Thanks, Charles & dear everyone !

I've found much more HOES releases on www.archives.org.

Tomorrow (6th July 2010) I'll run my broadcasting-show with some of these 4th July releases - nice theme, also 2 days later :-)

It will be streamed on www.radiox.de/live from 9 pm to 10 pm GMT+1 or +2 (I don't exactly know, because we have summertime here in Germany and I'm quite silly in these things ;-)

But you can check it out before - my show starts live at 8 pm, even only the second hour each 1st Tuesday a month is dedicated to cassette-culture. Enjoy !!

Carsten / Mr. Ebu / Herr Ebu / Ebus Music

Dear Friends and Listeners,

It has been a while since you have heard any news about the
das kleine field recordings festival.
Now there is.
( scroll down for the announcement)

I have written a short explanation why this break happened here
http://dkfrf.wordpress.com/2010/07/27/3-august-tales-for-tapes-volume-5/

In addition to this change of view,
I have tried out a new way of recording
which followed the definition
"field recordings are recordings made outside a studio."

I figured that my fourtrack was my studio.
So I went outside and used the speakers of my dictaphones and walkman as a sound source
and the iPhone of my girlfriend as the recorder.

results can be heard on this weeks edition of framework
http://www.murmerings.com/radio/playlists10.html
or on Hans W.Koch's Sounds of my Neighbourhood

I almost didn't think this month's update was going to happen due to summer holidays, various domestic things, a bout of sickness and the arrival of Coil's Colour Sound Oblivion DVD boxset but a bit later than expected here's details of this month's update.
Hope there's something of interest. Me, I'm gonna sit down and watch the 14 or so Coil live shows.
Enjoy the summer sun – if you're lucky enough to be basking in it!
Best Wishes
Tony

TWEET DIGEST #6 (july 2010)

July's SB Tweet Digest brings you pics from this year's Rietveld Graduation
Show, links to Morton Feldman's "For Philip Guston" and to Anthony Carcone's
Chinoiseries d't, a five hour radio show for France Musique on the
non-academic experimentalmusic scene in China.
It also is our this summer's commercial break, as it will warp you on to six
classic SB related albums that are now available for (free) listening and (paid)
download in hi-quality digital formats at Bandcamp:

* "Commuters", our (again out of print) 1982 collaboration with Dagmar Krause;
* the 2003 "Sound Chronicles", available now for the first time ever in better
than mp3 format;
* Akai/el. guit./MS20 Frippertronic classic "Signs & Symptoms" (1980);
* ookoi's 2005 "Muziektafel" now as a digital album download with five
additional previously unreleased tracks and a video bonus.

Last, but certainly not least, you'll find two highly collectible albums by the
Young Lions, undeniably the most original of post-punk experimental pop outfits
active in Amsterdam at the end of the 1970s / early 1980s. Now officially
available for the first tim since their original limited 1980s release on
cassette:
* "Through training and battle (1979-1980)" and "Small World". The digital
downloads come with many extra's. "Small World" e.g. includes the very rare
black and white video footage of the band performing the album's opening track,
'Like the dreaded sunday', at Ultra's in Oktopus, Amsterdam, on 22 October 1980.

All payments you might care to make for downloads of albums or individual tracks
go straight to the artists, who will put it to good use and make you even
happier in the future!

HT003 - C60 - Swamp Patrol 84 (1983) Jaffe, McGee, and David Mattingly lo-tech primitive noise jams, tape cut-ups, collage, dada shenanigans. This tape was originally made in edition of 100 for Level Mail Art zine.
HT004 - C54 - Viscera: A Whole Universe Of Horror Movies (1984) Classic mid-1980s doom and gloom industrial-pop vocals plus minimal Moog synth and Casio songs. Kind of like early Cabaret Voltaire meets The Residents meets Throbbing Gristle meets Yoko Ono. Recommended
HT005 - C87 - Occupant: No Specific Answer (1984) Early minimal solo echo-laden electronic keyboard drone works by Hal McGee that prefigure Dog As Master
HT006 - C77 - Viscera: Who Is This One (1984) // Hot And Cold (1985) The third and fourth Viscera cassettes on one tape. 4-track songs of minimal synth doom, drug psychosis, dark eroticism

Devices is 4-track opera-mangle & miscellaneous sounds collage, originally released on the GGE Records label.

The September 2010 issue of The Living Archive Of Underground Music is now
available.

http://www.doncampau.com/livingarchive.htm

After a month's hiatus that involved numerous computer issues and other delays,
The Living Archive is back celebrating it's one year anniversary with all new
content regarding Cassette Culture and underground music.

This month I am honored to bring you an interview with Hal McGee, one of the
most important underground artists and creative forces of our time. This in
depth piece may be the definitive interview with this essential and visionary
artist.
I am also offering my own double tape set from 1987, "Pinata Party" as the Tape
Of The Month with extensive notes about the making of this project and link to
free download/streaming of the entire set.
There are also contributions by Jack Hertz who profiles Music From The Film ( a
Baltimore area experimental group), Dan Susnara ( Chicago home taper) on meeting
various home tapers, Pascal Dauzier ( of SJ Organisation and La Sonorite Jaune)
in the Early Experiences section and much more.

As always, I welcome your comments and involvement with future issues of The
Living Archive.

Thanks,Don Campau

Dear Gerard,

Please connect us to the Last FM group.  We released tapes as "Mud Pie" in the 80's and 90's and are back recording.  The old tapes are still available at our website and on Acid Tapes.  We're about to finish up a new album that'll go out in multiple formats, including cassette I hope.

Thanks for keeping up the Yahoo and LastFM pages.  I've been enjoying the posts.

ROAMING RUNNING DICTAPHONES (flying, bumping, hopping, hiking)

Lauri Warsta sent a parcel with a recording dictaphone through the mail, from
London to Helsinki. She visualized the recording device's journey in a nice
short animation, called 'Dictaphone Parcel'. In it Lauri uses extracts from the
recording made by the dictaphone on its journey as a soundtrack. It, however,
left me with a great many question and made me so curious that as an experiment
I decided to try a 'quick 'n' dirty' re-make of the 'travelling dictaphone':
instead of sending it, I played mr. postman myself. I put a parcel with a
recording dictaphone in a small rucksack and took it all the way from Amsterdam
to Maastricht. By foot, by train, by bus, by bus and finally by foot again...

Could it be that barking dogs are a roaming running recorder's destiny?

As a PS. to the previous post:
Sending a running cassette recorder through the mail is sort of an 'obvious'
idea. Among us 'Parisian cassetteurs' it did pop up regularly, though we never
actually 'did it'. Partly because I've always been convinced that this was an
'old story', over and done with. But having seen Lauri's film and trying to come
up with an earlier documented example, I can't.
Anyone in this group knows of this happening before?

best,
harold schellinx
