Hello, y'all/vous autres!
As you probably know, several groups from France are coming in
October-November to help us celebrate the Marquis. Le Centre is looking
for host families to lodge couples, probably for 3 or 4 nights. Here is
the information:
As part of our ongoing « Marquis de La Fayette 2007 : The Spirit of the
Marquis » celebration, we are holding a major festival, “La Belle
Journée Historic Festival” in downtown Lafayette on Saturday and Sunday,
November 3 and 4.
During this event, we will be fortunate enough to host “La Galinette,” a
folkloric dance troupe from Le Puy-en-Velay, France. The group will
bring approximately 10 dancers and musicians, and be in Lafayette from
November 1-5 (4 nights). They will perform several times at the free
festival during their stay.
We will also host a group from France Louisiane – Franco Américanie.
Composed of four couples, the group will arrive in Lafayette on November
1 and leave from New Orleans November 10. They will participate in the
festival in period costumes. (This is May talking: they won't be here
for the full 10 days.)
We are seeking 9 families willing to host 2 people each during this
time. They will take their meals at the festival, so we are seeking
lodging and breakfast. If this would be possible for you, please let us
know by return e-mail, or call us at 291-5474. We would be very grateful
if you could help us in this way, and we’re sure you will enjoy this
fine group of entertainers and their exciting traditional folk dances!
If you are able to host a couple, please reply to Ann Morgan at the
Centre, address and phone number above. If you have done this before,
you know it is really not much trouble--and you have a place to stay
when you go to France, since couples who are hosted in families know
that this is part of their responsibility. Fluency in French is NOT a
requirement! Smiles are!
Thanks!
