Dear Folks, I hope your summer is going/gone well and you are ready to get
back to singing. The Year before us looks exciting. The Oct concert is going
to be an absolute barn burner. The Ralph Vaughn Williams G minor mass is
exquisite, a cappella, double choir with solo quartet, The BENEDICITE with
full orchestra and some of RVW famous hymn arrangements that will make your
hair stand up and salute. Some new literature for the Christmas concert
along with our traditional fare. The Spring fund raiser and Spring Concert
will be combined into one concert at Heymann with guest artists PIANO4
(check out their website) and to end the year a concert with ASO.

The first rehearsal will be August 21 Monday at 7:00 PM at First
Presbyterian. It would be wonderful if we could get everyone back for the
first rehearsal. (Particularly to divide up and balance the SATB double
choir works. I am ready go ---come on along. Haygood

Friends,
After you have brunch at the Blue Dog, and before going to hear the choir at Asbury, you should go to Angelle Hall and listen to the Lafayette Concert Band!  That patriotic performance begins at 3:30. (If you're really good, you can even get in that afternoon nap!) Be sure to watch the youngest percussionist; he's our son, Philip, age 15.  Have a wonderful, musical week-end!

Once you go to see Beth Patterson perform at the Blue Dog on Sunday, go on home for a Sunday afternoon nap and then that night come to Asbury UMC(Live Oak at Johnston). That night we will be doing the Rutter Gloria, several acapella pieces and some accompanied pieces. Should be a good night of listening. You will see and hear several familiar faces and we would love to see you there. The program will begin at 7 pm. You are welcome to come in casual clothes. (I just couldn't let it pass! Tuxedos for the men and Concert Dress with black closed toe shoes and black hose with appropriate jewelry are NOT required.) Hope to see you and your friends there!

Hi, folks. Many of you remember Jeanne Gilmore, bob's wife of many years.

She died earlier this week and the funeral mass will be at St. John
Cathedral Monday May 15 at (I think) 3 p.m. She is hoping there will be
people there who sing. There won't be a choir, however.

Please check the Advertiser for details. Father Provost will be doing
the mass, from what I understand. Please tell people who knew them.

thanks.

W. A. Mozart (1756-1791)

Solemn Vespers K.339

Dixit Dominus; Confitebor; Beatus Vir; Laudate Pueri; Laudate Dominum;
Magnificat

Background
The Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, K339 (Solemn Vespers for a
Confessor) were written in 1780, the year after Mozart had reluctantly
returned home to take up the role of court organist to Hieronymous
Colloredo, the Prince Archbishop of Salzburg. It was not a happy time
for Mozart. Now in his twenties, his days of instant recognition as a
child-prodigy were over, and his last trip to Europe in search of
wealthy patronage had proved fruitless. To make matters worse, his
mother, who had travelled with him, had been taken ill and died in
Paris, and Aloysia Weber, with whom he had fallen head over heels in
love, had jilted him. Salzburg cramped his style; it was too provincial
and there was no opera house. As if that wasn't enough, Archbishop
Colloredo, sought to clip his wings and introduced liturgical reforms,
forbidding the customary use of operatic conventions in church music,
and demanding a much more direct and succinct mode of expression. It is
all the more remarkable, then, that this period of discontentment for
Mozart should be marked by an outpouring of such joyful masterpieces as
the Coronation Mass and the two wonderful sets of Vespers, of which the
The Vesperae Solennes de Confessore is the second and perhaps best known.

Dixit Dominus:
The Lord said unto my Lord, sit thou on my right hand, until I make
thine enemies thy footstool. The Lord shall send the rod of thy power
out of Sion: be thou ruler, even in the midst among thine enemies. In
the day of thy power shall the people offer thee free-will offerings
with an holy worship:the dew of thy birth is of the womb of the morning.
The Lord swore, and will not repent:Thou art a priest for ever after the
order of Melchisedech. The Lord upon thy right hand shall wound even
kings in the day of his wrath.
He shall judge among the heathen;he shall fill the places with the dead
bodies and smite in sunder the heads over divers countries.
He shall drink of the brook in the way therefore shall he lift up his head.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,and to the Holy Ghost
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without
end. Amen.

