Hi Everybody,
I know I've been out of touch for a long time, but for reasons I
don't understand I was unable to access this part of the site.
Anyhow, it seems to be worked out now and here I am! Well, to catch
up: I started the year doing Mark Hummel's Harmonica Blowout with
Mark and his band and Kim Wilson and James Cotton. Along the way
there were other openers at different venues like the great Ron
Thompson and David Barrett and Lazy Lester and many more - all great
artists. Mark put together a cool package. My good friend Rick Estrin
even came by and sat in with us in Oakland. For me, it was a ball to
be on the road with old friends that I've always admired. Everyday,
every gig was a ton of fun and I was sorry when it ended. I hope we
can all get together and do it again.
After that tour ended I got home for about two days and then started
another tour - this time with The Sanctuary Band featuring the
members of the band on my Sanctuary CD: Charlie Sexton, Michael
Jerome and Jared Nickerson. What a great band. Everyone of those guys
is a great musician and person too. We played the west coast as far
north as Vancover BC and as far south as The House of Blues in
Hollywood. We made a video of one of the live shows which I hope
someday we can release on a DVD.
The new Blind Boys of Alabama CD will be out soon and as I play on
several of the tracks I'll be doing some shows with them in Ireland.
Also a show in Oxford, Mississppi. It's always great to be around the
Blind Boys and being on stage with them is a wonderful experience.
I have dates coming up with my own touring band which consists of Kid
Andersen on guitar, June Core on drums and Randy Bermudes on bass in
Kutztown PA; Del Mar CA; San Diego CA; Phoenix; Salt Lake City;
Petaluma CA; Pleasonton CA; Wheeling W Va; Sonora CA; Napa CA; San
Francisco and Lucerne, Switzerland with more dates coming in all the
time.
In June I'll be touring New Zealand. NZ is a really interesting
place. Clean air, clean water, happy and healthy people; a beautiful
country. Reminds me of how America was a long time ago. Oh, don't get
me started.
I hope you all can come and see me at a gig near you. Stop by after
the show and say hello. Come early stay late and bring your dancing
shoes. Well, I got to go now and I'll try to be checking back in with
you all more often. -Charlie Musselwhite
