, and $11 for Andre
and also for Willis. A dance package is available for a reduced amount. If
interested, come on Friday, and talk to Linda at the door, or email me.

Thanks again for the support and remember to keep dancing.

Dana.

Yes, this looks pretty good!

For what it's worth, I hope it is a good Cajun band from Louisiana that is
added to this roster, so as to keep a balance between Cajun and zydeco

Just a last minute reminder that tonight at Ashkenaz Music and Dance Club
there will be a fragrance free dance held, featuring the Zydeco Flames.

This event is for everyone, not just for people who are allergic to
fragrance products. However, we are asking people not to wear fragrance
products to this event.

This is the first event like this in the Cajun/Zydeco dance community in the
Bay Area, and we hope people will support it, and pay attention to the
impact these products have on the health of others.

The evening starts at 7:30pm with a dance lesson, and music starts at 8pm.
This is a great band. Come out and enjoy yourselves.

If you have any questions about what fragrance free means, please contact me
via email, or telephone me at 510-525-5061. To avoid any disappointment,
its important to sort out any misunderstandings before you get to the door.

If all else fails, read the label of any personal hygiene products you use.
If it says "fragrance" anywhere on it, don't wear it.

#1-rated show,
Comic View. Lil' Brian is tonight, 11/20, & Sean Ardoin is
Thanksgiving
Night, 11/22. Both acts kick off their respective shows, so if you
catch the
first five minutes you'll see the their whole performance. The
shows air at

Of course, you'll also notice that Buckwheat Zydeco's "What You

Sat. Dec. 15

The California Cajun Orchestra's Farewell Dance Party -- after 18 years, we
are disbanding the CCO; it just doesn't feel right without Danny Poullard.

We will have one last dance at Ashkenaz on Sat. Dec. 15, and we are bringing
in Edward Poullard (Danny's brother who is a great fiddler, accordion
player, and singer) from Beaumont, Texas, and also former CCO member Kevin
Wimmer (who now lives in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, and plays with Balfa
Toujours).

Other former band members and associates will be sitting in too and it
should be quite a party!

Gary,
Sorry to bother you but we did not receive the latest issue of ZydE-Zine.
None of the 3 sections came through. Any assistance would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks, in advance.
