Hi

How did you get my email address? Trane
was the best ever for me Maybe you would be
interested in this
club?
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/johncoltrane
Im not really
familiar with Johnny Hartman but the
heard the great talk about him. Im kinda limited money
wise. Im real into the pianist Bill Evans, McCoy, Sonny
Rollins, Jackie McLean, Sonny Stitt, Parker, Adderly,
Dizzy, Clifford Brown, Miles Davis, Dolphy, Ben Webster,
Stan Getz, and the new guys Branford Marsalis, and Joe
Lovano is so cool too.
BUT I want to say is how much
I really love Kenny Dorham. Now Im not really into
his writing but man the guy was so awesome as a
sideman with Parker and Blakey! He is so so underrated
and kinda had his own thing to me. So cool, I love
him.
These guys stand out way ahead of everyone else to me.
I have 2 coltrane books of transcriptions, and a
book called the john coltrane companion with
interviews and criticism. I also have 50 or more Coltrane
CD's and theyre all awesome! Theres a lot more I want
to get too but Im kind of giong for the fusion
electric stuff now, and want to have a more diversified
collection. Im a guitar player who studies horn and piano of
the greats and have been playing 16 yrs. Im 32 now so
thats half my life. I read that Coltrane didnt start
playing horn till he was 18! I died when I heard that.
1. I think you can help me. Can you list the
recordings released that Coltrane did with Dizzy? Im
especially interested in those ones cause I seem to have
stuff from every other era of his.
2. It seems all
of the discographies I have found are uncomplete and
inadequate, maybe you would consider preparing one
chronologically?

I have to say that my favorite Coletrane that Ive
heard is as follows (not in order):
1 Transition,
the title track
2. all of living space
3
Coltrane- out of this world, miles mode, and big nick
4
afro blue impressions 1963: sister mary, naima, afro
blue
5 afro blue from birdland
6 birdland vol 2 with
eric dolphy espec miles mode and mr PC body and soul
is good too, i am aware of the importance of this
hawkins tune to both trane and brid
7. chasing another
trane from newport 63 with dolphy and roy
hanes

speaking of roy hanes he just did a cd with ex-chic corea
bassist john pattitucci and hes 75, man what a
monster!

Im aware that elvin and sonny rollins are still
around also...

Its really nice to meet you and
look forward to hearing from you, if you can get a
discography togather, im sure a lot of people would be
interested! By the way have you seen the new box sets that
have been coming out?

By the way,
my name

unfortunately I erased it. Needless to say I'm John Coltrane
fan. I was introduced to him by accident. When I was

and got to run through this record store for 90
seconds. I got 2,000 dollars worth of records. I got every
John Coltrane album. I also was doing syrup at the
time (it was the purest form of
>codeine). I
was privileged to experience the most wonderful form
of jazz.
>Clear, pure, awesome. I learned so
much peace and happiness from this music and I never

it as much as I do. I researched and learned
everything I could about John and his band.
>I saw
McCoy Tyner live at Baker's keyboard in Detroit. As
well as, Elvin Jones , the drummer, at the same place.
They were the best bands I ever heard. I've heard Rock
'n' Roll live and on record they don't hold a candle
to John Coltrane based jazz. I have many more idols
of jazz including Coleman Hawkins, Miles, Duke,
Benson, and Charlie Mingus. If you have not been
introduced to Johnny Hartman you're missing the gre
