I, too, was a huge Go-Betweens fan ever since I heard
"The House That Jack Kerouac Built" on college radio. Soon after, I started
off by purchasing the "16 Lover's Lane" CD and playing "Streets of Your
Town"
(a Grant composition) over and over again. That song found its
way to many a compilation tape I made. I even tracked down a
6-7 song live VHS tape of a concert they did in 1983.
The Go-Betweens were one of the most underrated bands of their time.
I'm just shocked right now. Unbelieveable.
He will be truly missed.

Subject: [chameleons] Sad news
I'm sure I'm not the only person here who listens to the Go-Betweens, so I
thought I'd mention for anyone who hasn't heard: on Saturday, Grant
McLennan died in his sleep at his home in Brisbane. He was just 48 years
old.
This one really hits home for me. I came to the Go-Betweens late--first
heard "Streets of Your Town" on the radio in 1988--but they soon became
one of my favorite bands. Since then I've spent many joyful hours
listening to, singing, and playing McLennan's songs (both those he wrote
for the Go-Betweens and his solo work, which is as good if not better than
what he did with the band). They're songs of simple beauty that have
never gotten old for me. Sadly, though, there won't be any more.
Goodbye, Grant, and thank you.
