The Waylon Tribute CD came out today -- Lonesome On'ry & Mean. I may
have a bias, but by far the most interesting track is Carlene's. (OK,
a close second is the Norah Jones cover of Wurlitzer Prize.) She does
Waylon's 1978 hit, "I've Always Been Crazy." Lyrics that hit home:
I've always been crazy and the trouble that it's put me through
Been busted for things that I did, and I didn't do
>>SNIP<<
I've always been crazy but it's kept me from going insane
Nobody knows if it's something to bless or to blame
So far I ain't found a rhyme or a reason to change
Carlene sounds in great voice -- and lets out a little chuckle at the
last line quoted above.
IMHO, the CD itself is a little disappointing. Waylon's music is
soooo cool, and most of these remakes pale compared to the originals.
Exceptions: Carlene, Jones, Guy Clark, Alejandro Escovedo.
