I run an 800+ group myself and it's indeed a small extra to prevent
this spam from going through. i don't know who is the list owner
(cinder?) but i am willing to do the cleaning up. it will be an hours
work tops and the only change that will be enough is to approve new
members (and IF one slips through, delete him)

cinder, feel free to contact me and add me as moderator. it will
truly be no problem at all!
