altoists poll. I omitted Sonny Stitt because he's no
longer living, but I certainly agree that he's probably
the second best bebop alto player after Bird, and one
of the best tenorists as well (and has anyone else
heard him on baritone? He was awesome on that horn,
too). <br><br>RJRuland, for a great Phil Woods album
I'd recommend "An Affair To Remember." It was
released in the U.S. about two or three years ago and
consists of his interpretations of some relatively obscure
"standards." Very melodic playing. <br><br>For Lee Konitz,
it's hard to recommend just one representative CD
because his style has evolved so much over the years, and
because he records so prolifically, but "Jazz Exchange,
Volume I" with the great Warne Marsh on tenor saxophone
is a personal favorite of mine.
