"Strings magazine seeks a Lutherie Editor with a professional
knowledge of violin-family instruments, both antique and
contemporary, and their pickups, amplifiers, and accessories. The
qualified candidate can demonstrate his/her technical aptitude and
interest in staying abreast of developments in the music products
industry; the practical and interpersonal skills required of a writer
and editor of service journalism who works independently and to
deadline; and the ability to play a violin-family instrument well
enough to evaluate a variety of instruments and related products for
a professional readership. A classical music background is desirable
but not essential. Responsibilities include writing, assigning, and
editing product-related features and reviews; traveling to trade
shows, shops, and manufacturers; and communicating regularly with the
violin-making and music-products community. This is a part-time, in-
office position requiring 14 hours per week, plus travel to 4-5
music/lutherie conferences a year. (Candidates who bring broader
editorial skills may be considered for a full-time job with
