Friends,
The memorial service for singer Nancy Mulenex took place last Sunday in
Washington, DC. Four choral groups and two vocal soloists performed in the
service. The choral groups, whom Nancy sang with, were the Washington
Saengerbund, a group labeled "Ad Hoc Singers," the All Souls Episcopal
Church choir, and a group of ten Sacred Harp singers. We Sacred Harpers
sang "Wondrous Love" (p 159) and "Hallelujah" (p 146), and they seemed to
be appropriate choices. Our previous plan to sing "Sing to Me of Heaven"
was scrapped shortly before the service when we discovered that some of the
singers were unfamiliar with it and others need more practice to get the
rhythm down. It was a nice, albeit formal and restrained, service, in my
opinion.
The main reason I am writing this is that I found a photo of Nancy put on
the Web during the past few days at the Saengerbund members' site at
http://www.geocities.com/saengerbund/members.html . If you did not
previously recognize her name, you may recognize her face, as she did come
to our singings several times a year, as well as the Potomac River
Convention for the past several years.