Confitebor: I will give thanks unto the Lord with my whole heart
secretly among the faithful, and in the congregation. The works of the
Lord are great sought out of all of them that have pleasure therein. His
work is worthy to be praised, and had in honour and his righteousness
endureth for ever. The merciful and gracious Lord hath so done his
marvellous work, that they ought to be had in remembrance. He hath given
meat unto them that fear him :he shall ever be mindful of his
covenant. He hath shewed his people the power of his works that he may
give them the heritage of the heathen. The works of his hands are verity
and judgement, all his commandments are true. They stand fast for ever
and ever and are done in truth and equity. He sent redemption unto his
people; he hath commanded his covenant for ever;
holy and reverend is his nameThe fear of the Lord is the beginning of
wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do thereafter; the
praise of it endureth for ever.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,and to the Holy Ghost
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end
Amen.

Beatus Vir
Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord; he hath great delight in his
commandments
His seed shall be mighty on earth the generation of the faithful shall
be blessed
Riches and plenteousness shall be in his house and his righteousness
endureth for ever.
Unto the godly there ariseth up light in the darkness: he is merciful,
loving, and righteous.
A good man is merciful, and lendeth and will guide his words with
discretion for he shall never be moved and the righteous shall be had in
everlasting remembrance: he will not be afraid of any evil tidings  for
his heart standeth fast, and believeth in the Lord. His heart is
established, and will not shrink until he see his desire upon his
enemies. He hath dispersed abroad, and given to the poor and his
righteousness remaineth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with
honour. The ungodly shall see it, and it shall grieve him he shall gnash
with his teeth, and consume away;the desire of the ungodly shall perish.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,and to the Holy Ghost.  As it was
in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end Amen.

Laudate Pueri
Praise the Lord, ye servants O praise the Name of the Lord,
Blessed be the Name of the Lord from this time forth for evermore,
The Lord's Name is praised from the rising up of the sun unto the going
down of the same
The Lord is high above all heathen and his glory above the heavens.
Who is like unto the Lord our God, that hath his dwelling so high, and
yet humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven and earth?
He taketh up the simple out of the dust and lifteth the poor out of the
mire;
That he may set him with the princes even with the princes of the people.
He maketh the barren woman to keep house and to be a joyful mother of
children.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,and to the Holy Ghosl
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without
end" Amen.

In Laudate Dominum
O praise the Lord, all ye heathen praise him, all ye nations;
For his merciful kindness is ever more and more towards us
and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Glory be to the Father, and
to the Son,and to the Holy Ghost
.As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without
end Amen.

Magnificat
My soul doth magnify the Lord and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour
For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden
For behold, from henceforth, all generations shall call me blessed
For he that is mighty hath magnified me and holy is his Name
And his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all generations.
He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the
imagination of their hearts He hath put down the mighty from their seat
and hath exalted the humble and meek;
he hath filled the hungry with good things and the rich he hath sent
empty away;
He, remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel
as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed, for ever.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,and to the Holy Ghost
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end
Amen.

worst virus ever-- CNN ANNOUNCED
PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST!!

A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever. This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee . This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for its functioning are stored.

This virus acts in the following manner:
It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the title:

"A Card for You".

As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened the computer freezes so
that the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York, according to news broadcast by CNN.

This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself.

So don't open any mails with subject: "A Virtual Card for You." As soon as you get the mail, delete it!! Even if you know the sender !!!

Please pass this mail to all of your friends.

Forward this to everyone in your address book. I'm sure most people, like myself, would rather receive this notice 25 times than not at all.

From Frances, who is off this semester due to husband's illness and reconstruction of her house, courtesy of Rita:

There will be a benefit performance of Beethoven's 9th on Monday at Carnegie by musicians from throughout the country & world.

Our son Mike (who played with Chorale at Carnegie in June) will be performing with the group.   He is a trombonist & listed among the performers.

Mike & one of our daughters, Hallie, are here until tomorrow morning when they are suppose to fly back to NY for his rehearsal at Manhattan School of Music in the PM.

He is really excited about this performance not only because it is for a good cause but because he will be performing with some major players.

Frances

Dear Folks, A reminder that we are ready to start rehearsals again for the
Spring season. The headliner of course is the Mozart REQUIEM and the Vespers
K 339. We need YOU back. MONDAY January 9 at 6:30 pm. The published schedule
says 6:30 so that will be the time. However, after Monday we will return to
a 7:00 PM start time. If you know of highly qualified singers that should be
singing with us have them contact me at 482-6015 to set up an audition. I
can do it on Monday before rehearsal or during the day on Monday. Please be
a little early to pick up music. I am looking forward to getting back to
making music again. Happy Birthday Mozart. Haygood
