I would be willing to give it a try if I
can get some good Bass learning tapes for our repertoire. Could possibly do
lead on most songs. Some of the high notes are a strain.

package
It seems these days that it is rare that an established quartet can get together to sing for a special occasion.
If neither Greg nor Tom are available, that takes out all three
established quartets.
How about we create a prefabricated 20-25 minute
quartet package that would help us to meet our request load?
I could help out on tenor on such occasions if I
knew in advance what songs were in the package, and perhaps there are
other people in the chorus that could learn another part (tenor or
bari in particular) to those songs if they knew there would be an
occasion to sing.
Something along these lines with short
introductions or jokes sprinkled throughout:
Barbershop Style or Chordbuster March as an opener Let Me Call You Sweetheart (or something else the
over-50 crowd can sing along with) Hello Mary Lou Bye Bye Blues the mandatory ballad (Old St. Louie?) This Is My Country Doom-Ba (I'm Sitting on Top of the World)
If there's a repertoire person/committee, I'm sure
he/they can come up with the best possible list. Maybe the
emcee-oriented among us can suggest a source for good introductions or jokes?

Recalling how difficult it was for the lead section, I'd like to lobby
for a different arrangement of the first 8 measures of "New Orleans".
Assuming the lead section would sing the solo part, the other three
parts could sing the parts outlined in "nawlins1.GIF" at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/chordbusters/files/
For whatever reason, I put the title to that page in the vertical
center of the page instead of at the top. I hope that doesn't prove
unduly confusing. It probably had something to do with the
1980's-technology software I was using.

I liked this joke because of the way it built up to the punch line. Now
if I could just figure out a way to set it to music...
I've had some problems with my voice this week, and this junk seemed
to help:
http://www.clearvoicespray.com/
I bought a small bottle for around twelve bucks at The Music Suite on
Providence Road and used it liberally last night.
I've also been gargling with salt water and taking guaifenesin.
Before this, my miracle cure of choice was eating ice cream.
What else works?
I just found out the reason why I haven't been able to see the chorus
listings on that site: my web browser is set to refuse cookies.
Select Jefferson City, Boonville, Fulton or Moberly, and there we are.

According to http://www.mmea.net/ , there will be a lot of Missouri
musicians at the Lake of the Ozarks next week from Wednesday to
Saturday. Has the SPEBSQSA ever had a booth at Tan-Tar-A? I couldn't
find any information on the web about how to get one.

Also at that site is "One More Song" "Irish Blessing" "I Love You Truly" "You're as Welcome As the Flowers in May" and a warm-up I planned to lead. (Warm Up Corner-Unison to Harmony).
After talking to Jim Bagby it looks like he wants to do a warm up and we will be singing
The Old Songs Sweet and Lovely (if time permits) One More Song Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland and Hello, Mary Lou, Goodbye Heart.(if time permits)
If we get to any of the other songs in the packet we will be fortunate.
Hope this helps.

Actually, of course, this week will NOT be a regular rehearsal, but rather the annual installation dinner . . . same time, same place . . . if you haven't already, call Walter to find out what you should bring!

Confirm: the uniform for tonight includes the black shirts? I assumed
the location (Jack's) warranted the more formal uniforms. Oops on my part?
