Oops. NOT.
BTW, remember to get a black folder sometime before tomorrow. Remove
all the upper-left staples from the music and either side-staple or use
a 3-ring binder.
I have my music in front of me this time:
Cohan Medley -- Go from "Harrigan" right to "You're a Grand Old Flag".
Good luck.
Salute to the Armed Forces -- put "Semper Paratus" first, and put a
repeat sign in front of "Semper" and behind "you". Go ahead, I'll wait
while you get a pencil.
Hmm, hmm, humm...
Put somewhere in there that we're singing unison melody throughout.
Don't let the "Aye" in the first piece throw you. Straight eighths in
measure 14, come in on "two" in measure 16. Words in measure 54-55:
"live in fame or go down in flame" Measure 57: "Force" is a dotted
half note, but it only gets TWO beats in 12/8. Syncopation in measure
68. The melody goes down in an unusual way in measure 71. Syncopation
again in measure 72. Measure 76: be ready! Measure 80: break into
parts for the first time in the song. Note that the basses have the
third of the chord. Insert a measure 82 1/2 that looks just like 82
except the lyrics are "Coast Guard".
Battle Hymn of the Republic -- upper men have melody, lower men have
harmony from square 1 to square 5. (Except for last few measures,
where upper women take melody from upper men) Watch rhythms here!
Square 5 to square 7 -- men are in unison, with short notes, and DON'T
RUSH. Square 7 to square 8 -- no men have melody. Square 8 to square
11 -- women are singing the top line, leads are singing the 3rd line
(melody), baritones and tenors are singing the second line, and basses
are singing the bottom. I have no idea how we're going to do this in
tempo rubato being unable to see the conductor. Square 11 to square 12
-- upper men and women sing and octave apart, lower men and lower women
are singing an octave apart until the last couple of measure when 4
parts break out. Square 12 to square 13 -- audience sings along. No
men on melody. Square 13 to end -- sing AH, AH, AH, AH instead of Amen
Amen. "men" is a hard syllable to sing on a high note.
God Bless America -- Upper men have melody except for the first two
measure of circle B. Syncopation for "Mountains" but not "prairies".
Carry "foam" into "God" without a break; a double-dotted half note plus
an eighth note completely fills a measure. The first two measures of K
have been DELETED. Cross them out. I have breath marks marked in my
music; does anyone want to get that picky, or did you get where they
belong?
America, the Beautiful -- as an encore. Note that the arranger for
whatever reason changed the traditional words "may God thy gold refine"
to "God shed His grace on thee", and now it doesn't rhyme. Whatever.
Are we having fun yet?
