Bajan band Square One has been off the radar for
sometime but the band is back with a new album
showcasing some of its biggest hits – in steel pan.
The yet untitled album, is a 15-track collectors'
item featuring not only the best songs but some
of the best artistes in the land, led by pannist
and former Square One keyboardist and musical director Terry "Mexican" Arthur.
Other artistes featured on the album are Nicholas
Brancker (bass); Arturo Tappin (saxophones);
former Square One vocalists Alison Hinds and
Anderson ‘Blood’ Armstrong; Kimberly Inniss;
Kee-Ann Walters; duo Pong and Contone; Indra
Rudder; Don Trent; Mac Fingall; seven-time
calypso monarchs Red Plastic Bag and Gabby;
seven-time Tune-Of-The-Crop king Grynner; and
Toni Hurricane Hinkson, who did a DJ mix to two tracks.
Produced mainly at the internationally acclaimed
Lethal Studio, where Def Jam artistes Ne-Yo and
Rihanna recently recorded, it's expected to be a
collectors' dream, with ten of the tracks done by
Lethal's Deepu Panjwani and Ricardo Slick Hinkson.
Noting it was hard selecting the songs since
Square One had so many hits over its 17 years of
existence, the “lethal men” said the other five
tracks were recorded by Blood and Bubbles. These
include ‘Bridgetown Market’ by Gabby, ‘Come Back
Again’ by the Tradewinds, and newer numbers,
including a mid-tempo jazzy groove by Blood himself.
