RE: [charlie-parker] Salt Peanuts

Sorry Paul, I was being lazy in my previous response. Here are the other live versions:

Dizzy Gillespie and His Rebop Six - 1946 Jan 24 - WEAF radio broadcast, possibly the Rudy Vallee Show
Charlie Parker Quintet - 1948 Dec 12 - Royal Roost, New York
Charlie Parker Quintet - 1949 May 6,9,14,15 - Salle Pleyel, Paris, France
Charlie Parker Quintet - 1949 Feb 19 - Royal Roost, New York
Charlie Parker Quintet - 1949 Feb 5 - Royal Roost, New York
Charlie Parker Quintet - 1949 Jan 22 - Royal Roost, New York
Charlie Parker Quintet - 1949 (?) March 28 - April 10 - Pershing Hotel Ballroom, Chicago, Illinois
Charlie Parker Quintet - 1950 Dec 8 - Birdland, New York

Curious to know about the 1947 version you speak of?  I have no record of a version at that time or place?? Perhaps you are referring to the Massey Hall concert?  It begins with Parker saying, "At this time we would like to play a new tune. It was composed by my worthy constituent, Mr Dizzy Gillespie in the year of 1942.  We sincerely hope you do enjoy Salt peanuts."

Subject: [charlie-parker] Salt Peanuts

Can anyone possibly tell me whether he or she is familiar with any live
recording of "Salt Peanuts" (with Charlie and Dizzy) other than the
1947 Carnegie Hall version?

I remember a couple years ago hearing a fantastic performance of it on
an FM jazz station here in Los Angeles and I've since bought a CD of a
studio recording of it (which lasts only a few minutes) and just
recently got a CD of the 1947 Carnegie performance (which is only about
5 minutes long), but neither of these somehow seems like what I
remember having heard, which seemed to go on and on and was one of the
most fabulous and exciting jazz recordings I ever heard.   The radio
station, when I wrote to them, wasn't able to track down the DJ who
played it since I couldn't remember his name(!) and didn't keep a
record of what was aired.

I'd really greatly appreciate any info about this.   My e-mail address
is:  forlino@....

Paul

Massey Hall perhaps?? It is the best live version. If you buy the CD, look for the complete concert not the Mingus re-dub. You'll know the complete version...
