Heuwell Tircuit's review of Michael Grebanier's performance in the
Beethoven Triple Concerto in C Major, Op. 56 (Sat. 2/14/04, SF
Symphony, Sir Neville Marriner, guest conductor) appears in the
latest issue of SF Classical Voice:
http://www.sfcv.org/arts_revs/sfsym_2_17_04.php.
"The super-hero of the performance was the amazing Grebanier, tossing
off the brute of a cello part as if it were nothing to bother over."
"One might never guess how difficult this cello writing is, from
seeing and hearing Grebanier's performance. He just sat there, calm
as a Buddha, emitting luxurious sounds, perfectly in tune and
elegantly phrased within rhythmic propriety. I have never encountered
a performance so naturally musical. Over the years, I've seen major
cellists barely getting through some white-knuckle performances of
the Beethoven Triple, but Grebanier topped nearly all of them."
