Carlene Carter says it'll be tough to play her mom - the late June
Carter Cash - in a biographical musical called Wildwood Flowers: The
June Carter Story.
"It's really hard to step into my mother's shoes, but I'm going to
try to at least wear one of her hats," Carlene said yesterday, after
singing three songs with cousin Lorrie Davis Bennett at the Country
Music Hall of Fame's Ford Theater.
Lorrie will portray her own mother, June's sister Anita Carter, in
the production. Angela Bennett (no relation to Lorrie) is the
executive producer of the show, which runs from July 12-31 at the
BellSouth Acuff Theatre.
Carlene plans to revive some of her mom's famous comedy routines and
facial expressions. At the Hall, she imitated June's ability to cross
her eyes.
"I was going to do a cartwheel in the show, but I tried one the other
day and just about broke my hip. I'm going to stick to the
eye-crossing."
