Didn't Tony Scott study with Varese? I seem to remember from his
interview in the Bobby Reisner book on Bird that he would play Bird
for Varese, who fell in love with Bird and would tell Scott: "Play
Birdie for me, Play Birdie for me!" Or perhaps I am having a senior
moment and it was some other composer as I don't have the book in
front of me.
